a keeper
Bought the truck new. compared to ford and dodge but chevy had more creature comforts for not just the driver but the passenger, go figure! Much quieter interiors than others. Pull a 20ft I/O boat and never complains. Regular maintenance and TLC makes for a great looking / running truck. only trouble was some cracked leather which was replaced, a window seal that was reglued, and now at 42,000 miles is a malfunctioning gas gauge and front drive seal yet to be fixed.
Best Truck
Love this truck,at 48,800 miles, it has been wonderful! Bought new, will keep until it wears out! Traded 1999 Ford F-150 4x4 for this and what an improvement! Just purchased first set of new tires.
Happy Z71 owner
This has been a very good truck so far. The power that the 5.3 liter V8 produces is impressive. The ride for a 4X4 truck is very impressive as well. I hope to have this truck for many years to come and will definitely be a return Chevrolet Silverado buyer!
Bad to the Bone
I have enjoyed this truck and plan on keeping it as a second vehicle when I decide to buy another. It rides a little rough, but has good off road performance and is tough.
dependabilty
the ultimate work and ride truck is chevy. It's vortec motor is good as it gets for a light duty truck. the horses are there when you need them, and tame when you dont.the extra door is great for my kids, tools dog whatever you need in the back. I've worked my truck hard rode back and forth too Texas and its still going strong. You want a truck you can depend on chevy's siveraldo is it. thanks James Holman truck owner
Really Happy
The only complaint I have is the sun visor. It's too short to block sun when you need to block the sun coming in the side windows in the front seat. Handles well in snow with snow tires and sand in the bed.
Youg Opinion
This truck is fun and comfortable. It has lots of buttons to play with, and lots of power to keep me happy.
Happy With My 100k Truck
No major problems at 101,xxx miles. Doesn't burn oil, but did develope the cold start tick at 24,000 mile. Switched to synthetic blend. Also I have a whistling sound coming from the tank area, but told if it turns out to be the fuel pump it would be replaced for free. this problem came while still under factory warranty, but it's still driving 75k miles later. Still using factory brakes, but will replace soon.
Love my 2000 Chevy
I have had very little problems with my truck. I use this truck for work and haul my bobcat around. I have hauled my boat over 1200 miles with one trip with this truck. No problems. The engine finally went out at 295,000 but I replaced with a Chevrolet engine that had 93,000 miles and I know it will run 200,000 more for me. I will own nothing else than a Chevrolet. They mean it when they say " built to last ".
my dream truck
This was my very first new truck purchase.I ordered it in dec. 2001and got it in mar.It was exactly what Iwanted and very sharp looking.Had one small problem, it liked oil;and lot's of it.Used 2 qts the first 1200 miles then 1 qt every 1000 miles. The dealership finally changed the pcv and that has stopped the consumption. Also had to have the rear springs replaced.
Best Truck I'v ever Driven
I'v been blessed to have had the experience of driving a multitude of vehicle with my civilian and military careers. This truck is the best all around vehicle that I've driven. The performance of the 5.3L engine is exceptional. Highly recomend, a great buy!!!
Not as good as my '92
I think this redesign has it's benefits, (ride, quiteness) but there's too much plastic and loose fitting interior parts. I have what seems to be common problems-- driveshaft yoke likes to bind on takeoff and makes a thumping noise, ABS brakes absolutely suck--if I have one tire loosing traction, it just hums and does not want to stop!!! I almost rear-ended someone because of a very small patch of ice!! Needs more sway control--maybe a rear sway bar-- too rocky in slow speed manuevers.
NOTHING LIKE A CHEVY!!
I love this truck! It is comfortable on the highway, but rough in the play. It may not have the big motors that most come out with now, but I wouldn't trade the 5.3 vortec that I do have, very reliable in all aspects. Now if they would only make every vehicle like a chevy the automotive industry would be at peace. These trucks look mild, but work the heck.
