Used 2004 Chevrolet Malibu Consumer Reviews
This time Chevrolet has set the standard
I spent several months researching and test driving midsize sedans, and found this car to be the best. It ran smoother than the Accord and quieter than the Camry. The suspension and handling are comparable to the other cars in its class, and the standard features on the LT model make it a joy to drive. Many added safety features from last year's model also set this car apart from the rest. If you're looking for a well-built, dependable, and economic midsize sedan, it would be VERY worth your while to check this one out!
stallouts
Purchase vehicle with 49 miles on it and at 124 miles i experience a total lost of electrical power. the car was return to dealer not only ones but twice for a total 13 days of shop repairs in 33 days of ownership. This problem continued and the car is parked and in arbitration with 710 miles on it.
6 Year Review
I recorded my review in 11/24/2003 when I owned the car for 1 month. In the last 6 years I have put only 32,000 miles on. I have read the other reviews and am drawn to the poor ratings. With the exception of the steering column (first year of electric power), I have had no major problems with the car. I just replaced the original tires at 30,000 miles, had an alignment done, and it runs like it is new again. I agree with other posts that it tends to eat an unusual amount of turn signal lights, which is a minor annoyance because it takes time to replace them. Otherwise, I am still impressed with the quiet ride, the power, and the highway gas mileage (34-35 mpg with the cruise set at 75+).
Great Car that saves Money!
I am proud that my car continues to run beyond 120,000 miles with no critical repairs necessary. It consistently gets 32 MPG and saves money compared to most domestic sedans. The interior features are practical and easy to use. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone!
Magnificant Chevy
By far, my 2004 malibu is the best car I have ever owned. This is after several GM, Ford, and Honda products. At 13,000 miles, nothing is wrong, and it gets more than 30 miles per gallon on the highway.
Love my Malibu!
I have had my Malibu for a full month now and am loving every second of it. I have never owned a Chevy prior to this purchase and am really glad I bought this one. What a beauty of a car, inside and out. I've received many compliments about the looks of it and I feel very safe driving it too.
Chevvy hits the Bullseye
I cannot find fault with this vehicle,it exceeds any car I previously owned in all respects. It is great in build quality, comfort, performance, economy and value for money. No previous Chevrolet has approached its quality. I heartily recommend it and best of all it is American!
US Altima
Had the dealer prep me a new Impala LS and saw this car in the showroom, drove it and fell in love...same power lotzzza features all standard on the LT. Just love this car.
GM offers value and reliability
I am very pleased with the Malibu. It is quiet with a solid feel on the road. Handles rough pavement well and the seat are very adjustable, especially with the telescoping steering wheel. The engine is smooth and has plenty of power. The steering is a little too light for my taste, but my wife likes it fine. Only complaint is the tires are not up to the standards of the rest of the car. The handling is just adequate and I suppect the 15" Bridgstones don't have the grip I'm used to.
Disappointed in PA
Purchased what I thought was going to be my dream car. Loved the interior and it handled wonderfully. 5 days after purchased the car started with a fuel issue. Once I fill it with gas it stalls, chokes, and will not restart for numerous minutes. Once it lunged forward and then stalled out in rush hour traffic. Had the fuel sensor replaced, luckily by the dealership, however 3 months later I am still having this ongoing problem and the dealership says it's my problem. Another issue is the car does not start on the first turn. This has been occurring more and more. Just waiting for the Malibu to leave me sitting. Chevy aware however not standing behind their good name.
'04 Malibu broke GM's mold!
General Motors broke the mold when they built the completely redesigned Chevy Malibu for '04. The new Malibu's sporty and aerodynamic with a fresh look and classy feel. It's got an aggressive accelerator that unleashes the excitement of a 3.5 liter V6 with 200 horses but gets a shocking 350 mls to a tank on city streets and 400+ on th highway. The on-board information center is reassuring and the standard features make this car almost perfect.
Brand new, Malibu
I've had the car for a month and have enjoyed driving it each and every day. It rides nicely and is VERY quiet. The electric assisted power steering is very smooth. I feel relaxed and comfortable while driving. All-in-all, this a great car for the money. I really feel that Chevy got this one right.
Suggest you try a Malibu
My chevy maliby is fun and easy to drive and has a lot of conveniences like adjustible steering, pedals and seat. Excellent gas mileage. I like it very much, although I've only had it for two months. My only wish is more confortable seating. Plusher seats.
Great Ride! Finally a contender
A great american sedan with European handling. Take a way the badges on this car and you may mistake it for an import. the fit and finish is near flawless. THe engine is silky smooth and the car drives like a dream. This has to be the best sedan overall chevrolet ever made.
A Winner!
I changed from a Catera Sport to the Malibu to get better access to the rear seat, compared to the new CTS design. I am pleasantly surprised at the satisfaction and performance of the Malibu, and would suggest other geezers look at this vehicle as an alternative to a Caddy for going to the supermarket...love the many new engineering features (e.g. electric steering.)
