What’s new
The standard 4.3-liter V6 gains 5 horsepower, increasing output to 155 hp at 4,000 rpm. Perhaps more significant is the introduction of the 4L60-E electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission that provides smooth, optimally coordinated gear changes.
On the safety front, the Sportvan now comes with four-wheel antilock brakes, replacing last year's rear-wheel only ABS.
Scotchgard is added to seats and door trim to provide stain protection. Solar-Ray window glass reduces the greenhouse effect that normally heats up the interior on a sunny day.
Speaking of keeping the greenhouse effect in check, the air conditioning system now uses R134a, the more environmentally friendly refrigerant that replaces the soon to be scarce, not so environmentally friendly R12. Also, some plastics are labeled for recycling purposes.

Could have been better

1991 Chevrolet Sportvan G20 Beauville 3dr Ext Van
The paint job began flaking off after only 4 years. Appears to be some sort of wax in the undercoating. GM repainted for free but with two years the paint began peeling again. Had problem with oil leak in cylinder after 46,000 miles. Replaced engine. Was told that engine barely passed emmisions. Habitual A/C refrigerant leakage. Heater takes forever.

The van is very dependable, very easy
and comfortable to drive. The only
negative is the gas mileage-about 12-14
mpg in the city.

'92 G20

1992 Chevrolet Sportvan G20 3dr Ext Van
I bought a '92 chevy G20 conversion van for courier duty. The van seems to have aged badly, but as it's still running at 165k miles, the quality is at least decent. The van drives better than I expected, considering I drive on bad country roads. The soft steering and soggy suspension give the impression of being in a boat, but it holds the road well. Normal driving gets about 14mpg, … with 16mpg (using 89 fuel, 87 gets about half a mile less per gallon) on the highway if I keep it at sixty. The power windows and reverse lights don't work, and the steering wheel lock jams and makes it difficult to remove the key. Overall, though, it runs well enough considering what I paid for it.
We have a limited number of reviews for the 1993 Chevrolet Sportvan, so we've included reviews for other years of the Sportvan since its last redesign.