Me & my Chev truck
I bought this truck used with 111k miles. I haven't had one problem with it mechanically. The previous owner who bought it new said he never had any problems before me. This is my first Chev truck after owning 3 Ford 150's. I can honestly state even if not as "pretty" as the Ford it's reliability is excellent. Especially since I expected to spend money on a truck with 100+k. Regards,
2 years of ownership
Overall the truck is a very nice vehicle. Have had a few of the usual problems. The 4 WD switch, a slight knocking, the steering shaft rattling, and the slight driveline clunk. I have been in other makes and they all have there down sides. I regularly dive fords, and would never own one. I use the truck on the farm, for trips down south and soon to haul a couple of twin babies. wouldn't trade it for anything.
Nothing Compares
I purchased my 2000 Silverado new. It is my second truck (1998 1st one). I have 4 boys, with the oldest being 6'5" and another son is 6', 220 lbs. Neither of them could fit in the back seat of the 98, but my 2000 has enough leg room for both to be comfortable in the back. Rides as well or better than a car, and with the PSI rear end, I can go just about anywhere!! I have had minimal problems (ie power window quit) and highway mileage is around 18. I also pull horse trailer, and you don't even know its back there. When I get rid of this one, it will be replaced by another Silverado. Chevy has sold me for life!!
solid vehicle
I upgraded from an S-10 to a Silverado two and a half years ago, and I've been very satisfied. Ample power, smooth ride, plenty of room, and so far, no major problems. I am amazed by the engine's performance. I've caught myself several times going down the highway doing 80mph without realizing it. Thank God for cruise control! The truck offers great visibility with its hieght and great mirrors. With a load of mulch, this thing rides like a Cadillac!
Better than the RAM
I had a 1967 RAM 1500 LTD 4WD prior to the 2000 Silverado. The RAM had two breakdowns in the 2nd year. A fuel pump and battery. When I shopped the 2000 mofdel year the RAM could not be gotten with heated seats and electric seat adjustment on both front seats. The Chevy could. I find the Chevy to more "car" like in comfort and driving. Also the lrger engine is more peppy and seems to do better on mioleage. I find the Chevy to be put togrthrr better in the fine details. I'll take teh Chevy in 2004 also.
DRIVE IT
ALL I HAVE DONE IS CHANGE OIL AND DRIVE- TRIPS TO FLA ARE EASY AND THE TRUCK RIDES LIKE A CADDILAC.
Reliable, Do-it-all transportation
Bought this truck new 9 years ago, have put 98,000 miles on it and still running the original front brakes! Had to replace the rears at about 90k. It's a 4.8L and has had very few problems: ABS sensor quit around 39k, just after warranty expired, but dealer fixed it for a hundred bucks; fuel pressure regulator quit around 85k, and that cost me $300; had to replace the battery about a year and a half ago; and leaky rear sliding window was fixed under warranty. Still runs and drive just about like new. Does tick for about 30 seconds after cold start, and fuel gauge is erratic. Overall a quiet and solid truck. I haul dirt bikes occasionally and it rides better with a load.
What problems?
What a wonderful decision. This truck has been reliable and trouble free since day one. It's even been rolled onto its side! Plenty of power from the 4.8 V8, and it gets decent gas mileage, around 17MPG. No major problems, other than the power steering pump needing replacement at around 34,000 mi. Seats need replacing, the brake pedal is downright soft, material quality is questionable, the steering is heavy, and the AC has a WEAK air flow on full blast, though temp is cool. Rough ride, but that can be expected. Look carefully at this. Verdict: If it's reliable, then forget material quality, buy the car.
Built in problems
Would like everything, if everything worked well.
I love mine
I have the Red with silver, one coplaint is that everybody must of got that color as well. I love everything about mine except the sun visors, they are useless, unless you sit with the seat all the way forward. The 5.3 is a very snappy motor, it gets 18 mpg on the highway.
Wish I had anouther Truck
I own a 2000 Z71 and have had to many problems for such an expensive truck. When I start it up in the morning it knocks for the first minute or so. This started at 15000 miles. The dealer told me it was carbon build up and that there was no recomended repair at this time. What does that mean. Then the Emergency break went out after 32000 miles. The 4WD switch went out at 35000 miles and my A/c freezes up and wont blow any more. The lower lumbar broke and the dash rattles when I'm on the Highway.