Has a little of everything
I test drove seven cars in one day and ended up with my Malibu. It had a little of everything that I liked about the Camery, Honda Accord, and Mazda 6. Four door, sunroof, style (looks like a richmans car) pick up and speed, spacious inside, tinted rearview mirror, no large blind spots and heated seats! It handles great. I like that I can start it from my front door and have it warmed up before I even open the car door. Trunk is large and I like that I can still carry long items by letting down the back seat. Radio controls are on the wheel which is handy. I haven't bought or looked for a new car in ten years and I am so pleased with the Malibu.
THE PERFECT CAR
This car is amazing, don't dis it till you try it.. It rides like a dream.. Oh I can't wait to get up and drive it everyday!
Only 500 miles, but WOW
So far I don't know what they could have done to improve on it. Move over Honda & Toyota...here comes Malibu
No complaints
=)
I love it!!!
I love my Car! It's so comfortable and stylish. My family (3kids) and hubby can sit very comfortably. It's spacious!I love going on my little errands for the family:)I always wanted a Bonneville for years, until I saw the Malibu.I have not regretted purchasing this car. I know that I am going to love it for a long time.......
Handles well in accident
I loved my car. I owned it for 4 days before I got into an accident. It handled very well in the accident and onstar called right away. This is truly a beautiful car. I also considered a Mazada6 but I felt the Malibu felt more sturdy. I hope it will be the same when I get it back.
whoa
The 2004 malibu is incredible, i owned a 2001 and traded it in, the most amazing piece of machinery i ever seen, the power of the V6 really kicks and you can seriously feel the 200 HP in the engine, i admit the price to pay for the car was high, but the room, look and color interior really styles a malibu, not to mention the amazing 23 mpg i acheive only in street driving. its not 100% economy, but i recommand this car to anyone who seeks sport with refinement.
love my new Chevy
I have the car just over 24 hour and I am having such a good time with it. I've recently owned Saab 9-5. Volvo 850 and we currently have a Jag X-type. The Malibu holds its own very well against these cars. The fit and finish is very good.
Best Chevrolet in Years
I have had the new Malibu for a little over a month now and could not be more pleased. This car is the best that Chevrolet has offered since the rear wheel drive Impala SS. I bought the car for my wife, but I find myself driving the car a lot more than I thought I would. Import/European style, qualty and safety not previously available from Chevrolet.
Best Ever
This is my best new car ever. It looks great, handles great, lots of power. Other people love the looks of it.the only change I would make-leather interior on the next one.
great redesign
it is fun to drive, handells very well especially in the turns. Great move to put the body on the Saab chasey. Great bang for the buck especially comparing it to a camry.
Saab for Chevrolet price
This car which I understand is based on the Saab 9-3 really drives like a Saab. Be sure to get 3.5 L V6. Mileage is unreal, high that is around 35 plus on real X-Way driving.
Good family 4-door sedan
The new 2004 'Bu has excellent steering (electronic assist), lots of room, convenient dash instrumentation, and the remote start feature kicks &ss! It isn't a "flashy" car, but I'm sure some aftermarket products can spice it up, if that's your thing. I recently sold a '02 Honda Accord and can say that I prefer the handling of the Malibu. However, Honda has a lot more interior style. The ONLY knock I have on the '04 Malibu is luxury. There is limited luxury. But for me, a family sedan is what I needed, and wanted. Great work - take one for a spin!
very good car
during 100,000miles, it has not major problems. Key is not any leaking from this car, no over heat.
2004 Malibu LS
This is really a remarkable car. I'm upgrading from a 1996 Camaro LS, and although this car isn't as tightly wound as the Camaro, it's remarkably fun to drive. Mechanically, the car has terrific acceleration performance, smooth shifter on the automatic. Even though it's a taller car, it doesn't sway as much as I was fearing it would, so it corners well and tracks well around turns. Design-wise, there are some mysterious interior things, leading me to give it a 9 out of 10 there, but it's beautiful on the outside. Perfect car in every way - I was comparing it to the Altima and Passat, and it simply blows them out of the water.
'04 Malibu - power steering problem
I liked the look of the redesigned Malibu. The interior is roomy and comfortable and the car came very, very nicely equipped compared to comparable import models. However, with only a little over 1500 miles on the vehicle, I encountered a problem with the power steering and the car is now sitting at the dealer awaiting repairs and the required parts on backorder.
excellent vehicle
excellent vehicle has plenty of power stay on the road in turns and is built in the untied states by the uaw
04 Malibu makes driving fun again!
I love my new 04 Malibu. It really makes driving fun again. I get a lot of compliments and looks from everyone everywhere I go. They are all surprised that it's a Malibu, because it looks like a more expensive car. Beautiful car for the price. No need to by a $30,000. plus vehicle when Malibu has everything for less, including looks.
Great Value
We have had our LT for about six months. It is a pleasure to drive and for the money is tough to beat. It is quiet, responsive, and easy to drive. We had over $8,000 in rebates from our GM card, Olds loyalty, GM loyalty, and Driver's Edge card. The LT comes with remote start, leather, spoiler, heated seats, information center, 16" tires and side air bags. All we added was the sun roof. No problems. We considered the Grand Prix but my wife felt the visability was better in the Malibu.
