From a Bronco Sport to an Equinox?!

S. McCullough, 05/20/2024
2024 Chevrolet Equinox LT Fleet 4dr SUV (1.5L 4cyl Turbo 6A)

Traded in a '22 Bronco Sport for a '24 Equinox. Better fuel economy and a larger back seat were the main goals here and the Equinox checked those boxes. Tech integration (Apple car and android auto) are much better/easier to use if that's important to you. The MPG is about 28 in the city. I have yet to take it on a longer road trip yet. It's about 5 mpg more than I was getting in the Bronco Sport with the same commute. Is it fast? No. Can you quickly speed up at highway speeds if need be? Yes. I didn't really like the look compared to Bronco sport, but it's grown on me. The lane assist feature is a bit aggressive compared to other vehicles I've driven that have it. Feels like it over corrects. The steering wheel is also pretty stiff when the feature is turned on. Coming from a Ford (or any other manufacturer really) it drives different. I wouldn't say bad or anything, but it is different. I wish I could better articulate what I mean by different, but anyone who's come from another manufacturer into a Chevrolet understands what I'm talking about. The ride is smoother at highway speeds. A bit rougher when going slower on city streets. I do wish the remote start feature would turn on the AC. Maybe it's in the settings and I just haven't found it yet. But it would be nice to remote start the vehicle on a hot day and have the AC blasting when you get in. It's a good crossover and I'm happy with my purchase.

17 LS AWD and 19, 21 and 24 LT FWDs.

The 17 was not a turbo but it still got great gas mileage. 35 on highway. I liked it. Got a 19 1.5L Turbo It was a little smaller but nicer than the 17. The 21 was almost perfect but Android Auto required a USB cable and was not so dependable. Great gas mileage though, well into the 40s on the highway. The 1.5L Turbo surprised in the mountains as climbed steep and long grades without great effort and gear searching. I like the dependable 6 speed transmission. Not a CVT. I had no problems with any of them. They are all comfortable and easy to drive. They are priced below any real competitors. The later ones with LED headlights and Wireless Android Auto would be the best choice. FWD is fine for my highway and suburban driving.

First off, this is my second Equinox purchased. My first Equinox was 2020, which I bought for my condo in FL. I bought that car due to the price and I just needed it for limited use whenever I visited my condo. It’s an LS and which I got out the door for aprox 20k prior to the pandemic. I was very happy with this car. No issues, and handles just as well as my wife’s GLC300 Fast forward to 2024, and I got ride of my C300 and not will to pay for Mercedes prices. I got the RS trim with all the bells and whistles. I’m pleased with the car, but didn’t realize it misses a few features a 30k upper trim level I would expect at this price point. These options are not a life and death, but I feel should have been included as standard. The car did not come with memory seats, auto dimming rear view mirror, and auto wipers. The car handles great, the information system is seamless, and fuel economy is great. The car is little underpowered with the 1.5 liter, but it’s not a sports SVU. The room inside is extremely comfortable, which can fit 4 large adults inside. I drove my mother’s CX-5 which I also liked, but the information system is not touchscreen and I always was fumbling with controls to get between maps, calls, and radio. I felt it was kinda dangerous because I had to constantly take my eyes off the road to move the options. The Chevy his seamlessly integrated system with touchscreen. The 360 camera is fantastic (clear and crisp views). Parking warning is great and alerts of traffic when coming for side. The blind spot warning is only a flashing light, I wish it was also an audio warning too.

Do Not Buy A Chevy

Purchased a Chevy Equinox LT. Problems from day 1. Dealer was extremely dishonest. Would never make correct repairs and actually caused more problems. At this point no repair shop will touch ( or repair) this " Can Of Worms" nightmare. Never been able to go out of town or on vacation with this suv. Complete loss of power while driving down Freeway MULTI TOMES. Dealer stated it was a electrical issue but after 3+ appointments, where I waited 6 to 8 HOURS, nothing was done, despite having first appointment and being first in line. As another reviewer posted, "Reduce Engine" warning, constant Check Engine Light due to fuel system an absolute mess. Chevy isn't anywhere near what it used to be. Stay far far away from the brand.

***Update at 28,000 miles, we have driven it across country several times and still runs perfect like the day we bought it. Very comfortable and would still highly recommended if you can get a pre owned one with low miles and good service records. Ours have been flawless so far and hope to get many more miles like that. **Update at 21,000 miles and 1 year. Still a great little SUV and runs perfect, I would still highly recommend at this point. Got the Equinox LS about a month ago so can’t say how the reliability is but the overall drive comfort and feeling is much better than my Nissan rogue I had. Driving over bumps and rough roads doesn’t much better job at dampening them and feels like a much higher quality SUV and how much it actually cost. Overall I would recommend people at lest test drive the Equinox.

