FOM Car
This Fat Old Man (FOM) searched online for cars for seniors with large frames (person not the car) and the Impala Premier came up regularly as the only American car that rated high in this unique category. I went and test drove the car. First test was my 6' 300 lb frame getting into the car. It passed with flying colors. Head room, leg room were great. Shoulder space was great, too. The sales rep, only slightly smaller, fit easily into the back seat. (I test drove the equivalent Buick; it did not pass.) Handling on the very rainy day was solid. Safety features, another senior requirement, were good. The lane monitoring system worked well, notifying me of my slipping too far right or left of my lane before (this is the important part) my wife could notify me in the old fashion way. Front collision warning worked, rear backup camera instantly on and covered wide area. The color, black, was negative for me so I held out for my color of choice, tinsel red. Dealer had to trade with another dealer 400 miles away to get me what I wanted. Also, some "extras" such as sun/moon roofs not really on FOM need list so opted out of these as too costly. All weather mats not really worth $1,599 listed on sticker so rejected these. When the car arrived it was really breath taking. I looked real good, even better than the black with all the extras. Potential clients looking for their own cars stopped, stared, and commented on how good looking the car was. These comments have continued in mall parking lots, at church, and even when our grown children have seen it. People, including us, actually like how this Chevy looks and say so. The leather interior with special stitching also gets very complimentary comments. Within days of buying the car we drove 300 miles to our grandchildren's place in very comfortable style. Acceleration was great when needed. Entertainment choices were good. Controls on steering wheel were easy to work. In all, I love this car and I only saw cars as a means to get around before this, including the Cadillac my wife drives. The price paid includes taxes, tags, dealer prep, etc.

FAR BEYOND EXPECTATIONS
The Impala Premier V6 is an exceptional full-size sedan. Comfort and roominess (front and rear seating plus trunk) far exceed mid-size sedan competitors -- Accord, Camry, Fusion, Altima, Sonata, Malibu, etc. Styling, exterior and interior, is sharp. All performance factors are tops -- acceleration, braking, handling, ride, and quietness. And fuel mileage exceeds factory figures. My wife and I average 30 MPG at 75 MPG on the interstates on long trips (rated at 29). The instrument panel is easy to read and the controls including techie ones are easy to learn. On board NAVI is not only more convenient than a cell phone map, it’s much safer. In 35000 miles the car has not visited the Chevy Service Dept. except for recommended oil change and tire rotation. One slight drawback: it is a little easier to get in and out of our Cadillac SRX crossover which also has a great “heads-up-display” (HUD). TOTAL SCORE: The Chevy Impala is an exceptional vehicle with tremendous value. It’s sad that GM is discontinuing most sedans - I was looking forward to the next generation Impala.

Same great car 3 years in a row
I've had the 2017 Premier for a few weeks now. Traded in my 2014 impala 2LT for an upgraded version. Its the same car as before only much nicer interior. I'm not impressed by infotainment and leather, I want them but thats not why I got another Impala. I got it because it drives like a dream. Acceleration at low speeds is very good, at highway speeds it awesome. It handles like a performance car when cornering. Its interior is very quite which make driving any distance a pleasure. Cargo space is excellent and my passengers in the back seat are amazed at how much room they have and how comfortable it is. I've watched the maintenance reviews from other drivers and its been a solid car. Gas mileage is what you would expect for a full size sedan. If you like bells and whistles, wifi, infotainment, heated and cooled seats, heated steering wheel and side mirrors, if you can't live without usb ports and a 120 volt outlet in the back seat well this car will not disappoint you. Did I mention the Bose sound system and oh its got a "secret" compartment that I can lock behind the infotainment center that seems to impress everyone that sees it. Seriously, its a great car that doesn't disappoint.