Malibu 2004
The car is a lot of fun to drive. It feels like a more expensive car and handles the road extremly well for this rpice range. The features really enhance the fun in the driving. the car is extremely quiet on the road and has a great tiught well built feel to it.
Great value! Great ride
I'm a Chevy fan now. This car is affordable yet it has the power to move when you need to and rides just as good as a Caddy. I would recommend getting the LT package. The upgade to leather seats with sunroof and other LT add-ons comes cheap and gives you alot of bang for the buck I have driven this car to work on terrible roads under slushy and wet conditions. The traction control along with the hadeling made the car an easy ride. I barely feel the pothole patch work road I cover everyday Chevy Pulled out all the stops on this car. This car gives safety features that most others don't even offer also. Congrates Chevy on a job well done.
My new Malibu
I use this car for "around town." It has a hugh trunk space that fits 4 sets of golf clubs and assorted gear with room to spare.I have a bigger car but I feel just as safe in the Malibu.Pick up and speed is geat especially with the V6. The car magazines mention the "plastic' interior but I see no differencce in the plastic dash on my friend's Toyota.I have the LS that has all the comforts and extras found in the more expensive cars.I have put 2200 miles on it so far with no problems.
first domestic in 15 years
Test drove the Malibu several times and came away more impressed each time. Solid ride with absolutely no rattles or sqeeks. Impressive list of extras. More pick-up than the Mazda Millinia it replaced with great millage, 23/32. Very good handler with room inside. Only complaint is the headrest is tilted slightly more forward than I was used too. Got used to it very quickly.
Just got my "BU" Love it
Like my new Malibu.
Oh My God!
is it really 200 horses..seems like more. My uncle has a camry and it seems the mali has better handling. My neighbor has his BMW just to show off to the other neighbors. The day i pulled into the garage with my malibu I swear i saw his head turn when we was washing his car and he thought it was a volvo i think he got bitter when i showed him the remote start at a car that is $21,000. The speakers are good too. enough said.
Definitely a Contender
I'm not going to say that this car is the best car in the world. But I will go so far as to say that it is one of the best cars on the American market. It is fun to drive, has a great power plant and the ride and comfort are excetional. Fuel economy is also pretty good, although I have yet to see the actual EPA numbers on the expressway and the on-board computer's fuel economy estimates are usually a little exaggerated. I would unhesitatingly reccomend Malibu to anyone seeking a mid-size sedan. I am only driving one car, and I'm sure some disgruntled people have gotten some worse than I, but I still think it is as good as anything out there.
I love my Malibu
I love my Malibu,it rides great. It is easy to get around in.Gas mileage is waonderful compared to the van I had before.
Happy go lucky
I love this car. I cannot believe that people still blindly flock to CVamry and Accord. This car is no Corvette or BMW. But it is a dream to drive. Although the styling is cute, I would like to see the new malibu to get a classier and sportier look.
The New Chevy is Here!!!
The new Malibu has great handling, style and comfort features. I love the auto start and heated seats. The car I purchase did have a problem with the side view electric mirrors, but the dealership took care of it without difficulty.
I never was a Chevy man until....
At 6'7'' I don't have the luxury of being picky about which cars I can drive. Many auto makers both foreign and domestic seem to have forgotten the "large" market of car buyers. With a telescopic steering column and six- way power seat option I found no problems on entry and exit as well as driving comfort. When I found this car and sat in it and I thought "this is great room but how does it perform?" I was pleasantly suprised at the acceleration in this vehicle, very peppy in the 0-60 range under 8 seconds. All of that with an average fuel economy of 28mpg city/hwy, this is one of the most value minded car choices in America!
Good Value for the Cost
We (my wife and I) looked at about 15 different vehicles before deciding on the 2004 Malibu. The main reasons that we chose the Malibu over the Accord or the Camry was cost and the self starter, plus the XM radio was a nice addition. We have owned the car for 2 months and so far we are very happy with our purchase - meaning that the car has handled well in the ice and snow that Columbus has been having this year. We are looking forward to the warmer weather and being able to use the sun roof! Also, kudos and applause for building a window washer container that holds the whole bottle, no leftovers with the Malibu!!!!
Great Car
Had the car for 6 months and 10,000 miles. Can't find anything to complain about yet. Comfortable and fun to drive, great pick-up, and fuel economy better then I expected. 25 mpg around town and 30-31 mpg during commute.
Built to last
Wait for the 2006. It will be a blast. The 04 is a good design and is driver friendly.
Best Car I have owned!
I owned a 2003.....This car is not even the same, at all. I have never driven a car that has the handling, ever. I let my friends drive it and the only way for them to descibe is, it drives itself! I beg someone to find a car for $30,000 with the same ride experience.
Kudos to the new Malibu!
It is awesome. My wife and I hated the old Malibu! We love the new one!