I purchased a Chevy Equinox 2024 July 2023 right off the lot with only 7 miles on it since the purchase I’ve taken it to the shop twice already first time was for “Right turn signal fuse holder burnt out” bearly had the car for like 3 months. Now I took it 3 months later because the warning“ Engine reduced power” turned on the engine light the High pressure fuel pump went bad. Mind you I rarely drive this car within 7 months it has 1,500 miles and already having problems within a 3 month period each time. I hate the car but I am stuck with it DO NOT buy this car it will be the worse decision you will make. RUN FAR FROM CHEVY anything.

Traded in a 2013 Equinox and purchased a 2024 Equinox. It soaks up bumps better than my 2015 Ford Edge, which surprised me. The 1.5 Turbo has adequate power. It has more features than I was expecting. I would recommend this vehicle.

I still can't believe how crappy this vehicle is. I've owned one previous Equinox, and it was "adequate". Didn't love it, didn't hate it. I didn't think I could dislike a vehicle this much! Where to start... The seats are flat, stiff and overall uncomfortable. The interior is "meh". The dual-zone climate control is a joke. 'Had my first malfunction of the forward collision alert before I even got the thing home. The all-weather mat set is overpriced; I had better coverage from a set that cost way less. There's so much slop in the lower gears that it's positively infuriating when trying to get ANY kind of response, whether it be taking off from a full stop to trying to just speed up to pass. I'm dreading the thought of trying to drive this thing in the winter! I guess I'm just stuck with this thing unless I'm willing to take a huge loss on it. Might just be my last new car purchase, but definitely my last Equinox.

2024 Chevrolet Equinox Premier 4dr SUV (1.5L 4cyl Turbo 6A)
7 of 8 people found this review helpful

The 2024 is my third Equinox. My first one, a 2010 was a real Junker. It was full of engine problems, noisy clanking. It had 2 or 3 valve repairs under warranty. I had one top engine overhaul with new pistons and valves under warranty. The second one, a 2017 was a great car. I traded it in with 130,000 miles on the 2024. The only problem I had with it was a frozen PCV valve at minus 16 degrees. it caused the crankcase pressure to build up and blew out the crank shaft seal. Cost out of pocket was about $2000. GM was well aware of that issue for three years before mine blew out.. This one is a 2024 Premier. It is full of bells and whistles, but that is where it ends. The 2024 is a smaller car that the 2017 was. I knew after a couple days that they had shrunk it, not much 3 or 4 inches in height and 3 or 4 inches in length. The width is OK, my leg room is the worse for me. It is also the noisiest new car I have ever owned, Wind noise, tire noise, mechanical noise. The sound system has to be up over 50 percent to enjoy the lyrics of a song, when going down an interstate highway. I have owned about 15 or more new GM cars and pick ups. This one is a disappointment to me..

After a lot of research, I traded in a fully loaded 2019 Ford EcoSport SE for a 2024 Chevrolet Equinox LS with 17K on the odometer. It has all the available options for this base model such as reverse sensors, blind spot alert, privacy glass, and even an 8-way power driver’s seat. EPA mileage ratings state 26 (city), 31 (hwy), and 29 (combined). I’m getting 27.5 (city), 34 (hwy), and 31 (combined), and that’s with the AC on. I’m getting better fuel mileage with my Equinox than my previous vehicle. What do I like about my Equinox? Firstly, I like the color—Riptide Blue Metallic—available for this model year only. In a sea of black, white, gray, and beige vehicles, I find my Equinox easily in any parking lot. I particularly like the Infotainment 3 that comes with it. It’s easy to navigate. It’s got plenty of room to seat five adults comfortably and there’s no problem with installing car seats for the grandkids. LED lights are a big plus (I don’t need fog lights). Lane keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, and front pedestrian warning are standard and are also a plus. The 1.5 4-cylinder turbo has enough power to merge with highway traffic. Transmission is a 6-speed automatic that shifts smoothly. No slushy rubber band CVT here! What don’t I like about my Equinox? Not much. I would’ve liked the climate controls to be an automatic system instead of a manual system. However, AC cooling is strong and I can live with that. I live in South Central Texas. I’m very happy with my purchase, to say the least. UPDATE 1: After nine months, I’ve managed to add 8K miles on the odometer. I discovered other things I like about my Equinox. One thing I appreciated this last winter was how quickly the engine reached operating temperature which allowed me to operate the heater sooner. GM engineers did a great job having the engine warm up faster. I also like that it’s quiet on the highway with occasional slight road roar coming into the interior depending on road surface. My Equinox drives very smoothly and absorbs road imperfections extremely well. No mechanical, electrical, or electronic issues. And, I’m still getting the exact same mileage as stated above. This 2024 Chevy Equinox was the third model year of the third generation. A lot of the issues found in previous model years have been fixed.