My first New Chevrolet Truck
Performance is very good, I am a little concerned about the transmission and the Aluminum driveshaft. At 23000 miles I have had no problems with the vehicle other than a readjust of the idle once by the dealer. Mileage has been good with about 16 mpg city and 19 mpg highway with a 5.3l engine with a 4wd vehicle with an automatic transmission. I pretty happy with the truck.
2000 Silverado Z71
Awesome truck...solid, reliable, comfortable, solid off-road performance. Over 45K miles and running great. Parking can be a challenge, especially in cramped areas. Will definately buy another Chevy truck.
Questionable on the quality
I enjoyed the ride and comfort of my Silverado LT, but it seems to have a real problem in the electronics department. 4 wheel drive and fuel sensors have gone out twice ($750 fuel sensor replace). Not sure I would buy another.
Drive it until it dies
Bought new in '00 and other than the front wheel bearings and the crank sensor replaced I have not had any problems with it. 184k, repeat 184k, mostly HWY driving averaging 16 mpg in winter to 18 in warmer weather and not a drop of oil is used. I tow a 19ft runabout and there is plenty of power even later with the high mileage. Piston slap when cold starting is somewhat annoying, but service tech's have said that it is common and does not cause damage. This truck will be driven by me until it croaks and then I will more than likely replace the engine or whatever else needs to be done. Transmission flushed every 60k or so does wonders. Great truck. Every Ford owner wishes they were so lucky..
First Truck - I'd do it again
Very, very reliable vehicle. Driven in snow, on beach, through woods, on the farm, and it has never let me down. Did have to have the steering rack replaced ($400) and the driveshaft needs U-joints now. Same anoying piston slap everyone complains about, but the truck is solid and does everything I expect it to.
Great Truck
I purchased my truck with 9000 miles it now has 80000 miles. It has been a great truck, comfortable to drive, decent fuel mileage (16-17 mpg average) for a full sized truck. The only major problems with it are the rear differental & ring and pinion self destructing around 40000 miles and the sending unit for the fuel guage, just reset the trip odometer. I intend on keeping this truck untill it nickel and dimes me to death. Gets washed once a week, waxed once a month, oil changed every 3000-4000 miles. Looks and runs mint for a 8 yr old truck. Has the 4.8liter v8 automatic transmission and the locker rear end.
Good truck
Excellent in 4x4, like the push button as opposed to floor mount gear. Should come with spray in liner as option. Wish mine had air vents in back seat to force cold and hot air. Rear window defrost should be an option too. Love my truck.
silverado review
An excellent truck. No mechanical or finish flaws, has given excellent service. Often get 20+ mpg on the highway, overall mpg is 17.2 for 78000 miles.
Safety
This is the worst truck that I have owned to date. Bad vibration in the steering wheel. New tires or balance helps for a few hundred miles than it's back. Gas pedal sticks and is hard to drive in tight spaces. 80,000 miles on the truck. Most of the milage was on the interstate where it was not a problem after I reach 70 mph but between 62 and 70 you can't hold the wheel from shaking the whole truck. I have heard that this has been fixed in the newer trucks. I am thinking of trading for a Toyota.
CHEVY LEMON
BEEN IN THE SHOP 20 TIMES IN 3 YEARS, MOST RECENTLY TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP @ 54000. I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER GM PRODUCT.
Chevy 1500
I bought this Chevy 2000 in may or so and right away my tranny was shifting odd and seemed to have a slip got a flush and better now but not all there. The knocking is terrible when started when cold and needs to sit higher and needs more leaf springs in it can't haul hardly anything without sagging. Love the power and ride but bad gas mileage. Not trying to complain just saying how the truck is. Great power fun truck just dunno if its the one for me
Chevys are great
I had a 2000 silverado Z71 with many extras and some graphics. I put Wild Country TXR on it and this truck just looked awsome. It had a lot of power and it was very fun to drive.