Big, comfortable sedan
18-Month update: No issues so far. I love this car. Though the original wireless charger works on my Android phone, it does not work with iPhone X and 8. Newer GM models support iPhone, and fortunately there's an upgraded wireless charging module you can purchase for the Impala. It also improves wireless charging in general. I purchased it, and it was easy to replace in the Impala. I love the 20 inch wheels, however I hit a curb and dented a rim, and tore a piece of the sidewall. $500 to replace. 12-Month update: We are now into the 2nd Winter for this car, 7.5K miles, and it continues to impress me. I have had no mechanical or quality issues, and average 21 MPG in mostly local driving (7 mile commute to work). I'll say it again I really like the remote start feature on my phone. In the Winter it automatically heats the seat and defrosts the rear window and mirror. I'll also say again you need snow tires if you get the optional 20 inch wheels and plan to drive in snow or ice. 6-Month update: I still love this car. Now that Summer is here, I am really enjoying the cooled seats. A nice feature is the car will turn on the cooled seats when you start the car remotely from the Chevy app or key fob. The Bose centerpoint surround sound system is incredible. XM radio sounds ok, but you really need to feed it direct line or bluetooth audio to fully enjoy the 11 speaker system. Original Review: I did a lot of research and was going to get a 2017 Mazda 6 in the Spring of 2017 to replace my 2007 Mazda 6. I had looked at Impalas and other big sedans but technology and luxury options pushed them above my budget. However Chevy offered 20% off MSRP on 2017 Impalas, meaning I could get $8K off a loaded Premier. I got a Premier in silver every option but the radar cruise control. The optional 20inch wheels look great in my opinion. However those tires are not suited for snow, so I purchased snow tires and wheels from Tire Rack. The car succeeds in providing a quiet comfortable ride with some decent features. I have just 2 minor issues so far. The transmission seems to like to start off in a high gear, I assume for fuel economy, so I have to step on the gas more than I'm used to. The car has great power, and I love the sound of the V6. The other issue is with the wireless phone charger,P in the cubby with the door. The rubber pad is too thick for my phone to charge. I removed the pad and put a patch of thin rubber carpet backing there to keep the phone from sliding around, so far it works great. The Impala is compelling and with a 20% off incentive it was a no-brainer for me.

My 2 pet peeves about this car
When opening the trunk in the winter, any accumulated ice on the rear window will break up and slide into the trunk. Also, it is almost impossible to clean the inside of the rear window. No access.

Love It So Far
I have only had it for a week, so can't say anything about the reliability or the fuel economy. Had to order it special because I wanted the Adaptive Cruise Control which comes with Forward Automatic Braking (they work great), and the dealers don't stock cars with that option. I really like the built in GPS and maps - no longer have to carry a Garmin on my front shelf. And you can program the GPS by talking to it. Got lost at night the first time we were out, and was able to tell it where I wanted to go, and it got us there. Update - Nov 2018 - No change in my comments. Unfortunately, this is one of the cars that General Motors says they are discontinuing.

Best car that I've owned for years
I went from a 2013 Malibu to the 2017 Impala in March of 2017. I got the 3.6L, 305hp engine because I wanted better performance. The Impala has meet my expectations, not only for performance but in road handling ability and ride comfort.

Great value for the money.
They should know that they are getting a great value which has always been an important component of the Impala. This Impala is however clearly a step above older models. Great style, ride, comfort and just a really nice driving experience make it a wonderful car to own. I am really pleased with it. I just took a 2400 mile trip and averaged 32 miles per gallon at an average of 70 MPH. I still really like this car and hope that Chevrolet brings back a new version in the future now that 2020 is the last year. If they don't I will just buy a low mileage newer than mine model in the future.

This big guy loves this car!
I am 6 foot 1 and 240 lb and I hate, YES, HATE seat bolsters. That’s why I bought this car. This car has awesome seats. Maybe a bit too firm at times, but very comfortable with lots of room. After 2 + years I still love the exterior and the high class interior. Powerful engine, smooth quiet ride. My 6 foot 3 son can’t sit in the back due to low headroom and the mileage is only 19mpg, but those are the only two flaws...ok, the reminder that “ice is possible” every time the temp hits 37 is really obnoxious too. Interface w iPhone is terrific, radio controls are superb. I have owned many many cars in my life and this is near the top. Only my old original Acura TL rivals it. My only issues with reliability have been a loud catalytic and a faulty gas pedal, both replaced quickly, same day for free at the dealer. It does not do well in snow at all, but found it much better if you turn OFF the traction control, oddly. Get snow tires if u live where it snows regularly. For a sedan, this car is a good value, very roomy and looks and drives great!

