Malibu over others in segment

I had an Accord, son had an Altima, son in law had a Camry. Wife and I know the segment well. After lots of comparing, ended up going with the Malibu as the most car for the money without any compromises. First tank of gas (highway) yielded 36mpg, as have subsequent fill ups. Stop/Start has engaged a few times, almost didn't notice. Ride and cabin noise are on a par or slightly better than others in segment. Chevy My Link system works well with voice commands, bluetooth, and USB thumb drive music. Homelink mated up easily with garage door at home. So far everything works as advertised and we are very satisfied with our purchase.

Came from a 2003 PT Cruiser. I just bought my 2014 Silver LT Malibu 3weeks & I love everything about it except for the start-stop engine and one small thing the base of the seat, besides those 2 small issues the car rides very smooth quite to outside noises. I have three children, so its just enough room for them in the back w/ a car seat & enough space for my 6'1 husband in the front. I love the glow light in the front interior which lights up @ night. This Malibu looks so much better than the older ones', the space, the drive, the look exterior & out. I was going 90mph & didn't realize it, that's how smooth & comfortable the ride is. Glad to be part of the Chevy fam.

I am in love with this Malibu. It is a great car... interior is much better than Toyota, Honda, Ford or Mazda. Great gas mileage. Comfy smooth ride.

Gets great gas mileage and has some pop with the turbo engine. Haven't had the vehicle for too long, but I've already driven it about 6,000 miles. I'm a mostly highway driver and can get anywhere from 32 to 35 mpg. It rides smooth and quiet and is pretty fun to drive.

I have had this car as a company fleet car for about two years and will soon turn it in at 65k miles. I had the 2012 Malibu before it and the 2012 was a dog. In this car they improved and fixed literally everything I hated about the previous model. I also have had nearly unending bad luck with American cars going back to a '78 Chevy Citation with the roof liner falling in. So, for about 25 years I have not owned an American car. However, I get American cars for fleet vehicles and most I might give a modest recommendation to but never glowing. Well, this car has been great. It is not a sport sedan but a super solid daily driver. The layout is great. For me, the comfort is superb. The electronics are fairly simple, far simpler than my Mercedes and Mini. Sometimes my back bothers me and it actually feels good, almost therapeutic to sit in this car as it is easy to adjust. I have had zero defects or repairs or faults at almost 62,k miles. The brakes are still original. The mileage is good but not as good as listed. I do a lot of heavy duty urban driving and it gets mid 20's to low 30's and that is great. My favorite things would be 1. Comfort. 2. A really nice quick pedal with no lag. 3. Reliability. 4. Simplicity. The space is also great as I fill up the entire vehicle including back seat, especially in ski and convention season. I put snow tires on in winter and traction is fine. Even the USB, charging ports and drink holders are a nice layout for me. I can honestly highly recommend this car to you as a used car presuming decent care. I would bet with good care this car will do many miles pretty trouble free. If I were in the market for this kind of car for myself I'd look for a nice low mileage car, perhaps corporate (not rental) fleet and expect many good miles and years of driving. To my surprise, I have no negatives. I think this car is a terrific value at it's price points. It is a roomy people and luggage/cargo mover and does everything just right; comfort, power, responsiveness and layout. If you are thinking of one, I'd just spend time on colors and the options you like and go for it. As I said in my title, I am NOT an American car fan, yet this has been a great car from my least favorite manufacturer (GM). I give it a solid recommendation based on a whole lot of driving under every single condition you can name and it has never let me down or disappointed. Good job, GM and good luck if you decide to get one.