Review - Chevy/GM Vehicle Ordering & Manufacturing

Death by Facepalm, 05/31/2024
2024 Chevrolet Equinox Premier 4dr SUV AWD (1.5L 4cyl Turbo 6A)
9 of 12 people found this review helpful

I had to factory order a 2024 Equinox Premier as there were NONE in the State, and I'm in the center of the Pacific Ocean. I purposefully selected the Premier because it has ventilated seats, side mirror-mounted turn signals and a (advertised as standard equipment on 4 different pages of the website) HANDS-FREE power liftgate. (If you live where I do, you would know the importance of having ALL 3!!) Car was delivered to me WITHOUT the hands-free liftgate!!! After trying ALL the levels of Chevy's Customer "satisfaction" Center, Chevy says there's NOTHING it will do - "it's not a manufacturing defect". (The snarky part of me wonders if that's b'cuz it was assembled in Mexico?) Of course, the dealership can not do anything, b'cuz they do NOT make the vehicles (and this isn't an option that just be 'added-on'. So, just a EPIC FAIL on Chevy's part. (And I paid MSRP, which was $4000 LESS than the other Chevy dealers here!!

I loved my brand nee vehicle. I bought it as a security. Brand new no worries! We'll 10k happens and all of a sudden I get a vehicle that now won't shift properly lagging. Rough shifting onces it shifts loss of power at anytime. And the greatest thing of all not one light comes on to say there is a problem and because of that gm doesn't acknowledge the problem. I am upset. I thought I would be able to trust my vehicle and now I can't. New Jan 2024 vehicle very disappointing.

2024 Equinox - best value in class

Ben, 10/25/2024
2024 Chevrolet Equinox LT 4dr SUV (1.5L 4cyl Turbo 6A)
2 of 2 people found this review helpful

I purchased my Equinox in March ‘24. It was CPO with 6,000 miles. I’ve owned many cars over the years and I also rent cars on a weekly basis for work. I’ve driven the Equinox many times through rental agencies and always found them to be adequate in every way. Typically at a rental agency they are a base version and that was my hesitation at first. When I discovered you could get a 360 camera, blind spot, adaptive cruise and all the other creature comforts for $21,500 on practically a brand new car I was sold. Compared to other mid size SUVs it doesn’t do anything specifically better. But that’s okay, I wanted an affordable daily driver that had the features I wanted. I’ve put around 10,000 miles on my Equinox and could not be happier. I average 32-34 MPGs and the ride is comfortable. You will not win any drag races, but the power sore than adequate for its size. I will say, the transmission gearing can be a little odd. But you get used to it. Chevrolet fixed the brake booster issue in the ‘22 model and overall the 1.5 is a proven drivetrain. I also was able to get a bumper to bumper GM backed warranty for around $1500 to cover it for 8 years/115,000 miles. So for $23,000 all in, it was an easy decision. Also, everything maintenance wise is relatively easy to get to. The LED headlights are good, the safety features (blind spot, adaptive cruise, 360 camera) perform better than many luxury cars I’ve driven. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase. For the price, I don’t see any other vehicle that compares. The only issue I have had is the paint on the rear bumper edge was starting g to come off at the edge because the tolerance between the quarter panel and bumper was tight. The dealer took care of this 100% under warranty without any questions.

I initially selected the Equinox because the driver side dimensions were nearly identical to my last vehicle. I found that the drivers space was very roomy and the powered seat and adjustable wheel made it easy to fit into and get out of. The dashboard is well laid out and can be seen at a glance. The entertainment options are well placed, large monitor (7 inches) and the controls are easy to use. This model has a full moon roof and electronic sun shield that covers the space and then unfolds to reveal a full glass ceiling. There's just something about a moonroof that opens up the space. The Equinox has a 1.5 liter engine with plenty of get up and go and I get great gas mileage out of it. All in all I am very happy with this SUV and highly recommend it.

infotainment system does not support TEXT messages

I did not find out that GM had removed TEXT message notification app on their vehicles. I had it on my 2014 Impala and 2018 Canyon. I purchased a 2024 Equinox and after a week I discovered that the Equinox does not support TEXT messages. I would have not purchased the vehicle if I had known this. They tell you that you have to run Android Auto to hear/see TEXT messages. But who wants to plug in your phone every time you get in or use AA wireless connection (which burns phone battery). GM could have at least put in a wireless charger in all vehicles to make up for that. Now days the government wants people to use hands free for phones. But if you have to open your phone to see the TEXT messages that would seem to be a step back in safety.

Drove this car for a week as a loaner and would never own one. Very annoying to drive and very poor performance. Drives like your grandma’s clunker from the 1970’s.

Has all the bells and whistle you could ever need, I think the engine could have been the 1.5 CVT or 2.0, but I am happy with what I purchased at this time.

Surpassed Expectations

Was not expecting this much from this car, based on past reviews. Nice ride, very quiet, no rattles or squeaks, and amazing technology. The driver information display is small, but I am impressed with its usefulness and ability to display engine functions. I now have 10,000 miles on the car, and I get 34mpg on the highway, and 30mpg around town. Not bad for AWD. This is quite a bit higher than the 26/30 by the EPA and other reviews. The engine is has adequate power and has no issue holding speeds on the highway. However, the transmission and engine could be programmed better. For example, if I need a sudden burst of speed, the engine kicks into high revs while the transmission downshifts, and you do not get the extra speed you anticipate. All in all, I could not be happier with this car.