Power and comfort, but unreliable
Purchased as used with 17k miles. GM certified, so it brought the bumper to bumper warranty up to 48k. Very comfortable, great ride for road trips. Premier model provides some very nice and luxurious options. As an on the road salesperson, put lots of miles on it, (28k in the first 12 months). First year had no issue, then the fuel pump failed at 45k. This is very premature, but the worst part about it was that it took 8 weeks for my dealership to get the fuel pump from GM. After getting the car back with new fuel pump, the weather had changed to warm, and I used the A/C for the first time that year, and no cold air. Took it back it, and the evaporator had to be replaced. Unfortunately, it was deja vu all over again, because it took the dealership 6 weeks to get the part. Once I got the car back from that repair, I got rid of it as soon as possible.

Too soon to tell
Based on my experience, this is a review of the 2017 Chevy Impala LS features and comparisons between the 2012 LS and 2017 LS. In June 2018, I bought a new 2017 Chevy Impala LS. I needed a work horse with a luxurious big car feel. I don’t need all the bells and whistles the Premier has. Since the 1960s, my grandfather bought multiple Chevy Impala and Caprice vehicles. His last car was a 1978 Chevy Impala; it was a boxy design, uncomfortable, and had mechanical issues. From 1977 up till 1990, the Impala comfort and mechanics deteriorated. By 1992, once again Impala became a solid work horse performing mechanically well and providing comfort. I drove the 1992 through 1997 Chevy Caprice and Impala as a police officer. It provided the needed muscle and handling for driving on tough Chicago roads and conditions. In addition, I drove multiple 2011 – 2013 Impalas as rentals. In 2013, I bought a new 2012 Chevy Impala LS V6. In 2018, I traded it with 110,000 miles for the 2017 Impala LS V6 with 24 miles. During the 6 years I owned the 2012 LS, I had a few mechanical problems. A wheel bearing and a faulty emissions sensor were replaced along with brakes and tires. The rear window shattered which was due to a faulty rear electric defroster wire common in 2009 -2013 Impalas. YouTube videos discuss this defect demonstrating how to replace the faulty burned-out wire located in the front passenger compartment near the right foot. Unfortunately, Chevy didn’t acknowledge the faulty wire nor window shattering as an important recall. The 2012 LS handling was good. Often, I would accelerate through an expressway clover leaf not feeling much tilt in the suspension. The 2012 LS came with 16” aluminum alloy rims where the 2012 LT had 17” and LTZ had 18” rims. The 2017 LS does come with 18” rims which adds to the smooth riding and handling. In addition, the 2017 LS sits higher compared to the 2012 LS due to the 18” rims. In 2012, the V-6 305 horse power engine was standard in the LS, LT, and LTZ. Unfortunately, Chevy has bastardized the 2014-2019 Impala by equipping LS and some LTs with an inferior 4 cylinder. It will cost you $1K more to get the V-6 in the 2017-19 LS while optional in LT and standard in Premier. The gas mileage is the same in the 2012 and 2017 LS. There isn’t any improvement in mpg. However, take your eyes off fuel mileage for a moment, and consider a roomy, quiet spacious, luxurious ride where you can have a conversation with loved ones; it does have great handling, braking, and the controls are simple. A friend has a luxurious Infinity and commented on how he’d much rather have buttons than touch screens with multiple displays you have to filter through while driving. The interior roominess feels about the same in the 2017 as the 2012. However, the front seat is uncomfortable after sitting long hours in Chicago traffic. There are more cup holders in the 2017 LS located in the side door panels. In the 2012 models, rear seats folding down were not available in LS, as an option in LT, and standard in LTZ. The rear seats do fold down on all 2017 models. With the rear seats folding, this makes the 2017 LS trunk more spacious and longer. My golf clubs would barely fit in the 2012 LS. I have some dislikes about the 2017 LS. I was disappointed with the 2017 LS standard AM/FM SiriusXM radio. The 2017 LS has a standard 6 speaker stereo system that lacks quality sound compared to the 2012 LS. I fade the music to the back speakers to hear an adequate surround sound. Without a fade, the front speakers are dominant. I adjusted equalizer settings, such as bass, treble and tone, but I still don’t hear that superb sound as in the 2012 LS. And Bluetooth doesn't work with my cell. The 3.5 mm audio port is located in the center console as well as a USB charger making it hard to reach when driving. The 2017 LS isn’t as wide as the 2012, but the side mirrors are bigger and stick out more. Backing the 2017 LS into a one car garage makes it challenging to not bang the mirrors. The side mirrors have bad blind spots causing me to look over the shoulders more often. The rear view mirror on the 2017 has less view than the 2012 LS. It’s as though the rear end sits up higher and the rear window is angled obstructing a full view. Chevy cheeped it out by not providing aluminum alloy rims with the 2017 LS and some LTs. Instead, the Impala is equipped with imitation alloy looking hub caps. The alloy rims are a costly option compared to 2012 LS alloy rims being standard. Finally, the 2017 dashboard has white stitching and is visible in the windshield. Its reflection on sunny days is distracting. It’s too soon to tell if the 2017 Impala LS is problematic or a solid vehicle. I will update this article as time progresses.

