Used 2010 Chevrolet Equinox Consumer Reviews
Stay Away!!
I along with many others have had the worst experience with my 2010 Chevy Equinox. I purchased the car new, with an extended warranty that covered everything and anything that went wrong with the car, and I am glad I did. Within the first 60,000 miles the car has been in the shop with major repairs 4 times. During the 60,000 miles I have had 3, yes 3 timing chains put into the car, a new transfer case, and new piston rings, along with a problem with the steering, and other minor issues. Now, the car has just 76,000 miles on it, and it needs a new transmission. I have kept up on all maintenance for this car, kept it in great condition, and it has fallen apart around me. I really wanted to love this car, the interior is setup great for me, I love the way it looks and feels, but the car is just full of junk parts that will break. Very disappointed in my purchase the quality of vehicle released by Chevy. Don’t believe all the commercials from Chevy on how reliable they are, they may be reliable for a year, but then they fall apart piece by piece.

Second followup
Millage between 12 and 16 thousand miles. Nor-Cal to Mass, optional V-6. Still very happy with everything. Gas MPG was way up on whole trip. One day across Wyoming got 29.2 MPG. Most other days MPG was between 24.5 and 28.5 at 75+ MPH. No problems at all. I need to get front end "Bra" as the front of the car takes a beating with road objects flying into you causing paint divots. GM and LaBra don't offer them. Oil changes, tire rotations have been at 7500 miles each with around 24% oil life left. The car climbs highway hills with no problem, cruise manages that well including gas mileage. Cruise memory can get overloaded sometimes just reset and your ok. Great long trip car the best for 2 or 4

Happy except for reliability
Have 40,000 miles on the Equinox now. I have no complaints about the gas mileage and don't really care. Blue tooth, radio controls seats are all fine. It is an SUV, not a sports car but given that, I am happy with the ride. However (you knew that was coming) it is now at the dealer for the 3rd time to fix a major transmission problem. It is still under the drive train warranty luckily and we get a free rental. Service department is nice enough. But it is awful to have the car break down in the middle of rush hour traffic in the left lane of the highway. Don't know how common transmission problems are in this car but we got a lemon. I am going to insist they replace the whole transmission.
Still Loving It!
Purchased my Equinox in Nov. 2009. I'm still loving this SUV! Comfortable, reliable, roomy. Plenty of "get up and go" for a 4 cylinder. I've never owned a 4-cylinder before and was a little concerned. Not any more! I'm getting about 26 mpg in the city. Since I do mainly city driving, it is 3 weeks between fill ups. On highway driving, I'm getting about 28 mpg. Not the expected 32, but still great for a SUV. You won't be disappointed with this purchase. I've never loved an automobile so much before!
Nice car, poor reliability
I bought this car when looking for a replacement car for my daughter. It was a one owner in immaculate condition with all service records and regular oil changes. Had driven one as a rental car on vacation and was impressed with the car and especially the fuel economy. Granted it was an FWD model but we averaged well over 30 MPG. My AWD car has never broken 23 MPG, although I have yet to take it on a highway trip. The A/C compressor and fuel pump had already been replaced when the car hit 90k miles. After owning it for a few weeks, I noticed the engine was making racket when sitting in a drive though line next to a wall. Brought it back to the dealer and after 2 days of diagnosing determined it had a faulty timing chain and a cracked exhaust manifold. After searching online I found that these are common issues in the Ecotech line of GM 4 cyl engines. Luckily it was all repaired under warranty. I have had Hondas and Toyotas since 1984 and have never had anything like these issues happen. My Equinox is now essentially a rebuilt car. As much as I enjoy the car I would advise folks never to buy one of these used until the above issues have been corrected. The above repairs, along with the A/C compressor and fuel pump would total well over $5,000, I would imagine. Inexcusable in today's world. Read reliability surveys and consumer reviews on websites such as Edmunds. Should you do so and still purchase a car like this you have no one to blame but yourself.