2014 malibu ltz 2.5L nice vehicle

I took delivery in early December and now have about 3000 mi. Car has all options except turbo and nav. Did not desire either. Prefer using reg gas and better economy. Prefer using identical Garmins in all the family vehicles. The techno safety features (blind spot, lane alert, cross traffic, collision alert, etc) are reason for buying car and they work great. I wish it had rain sense wipers, active cruise, locking gas cap, and rear heat ducts. Very quiet and smooth. Not a performance car for handling or power. I am a little disappointed with 30 mpg highway and 24 mpg city so far. Hoping it improves after break in. update 1/20/2017 really like the car. fuel economy still disappointing because never saw 36 mpg. the 2.5L non-turbo at 195 hp was good choice with adequate power. only service issue is recent replacement of shift lever assembly (really a lever with an assortment of switches attached). Should be a TSB because display indicates a "shift to park" error. I had the 72K extended warranty so it was covered. Original tires are getting noisy. Love the fact it has spare tire. I have used it. 2017 Malibu (and many others) may not have spare! still wish Chevy allowed to have rainsense wipers! update 7/182017 now 62000 miles New tires reduced road noise. Chevrolet dealer much cheaper than local tire store for tires. It may have a very slight engine roughness at idle speed occasionally. Will have it checked at next oil change. Everything about the same. Update 07/25/2018. Now 75K miles. Had to replace right rear wheel bearing assembly recently due to noise. Based on Malibu website I think this is common problem and I can look forward to replacing the others in the next 50K miles. I still like the Malibu but wish now for new features like adaptive cruise control. update 12/21/2019. This update at 100000 mi. Car still runs like new. Nothing has gone wrong since report at 75000 mi. I finally saw a legit 36 mpg on an interstate trip in October. Probably need third set of tires soon. Original brake pads still look good. Both original batteries still functional. I wish I could expect this type reliability on any future car. update 6/27/2020 about 107000 mi. The big front battery finally had to be replaced. I do not know what more I could ask of a car. Tires will needed before winter. My wife got a loaded '20 Volvo XC40 this spring. I really like the way Bluetooth works on the Malibu better. Volvo does not have instant reply pre-recorded messages. The Volvo does not have the auto-locking feature. The Volvo does not allow remote start from the key fob. The Volvo does have lots of newer advanced safety and driving assistance features! 12.28.2021 115000 mi. This is real minor. One of the sensors on the blind spot detection has failed per startup message. Blind spot still works on both sides because it has redundant sensors. 12.30.2022 120000 mi. Found out the blind spot problem was result of rear end body shop work. not GM's fault. Finally replaced rear "motorcycle" battery so auto-stop function would work more consistently. Had to replace HID headlamp bulb on driver side. PIA because access is so cramped but I did not remove the entire front bumper! Great car! I do not want another SUV! I want a low roof line sedan! Is GM listening? 127000 miles july 2024 Malibu still runs great. Everthing still works. No mechanical work needed since last update. I noted that CR listed 2014 as bad model year. Must have been different drive train issues.

Pro: Great Car, CON: Pushy People At OnStar. GM is very aggressive about putting nice features in their cars that you have to pay for with monthly subscriptions like On-Star and the new WiFi in the car. A Garmin NUVI that cost be $150 does a far better job at navigating than the OnStar service you have to call in and get your destination address understood. I want to see it on a map display. The WiFi in the car is expensive and unnecessary too, my Apple iPhone will make a hotspot if I need one. Just try to refuse or cancel either, OnStar will beat you up and make you feel stupid. Dealing with Comcast is more pleasant.

Awesome car I love the way it drives and rides. Excellent braking. great fuel mileage. Very quite inside it is unbelievable how quiet it is. I've put almost 1000 miles on it since I've bought and it was a very comfortable ride and I am 6'2". I would strongly recommend this vehicle!! The only thing different is I would upgrade to the LT package..... I have the LS.

bought my Malibu new at jim glover Chevrolet, tulsa, ok in may of 2014, now has 110,000 miles. .. zero problems, original tires lasted 71000 miles, excellent power from the 2.5 four cylinder, personally I don't think a $21000 car could be any better inspite of very biased consumer reports, and various car magazines obvious bias because they happen to not like GM,,

I ordered my 2014 Malibu with all of the options and received it within a month (7 months ago). It now has 18K miles and has been averaging 24 City and 32 Highway which is much better than the cars estimates of 21 City and 30 Highway. It has only been in the shop for regular maintenance so far. This is my first Chevrolet, but one of the many GM vehicles I have owned. The interior is exceptionally quiet (not library silent like Buick), functional, and comfortable. I have taken it down to Texas from Indiana and it is a great trip vehicle! The ride and handling are far more superior than the Fusion, Accord, and Sonata. I work for General Motors as an associate engineer, but am not biased

i enjoy the zippy buzzy 2.5 4-cylinder, it pretty sufficient of moving the car swiftly. very nice ride for what it is, but can be floaty and too bouncy, while road noise is well controlled, rear seat space is smaller than i'd like but its not that big of a car. the biggest complain is the rear seats though. they are very hard and literally hurt me and my passengers, but no complaints with the front ones, they're rather comfy. the dash and leather are nice soft materials, but some dash parts seem just glued on and put on in a rush almost. the media system is also rather hard to comprehend and can be very confusing at first but becomes easier over time; also the stereo is pretty lack luster.

I rented this car for 1 week while my car was in the shop and hated it the first couple of days. Maybe it was too modern for me. But after a few days the malibu really grew on me. It's not very fast but by far the most comfortable and quiet car I've ever been in. Got use to the engine shutting off when you press the breaks. My car ended up dying so I went ahead and bought a '15 accord.the accord is so loud and bumpy and the seat cushions are soft and uncomfortable with cheap materials. Can't wait to get rid of the honda and get me a chevy instead!!!!