Rented it and it sold me.... the V-6 is incredible
I rented this car and am now looking to buy. Sedans have fallen out of favor, so I found a 2017 LT2 V-6 with leather for $14,499 with..... 39,000 miles. Wow. The driving is great, very nice ride, V-6 is FAST and the interior is comfortable. Mpg is good (highway especially), the only iffy thing is that the interior is hard, as in plasticky, but that's nittpicking. The reviews seem to be very good (from owners), I just think it's a sharp car that is big. I looked at the Hyundai Azera and while I like the styling (no one owns that car, so it's distinct), it was a little cramped inside and the Chevy is faster. I drive a lot on the highway and need passing power.

Look at why KBB rates this #1 Get the V6
Don't get the 4 cylinder. You will love getting out into traffic with 300+ HP, that does 0-60 in 6 sec, and has a manual on-the-fly shift from manual to automatic. What do you really want in a car? Take your eyes off fuel mileage for a moment, and consider a roomy, quiet spacious, luxurious ride where you can have a conversation with your loved ones; great handling and braking, and the controls are simple. Don't get navigation or sun roof - better without them and a nice Garmin. The Avalon is a little tighter in the steering, and has sport mode, but does not have the power - and it is double the price.

Great ride.
Very comfortable ride. Surround sound Bose system is great. Very well assembled large car.
I love it.
This LTZ Premier was my father’s car. Its extremely comfortable and smooth. It’s got all of the features and comfort of a Lexus. It’s very powerful with the V6, and the power is there even through 60-100mph. I often feel like I’m crawling in a 40mph zone and I’m well over the limit when I look down. It’s very sure footed and and the suspension and steering is fairly tight, not too plush like on other cars. It’s firm enough to handle well, but the ride is smooth. The leather is really high quality and the driver seat is amazing for my back. The lumbar support starts out low and rises as you keep the button down. My lumber issue is very low and I just adjust it to hit the right spot. Quality interior. Great stereo. It’s very quiet inside, highly insulated. Keeps cool inside on hot summer days (that could be because it’s white and I’ve never had a white car). It’s got 50k on it now. There were a couple of tire sensors replaced early on, and a major AC component. I’d consider an extended warranty if buying from Chevy. We put a 100k wrap on it that covers everything but powertrain and the powertrain is bulletproof. It was an affordable warranty. So everything has been 100% covered. I think that AC thing was a fluke. Any car is going to have something go. These cars have an excellent reputation for a reason. I’ll add no one messes with you on the road in this thing. Possible Cons: Gas mileage. You don’t buy it for mileage. Also it was odd that a major AC component costing $2500 went at 40k, but stuff happens (I accepted the dealer’s diagnosis because it was under warranty). For the money for a used LTZ Premier I really don’t think you can beat it.

