Purchased this car brand new. A year later, the check engine light came on & the car wasn't running right. The dealer told me the coolant system needed to be replaced & kept the car for 10 days waiting for Chevy to manufacturer the parts. Since then, I've had to replace the coolant system 5 times in 4 years. I just learned that it was never the coolant system - it was the engine. 76K hwy miles & I need a new engine because Chevy failed to correctly identify the problem. I also had the car flood when it rained. I replaced the starter twice as well. Thanks a lot Chevy for making such a wonderful piece of crap!

I have owned my 06 Equinox LT2 for 3 yrs and havent had much issues with it. I bought it used w/all records and it had less than 100k on it. Now it has 142k and still runs well. My husband is an ASE Certified technician, so he does a thorough assessment of any vehicle we may buy; as well as repair. The 2006 has a/c issues. Dealerships will try all sorts of parts and not even think of the evaporator core - which is behind the dash. The ac freezes up in these models, and replacing the evap core is whats needed for a permanent fix. So thankful I have a man with the know how to fix one, than be taken to the cleaners by the dealership. The steering is the other "con" - as its like theres no power steering. Otherwise I love my little suv. Gets good gas milage, love the look, comfortable & parts arent overly expensive. I do know from a bit of research that you dont want the 4cyl model. I wld never get a 4 cyl vehicle - no get up and go. This suv picks up and goes quite well. You can pull a trailer or pop-up camper easily. For the price bracket, its a good suv if you get the LT model and not the LS. As with any vehicle, have an experienced auto technician check it out for you.

Poor Quality, performance poor. Had to put a quart of oil every 500 miles. No it wasn't leaking. Been to three different mechanics all say need to break into engine, could cost upwards of four grand. Decide to put oil in when needed. Maybe it just a lemon. But will not buy Chevy brand small suv.

Poor quality

I purchased my 2006 Equinox new and have had numerous problems, such as the two visor makeup mirrors breaking off - only used several times by adults. The battery is hidden so well that I couldn't find it! Now the heater and ac doesn't work.Cost to repair a defect in a flapper is around $1000.I need the defroster for my long commute, so I guess I don't have a car for the winter. Huge front side pillars make driving in parking lots dangerous - almost ran over a pedestrian! Seats are uncomfortable, and the rear door is stiff and needs two hands to close. The CD player is picky about what it will play. Very disappointed in this car-cheap materials, overpriced vehicle.