We took delivery of our 2014 Malibu 1LT in early January. It came equipped with the driver convenience package which gives me a lot of extra features such as 8 way power seat, rear vision camera, remote vehicle start, ect. Handling and ride are excellent. Road noise is almost nonexistant. The engine is quite perky for a 4 cylinder, which was a pleasant surprise. Although I was very concerned about the stop/start feature, it has performed flawlessly. It stops and starts so quickly and smoothly, I hardly notice it. It has loads of storage space and convenience features.. It is a very fun car to drive, and we are very pleased with our purchase.

This car has been nothing short of perfect. Can't offer enough praise. Currently 91,000 miles. Zero issues. Regular maintenance schedule all that was required. (I do change oil more than necessary. I don't baby my car.) Highway and local gas mileage has exceeded EPA significantly. Technology and climate system seamless, easy and effective. This car was top rated mid size sedan in 2014. This car will stop from 70 mph in 155 feet. Light years ahead of competition. It'll get to 60mph in 6.0 seconds flat as well. Did I mention I am currently using my ORIGINAL brakes? Stunning. Original tires went 58,000 miles. Zero squeeks. Zero Rattles. Paint beautiful. Would like a more powerful stereo, but my ears not what they used to be. I hate to give this one up, but might get a 2019. I have no idea why, but people prefer suv's so the 2019 on sale. Lucky me

6 years old now. Only problem: The trunk Lid flies open while driving. One time I found the trunk open in the parking lot. Have had the part replaced but it happened again since. This is a factory default but GM takes it too lightly even though it rarely happens. I dare not load with valuables or groceries etc. otherwise I still love this Malibu. Have not had a small car for 13 years. Used to drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Have had it for 1 month and use it to tool around town. No long trips yet. The Stop/Rest works occasionally. Seats could be softer but the foam is dense so that's good. Blowers come on rather slowly. Fav Pages on Radio do not go back but must go thru 6 pages to go back to Pg 1. I feel it is shifting rough but may just not be used to the constant shifting. Support from GM and local Dealership is excellent. They are trying hard to please. Every time I return from a drive I tell my husband, "I love the Malibu." It handles great. Learning all the fun stuff, Sirius, AllStar etc. No plain Jane this time. Still love this Malibu. Every thing still working perfectly. Mileage would be better if my driving habits were better.

My company allowed me to order a new company car about 7 weeks ago. I ordered a Malibu 2LT black/black over both the Fusion Hybrid and Camry Hybrid. It took five weeks to the day to get. I travel frequently and have rented all of them, but liked the way the Malibu drove the best. After a week and 1200 miles, I'm still glad I chose it. Plenty of power (2.5), handles decent (I guess it's received some suspension, steering and engine upgrades since the 2013). More than enough room for what a I need.

I believe the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu LTZ is a great car for the price. The features are what you expect to find on a car costing twice what I paid. Shortly after my purchase I took the car on a "shakedown cruise" to Laughlin, Nevada, about a 300 mile drive each way from my home. The car performed flawlessly and I got just short of 30 mpg for the round trip, including a 20 mile drive in stop and go traffic on the return trip.

The front windshield rear view mirror section is too big and is in the way of a complete view. What really bugs me is the accent trim on the steering wheel. If the sun is coming in the driver side window it glints of the trim just right and is blinding!!! I have to put my hand just righ to block the sun. Add on - I hate the windows that do what they want, all the way up or all the way down. When I press the window button I just want it to do what I want period. Not all the way down and then have to adjust it up to where I want it. Oh that would be nice but when you go up it goes all the way up unless you think to stop it somewhere. Pisses me off...

This is a very average midsized car. The auto stop/start system in this car has a few consequences that are worth informing future buyers about. There is no on/off button for the auto stop feature. The reason I am commenting on this annoyance is because the auto start/stop is way more noticeable then what the manufacturer says. It is very noticeable, the car almost feels like it stalls and then lunges every time the engine shuts off then restarts. Also, when the engine shuts off at a stop, the air conditioning gets very warm and the fan speed reduces dramatically. With summer temperatures in the 90's right now, it gets very warm in the car when the engine shuts off.

Car has now done 100,000 km and has never missed a beat, still runs like a new vehicle. Fuel mileage indicated is 7.3 liters per 100 km, however I have never measured this on a per fill up basis. In many ways this is the best car I have owned in terms of comfort and reliability.

Never thought I would enjoy a small car after driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee V6 but I love it. I am still getting used to the shifting. We bought it mid January. Everything else is higher than me on the road but even in the Jeep there were many taller than me. It has a Driver Leather Power seat. Good rear vision along with the backup camera. Seems peppy enough but have yet to tromp on it to avoid accident. Interior is beautiful and blue lighting adds ambiance. Touch controls are easy and Screen easy to read. So many new features and I love them all. Steering is tight and responsive. For Auto/Stop everyhing has to be running in optium perfection. Warm engine, A/C and fans not too high.