I love driving this car.
This car is very comfortable to drive and ride in and gets great gas mileage. I truly hate it will no longer be made but I keep good vehicles for 10 years, that gives me time to think about my next vehicle.
No Air Con. after only 3yrs.
Make sure you have extra Warranty on the air con or else you could be looking at a $2200 repair bill like i got for a car that only 3yrs. old not very happy for a car with such good reviews
Honest Opinion after 1 Year
Pro: Vehicle looks nice, love the remote start, heated seats, hidden compartment behind the screen, app interface for specs/status/control, good speakers Con: It feels like you are driving a bobble-head down the road (body sways), poor steering (sluggish especially at lower speeds), not as much power on acceleration as I would like, and with the Firestone tires that came on it I can feel every bump in the road. Maybe I am nostalgic; but when I think of Impala, I think of police cruisers. I wanted power, supreme steering, and control. This has been redone to be more of a luxury sedan comparable to Cadillac models. With that came what they call a "soft" suspension. This is vexing to me as I was to hug the road and feel control. This vehicle may be perfect if that is what you are looking for, but for me it is frustrating.

This is the best Full Sized Sedan. Period
I have been renting through Hertz 2014 to present the Chevrolet Impala. After many rentals, I decided my next vehicle is definitely going to be this model. And specifically the 2LTZ or Premiere Trims. It is the most comfortable and roomy vehicle I have driven in years. The quality of the materials used are top notch. And a very eye catching design both inside and out. I ended up finally purchasing a 2017 Premiere. Has every available option. And one owner. So happy with this purchase. I traded in my 2001 BMW 325xi, which I bought new 19 years ago. Had 92,500 miles and was basically trouble free. Just was time to get something newer. I’m so glad I did. Michael

Nice car but not really an upgrade from a Malibu
The Impala is worlds better than big American sedans of yesteryear, but unless you need a big back seat, I'd stick with the Malibu, which is more agile, and has a better interior. The front seats of the Impala are comfortable for highway cruising and if you are a fat dude they offer a wide seat pan. But for the rest of us, especially if you are used to a Japanese or Euro sedan, these seats are lousy when cornering, as they offer zero ( and I mean zero) lateral support. You may as well be sitting at a bus stop. Also the design of the front compartment means the space around your body and legs is closed in, and feels less roomy than my 2015 Malibu. The engine is meek at low revs, but nail it and the v6 growls and responds nicely. Plenty of passing power! Just don't do that around a curve because although the suspension can handle it, those flat wide seats cannot, and you'll be slammed against the door. Gas mileage was okay in a few days of mostly highway driving-- low to mid 20's. if you really need a big back seat and trunk in an American sedan, this is a nice vehicle and a good value. Otherwise stick with a Malibu, or ( for my money) a Honda Accord.

Disappointed
I purchased the 2017 Impala lt.I had test driven three other Impalas. The ride was very good. The one that I have is worst riding car that I have ever had.I does not smooth out bumps on streets or highways.I find myself bracing for bumps. All the reviews that read ( including Edmund's ) talked about how smooth the ride was. That is not the case for the one that I have.I am very very disappointed.

Disappointing
I've always wanted an impala and after today with test driving 4 of them 2016 and a 17 I was highly disappointed. The steering gripped and pulled away from me over the slightest mismatch of the pavement which suggest that when snow hits it would be a arm wrestling match for the driver. All 4 of the vehicles did the same pull towards the left as I lightly applied the breaks to a hault. The 2016 had report of frontal damage where as the other 3 did not or has not been reported. Suspension to me for that type of vehicle should feel like its gliding but instead it felt like they all has gas adjust shocks for a sand rail. The engine itself on all four was right there with no studder or misses. Had great pick up with little lag between the gas petal and throttle. Interior when I first seen it was.. meh, nothing that blew my mind and actually bored me even though it had the fancy touch screen. I'll be keeping my 2016 Chevy cruze limited since it proved to me that it blew the impala ls doors off.

Steering feedback remarkably good. Engine transmission match the best ever. I have owned 60+new cars by the way. Engine performance as mentioned optimized by transmission gearing. 4th Catalytic Converter
Purchased this car used in 2017, within 2 months the cat went bad, due to workmanship and it cracking at weld. Chevy replaced after going back and forth. Not even 4 months later something but Chevy refused because warranty was up. Now it has happened again, this car is a pos and should be recalled. Ac doesn't work, transmission had to be replaced, I would not recommend this car for anyone!