Very Dependable
I bought this truck new in May of 01. I currently have 276,000 miles on it and it runs like a top. I get 17+ MPG. I regularly change oil/filter and fuel filter and keep tires rotated. I've only had to replace the fuel pump once (although the fuel gauge was bad for the last two years). I've put two sets of brakes, two alternators, two ujoints, one catalytic converter, two window motors. Overall, this truck has been great. Keep in mind: 276,000 miles and still counting. Recently gota a speeding ticket and officer wrote "08 Silverado" (That's how good it looks)
Hamm01
Very dependable and reliable Truck.
Honest
I have always liked the driving and handling.
Best US vehicle in 15 years
I have traded cars every 24 months since 1987 until the 2000 Silverado. I've driven it 48 months. I had differential bearing failure ($1400 - 50% GM regional repayment)at 45K miles and anti-Lok light in the winter until the system is warm. Michelin 265/70-16 SUV Terrain tires and top end Monroe shocks improved the ride to almost perfect. 16.8 C/H MPG average no better on the highway only (80+ MPH usually). Parking brake has little holding power. Replaced all 4 brakes at 80K miles and was advised that 50% material remained. Previous generations got only 30K miles, so I'm making up for the bearing failure in reduced brake service.
I've had 3 fords and this is my 3rd Chev
I have a rare Z71 with 5sp manual, 4.8 and manual transfer case. Very tight well built truck. Never been to the dealer yet after 2.5 years. Get 20+ MPG at 75mph. Plenty of power at 4800ft alt. Very roomy cab and the only bad thing I'll say is the firestone tires are not very good. I'd buy again! The last 2 fords were in the shop atleast 30 days the first year.
My Y2K truck after 37K miles
It has been 3 years now that I have owned my truck and it has held up very well. I have customized it and pumped a bit more power out of that 4.8L V8. It definately has some kick to it. Nothing has been wrong with it after 3 years and 37K miles. This is a great truck. I will keep it for a few more years.
I love MY truck!
I have had this truck for 5 years and it still drives like a dream. I have had installed new tire, new brakes (once) and replaced the fuel pump! Other thatn that regular oil changes and tune ups, keep "Big Blue" running. I highly recommend this truck to those looking for a new ride. Once you drive a truck, you'll never go back to a car. 113,000 miles and no more car payments later - I know I won't!
Great truck, reliable friend
I purchased this truck new, and have put 100,000 miles on it. Never stranded or stuck, no mechanical problems at all. Simple routine maintenance. Great hauler/tower. Survived head on mule deer accident, backed into tree, hit a rottweiler, and was in a garage destroyed by tornado. Nothing but a few scratches. Cons: Funny wear on front tires (inside wear), a/c sometimes weakens on long hot roadtrips, long wheel base decreases offroad ability due to long turning radius and high center potential, spartan cab comfort features on the base model.
Chevorlet's flawed fuel sending unit
At 37000 miles, 1000 over warranty, the fuel gauge malfunctioned on mine, and every one else's I know who bought between 1999-2002. At 70,000 my brakes wore out. At 160,000 my ABS light has came on and will proably remain on. At 110,000 dash lights started to burn out. But overall, she has been a very reliable ride. She's taken me from sea to shining sea many times, and I dread the day I have to turn her out to pasture. The 325 engine has run very, very well and she'll still getting second gear rubber. What a great engine! 165,000 miles and still no oil burning.
love it, but could be better
Great utility pick up in a 2WD. Plenty of get up and go when you need it, even with the 4800 vs the 5300 v8 engine. Tons of room in the extended cab carries my two kids in car seats with plenty of room to spare. Great comfortable large front power seats cater to even the most picky passenger. Great truck all around.
My 2000 Silverado
My first pickup. Love it! Plenty of room in the extended cab for kids. My wife and I have sat in there while the adult kids had the front. A bit cramped but not uncomfortable and a fun change for us. Only one problem. In the year and a half I have owned it. All brake rotors were warped. Dealer replaced them at no charge. Once you've had a truck you'll never go back!
sad to see it go.
first of all, it's a truck, and I dont want to get rid of it but I must---love it to death and back and it will make someone else happy too----seriously great.
