I want to rate it better...but I can't
Our 2021 High Country offers an elevated level of refinement and comfort with the functionality large families have come to expect and depend on from Suburban. That combined with the new independent rear suspension and finally the grunt of a real truck w/ the available 6.2L made it a no brainer to replace our 2016 LTZ 5.3L. Unfortunately (and based on what I've been reading I'm not alone) the durability and dependability is just not there and it's not a few isolated customers. We purchased ours' in June in advance of two long road trips including a 6-week cross-country adventure. We put a quick 2300 miles on it with no issues before leaving Oregon for the east coast. In the next 8000 miles our Suburban fell victim to FOUR different issues, some major, and all requiring some form of repair. -Valve lifter malfunction / failure that is now becoming chronic issue on this iteration of the 6.2L. We caught ours' early but if left unchecked leads to bent / broken pushrods and potentially catastrophic engine failure (we met someone on our trip who actually had this happen). Outstanding dealership (Banks Autos) in NH replaced all 16 lifters and related parts under warranty though we were unfortunately without our brand new vehicle for 10 days and unable to continue our trip as planned. -Malfunctioning Adaptive Air Ride Suspension. This happened at the entry to the campground we had stayed at requiring us to disconnect our travel trailer and the Suburban battery to get the system to reset. Luckily, it did, but not ideal and completely unacceptable on a brand-new $90K vehicle! -Service Engine light came on outside of Casper, WY caused by a fried O2 sensor that had been incorrectly installed from the plant. Dealership back in Oregon performed a temporary repair to get the light to go away and enable the vehicle to function properly. Parts currently on order for final repair. -MASSIVE oil leak upon return to Oregon. Leak went undetected by sensors and warning system on the Suburban even though dipstick registered ZERO oil. Could have lead to serious internal engine damage had I not been standing in the driveway when my wife backed out of the yard and discovered the lake of oil under the vehicle. While I've not wanted to get acquainted with Chevrolet service departments from coast to coast the folks I've come in contact with in Concord, NH, Casper, WY, and Bend, OR have been nothing but outstanding. GM has also, without hesitation, stepped up by comp'ing us a GM Platinum Extended Service Contract (6 year / 100,000 miles). I'm not sure if that's a good thing or if they are merely hedging against additional inevitable mechanical issues in our future? Bottom line.... My enthusiasm for GM products got the best of me in ordering a first-year production vehicle. Chevrolet has certainly not worked out all the kinks in this design and I would caution any prospective buyer to pump the brakes on the purchase of even a 2022 model until performance and durability data are available.

Transmission and Fuel Power Control Module issues
Right after purchasing, there were various rattling noises in the cabin. Interior parts not held together properly, etc. Around 5000 miles, the transmission stated making a loud whining noise. The issue was a defect in one of the gears. It took the dealer over a month to fix. Around 28000 miles the Fuel Power Control Module shorted and the vehicle would not start. It had to be towed to the dealer. It took the dealer a month to receive a $65 replacement part. Now still under the 36000 miles, the vehicle makes all kinds of noises when turning. The tailgate makes a clonking noise when closing. Too much money for a vehicle with so many issues. Buy some other SUV, not this one.

Fantastic SUV
IF you are looking for a top-of-the-line interior, look to the Yukon Denali or Escalade. Aside from that, the suburban is one of the best vehicles I have ever owned. Huge interior, quiet, packed with features, 5-star crash rating, and great performance with the 6.2L. For everyone saying there is engine failure, they are on here as ambassadors of other brands trying to make this vehicle look bad. This is my 8th GM vehicle with cylinder deactivation and has no issues whatsoever.

Great highway cruiser
Terrific hauler, and with much more comfortable, car-like ride than previous models. High Country trim is terrific - mobile living room.