Pricey for the options but has the best looking interior of similar in its class. Same with the exterior looks are great. The touch screen is not as responsive after a couple of years and the software makes you dig deep into menus to change things you need all the time, like hooking up a phone for bluetooth. My kids hate driving it because the visibility is so poor and the steering is hard to turn compared to other cars.

I bought this car used hoping it would be a good long lasting car. The gas mileage is the only positive thing I can say about this car. The sheet metal is very poor. 2 dents appeared on the top of it after my son was leaning over it from the side { note: talking on a cell phone leaning against a car should not dent it}. If you like a straight bodied car, DON'T put any pressure at all on any part of this car. You've been warned!! The driver side door beauty cover at the top of the door is already loose, and the front bumper fascia is way out of line with the other side. Getting the seat right for daily driving is also is a chore, and I recommend it not be moved once you find your happy spot, it also sits very low to the ground if you have any knee troubles, and you will need the backup camera to see behind you to help with this as well. I'm 6 foot and it's a hassle for me to see behind. The transmission doesn't know which gear it wants to get it sometimes, and the start - stop thing is a total waste of money. There is no interior trunk release button, which is more annoyance than anything. I'm a Chevy guy and it pains me to thrash on this car. I own a 99 Toyota Camry, and the fit and finish is better by far, and it's got over 220 k miles. If your looking for a long lasting car, get something else.

A decent mid-size sedan

I had leased this back in 2013, and I have the LT1 trim level. So far it is a solid ride, as I commute to the next city on a weekly basis. It rides smoothly and the transmission is very smooth. I wanted a sun roof, but it was going to cost extra so went with remote start instead and it was a good trade off for the Ohio winters and gets through the snow easily. It has a very sharp exterior design but I noted that the rear door trim is coming apart, and the paint scratches very easily.Interior wise, things are laid out nicely and I love OnStar and MyLink but the chrome interior is annoying.

Great car,I’m just breaking 100,000 miles.Engine light is on because of my trunk battery not sure why it might be time for a new battery. It still rides smooth and it’s great on gas.

Feeling of luxury

I've had a 2014 Chevy Malibu LT for six years and LOVE it. It feels high end and luxurious on the inside, drives smooth, and has a large trunk for a sedan. We're looking to trade it in only because we now have two children and need more space for all their stuff when we travel. The drivers seat material has started to crack recently (within the last year). Cons: can't turn off the auto stop feature, sometimes the whole car will restart when autostop shuts off (radio restarts etc), car will leave autostop when I don't move at all, I haven't found an easy way to pop the trunk when key is in the ignition, and there's no button for the trunk on the interior of the car. I keep saying I will miss my car so much when I trade it in and I know I will!

getting 27/30 mpg every fill up helps the wallet, though cold shifts in tranny can be wonky if it wonders between shifts, causing car to jerk or lunge between down shifts, not always, but can be annoying in highway traffic, that said car does ride very nice and has plenty of power , overall nice GM experience

Worst cars ever

This is by far the worst car I’ve ever owned. After 70,000 miles it went from bad to worse. New fuel pump. New alternator timing belts went to crap. Oh and to top it all off my transmission crapped out on me after 107000 miles. My advice? Steer clear of this car and all new chevys fords and anything that’s American. Go with Honda and Toyota or Kia much much better and easy to service hardly any problems. My two cents. Take it as you want

No Feul Economy

The car consumes a lot and I have complained about it to GM several times but it was not useful. Although I drive most of the times on highways with a lot of care not to consume a lot the MPG is all the time around 25 which is a catastrophe. The quality and every this looks fine except the fuel economy. I also do not feel comfortable and safe drive on snowy weather and several times I was going to slid out of the road although I was driving with 30 miles per hour speed. The car also lacks a lot compared with its competing models' even the basic models. Overall I believe the Chevy has done a perfect job with a lot of parts of the car, but I guess these issues pushes the car down the ranking chart.

The Car That Made Me Say Never Again to Chevy

I will never buy a Chevy again, and my 2014 Malibu is the reason why. The engineering is downright faulty: Auto Stop: You can’t disable it, which is frustrating enough, but now I’m dealing with a dangerous issue where the car sometimes won’t restart after auto stop engages—no service lights, and even mechanics can’t figure it out. Not restarting at busy intersections is a major safety hazard and should have been recalled. Bluetooth: It connects to my phone for calls but not for media, which is incredibly outdated for a 2014 model. Sensors: Sensors constantly go bad—wheel hub sensor, tire pressure sensors—you name it. They’ve been a headache and are expensive to repair. Maintenance Costs: Keeping this car running has been far more costly than it should be. I hate this car and regret ever buying it. Chevy has lost me as a customer for life. If you’re considering a Malibu, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere—this one’s junk.
