Hands down-- Great car
Over the past 10 years have driven the Mazda 3, and some assorted european models overseas. Test drove the Focus and the Cruze this go-round and like the Handling is superb, shifting (manual) is a breeze -- lot's of getup and go with the turbo.... great gas mileage. Recommend getting some blind spot sticker mirrors for your side mirrors if you do a lot of city driving... they only cost 99 cents and help out a lot as the side mirrors aren't as big as the focus. Pros: No road noise even at highway speeds. 5 star safety (10 airbags). Comfortable, smooth ride all around (if you don't believe it read kelly blue book review). CONS: Brakes are not as tight as Ford. immediately.
A Car You Can Trust!
I purchased my 2014 Cruze as a Certified Pre-Owned vehicle with 5,800 miles on the clock. I'm happy to say I'm nothing but satisfied with the car. It does exactly what it was meant to do. It's affordable, reliable, efficient, and is equipped with enough technology for the average person to be happy. It's not overly flashy, or trying too hard like some of the foreign mid-sizers. It's just an honest, handsome, well proportioned little car. I average 32-33 mix of city and highway. Haven't had a single mechanical issue yet. But what about safety you ask? I sold these for over a year and heard horrendous accident stories. Not a single injury. It does what it says, and it does it well.
Learn how to drive a manual
This month I purchased a gas Cruze Eco with the six speed manual. I just filled up the tank and checked the gas mileage. I got 39 mpg! That was all around driving, although the majority was highway. Then I drove 98 miles all highway at 62 mph, twice aggressively passing and negotiating some hills. I filled up and it only took 2 gallons! 49 mpg! I am very happy so far. It handles well and isn't underpowered. My 2004 impala 3.8 which I traded in for this had a better ride and more passing power, but I don't think I lost much in these areas. I am very happy. My advice: learn how to use a manual:>)
15,000 mile review
The Cruze diesel is amazing! Highway fuel mileage is over 50mpg if you drive at 70mph. Good acceleration, decent handling and ride qualities combined with nice leather interior are hard to beat in its class After 15.000 completely trouble free miles it has only been back to my dealer for free oil service and tire rotation
Great everyday driver, with style!
I bought this car for my wife. She didn't think that she would like a small car coming away from a Nissan Armada; let me tell you she was wrong, can't her out of it. The car looks small in stature but interior has good spacing and a large trunk for a small vehicle. The car handles very firm but is really fun and comfortable. We have owned an Audi A4 1.8 turbo a while back and it handles just like it, very predictable and hugs the road. The ride is smooth and bumps are effortless. The electronics inside the car are great for long trips or short work journeys. Let me be the first to admit we were going to opt out on the Mylink and the other, GET THEM YOU WONT REGRET IT!
2014 Cruze diesel Best mpg in my life! Fantastic!
We have owned this car since Oct. 2014. It has done a mix of driving with some long road trips. getting 60 mpg with the low rolling resistance tires in the summer was a fantastic plus. But we have also seen 44 mpg mixed city driving. It goes down when we change to winter tires for driving conditions in Minnesota but is still 3 to 8 mpg above the EPA "estimates". The only way to get the mileage under 25 is letting it idle in the winter with the heat on while waiting for someone in a store! Getting into the car is a little difficult for a 6'2" tall man, it reminds me of my exotic sports car I used to own, but once in the car it is great! The handling is something other small car owners dream about for the engine gives the car just the right amount of weight. Acceleration is great for an economy car plus braking is great. the steering is a little twitchy at freeway speed but the driver is supposed to be paying attention at higher speed! I like the parking assist and backup camera. I have loaded all kinds of stuff in to the car through the backseat, even 8 foot 2 x 4's and 10 foot pipe. back seat room behind me is just not there. But it is ok when my wife is driving. I found when I was shopping cars in 2014 that this was the most comfortable inside for a large man. We have the leather interior and all the options but the price of the car new was not at all high. About $8k under the infamous car company that lied about their diesels. Chevy is up front about what the owner should do for maintenance and we like the 2 years free oil changes. I was waiting for a car that would get over 30 mpg in mixed city driving and our average of 38 is great. I knew I wanted either electric or diesel and diesel won in every way. Update 11-14-2016. This year this car hit a new milestone(pun intended) with it's mileage at 61.3 MPG on a short trip of 150 miles. I had filled up before leaving and had to wait most of the trip to see the fuel gauge move off the full mark. OUTSTANDING!! Around town mileage for short trips has gone to about the EPA level of 26 mpg but the part of the system that measures fuel economy between fill ups is constantly showing 31 to 33 mpg average. A full tank of almost 15 gallons lasts a LONG time. We have yet to drive over 500 miles round trip with the car but highway mileage in the high 50's to low 60's is normal. If you balance this diesel with gas car maintenance and fuel costs compared to Premium gas required in lots of turbo engined small cars our costs are at least 25% lower but we are experiencing about 50% lower. I expect that when the 2017 1.6L diesel comes out I would think drivers could get into the 70's and if you tried really hard even to 80 MPG. GM is doing the right thing with their diesels. 05/2018 Last June I managed 82.1 MPG highway on I-80 coming out of the mountains in WY into NE. I was very surprised. This year we have about 24,000 on the car and are trading it in for a Chevrolet Equinox with the 1.6L diesel. I hope I can get the 40 mpg with it.

It exceeds the expectations I had.
I drive 63 miles one way to work, flat and mostly freeway, in Kern County, CA. 41 miles per gallon average overall at 35000 miles in 11 months. The car gets over 50 mpg on flat freeway at 70 mph. If you drop to 55 mph, you can exceed 60 mpg. The car has been perfect to this date. Fantastic power in acceleration; can really move to pass or to accelerate to freeway speed. I have driven it on I 5 over the Grapevine several time, it moves with the air conditioner on high with no problems and holds speed on cruise control going up hill on the Grapevine without any problems. Great looking car. An easy parking car. Only problem. my daughter broke the passenger side vanity mirror cover, otherwise a car that met all of my expectations, especially for fuel mileage since I am putting on about 40 k a year. Update at 92000 miles; the car continues to get great mileage- 46.7 mpg on a 2200 mile round trip to Boulder Co. Also, still great power for passing or coming on to a freeway. At near 92750 miles had a very light coolant leak. Dealership said it was the water pump, covered under the extended warranty. However, for 28 days they could not get a replacement water pump. 28 days!!! GM has to spare up for simple things like a water pump. What would have happened if the water pump went out on a trip? Wait for a month for car repair? Other than that, the car still runs reliably, now at 97000+ miles. Update at 100,000 miles: a programmed message comes on to change the timing chain. It is a belt, not a chain. I was surprised because I had no prior inkling this was going to occur. I called the local Chevrolet dealer and asked for a price estimate; $4500!. I think they gave me a phony estimate, because this belt is external to the engine. I haven't changed it yet, but I will do the work myself. The car is still running great; great power, mileage in the 46 mpg range on the highway. Update 130,000 miles. The car continues to perform well, both in power and mileage. For a 6 year old car, at this point, it has performed very well.

What a Car!!!!
Since I purchased the 2014 Cruze Turbo Diesel I have been getting outstanding hwy mileage such as the last trip I made was for 523 miles and my average at 70 miles per hour was 49.5 MPG. The car has plenty of get up and go in fact I must be careful as it can get too fast too quick. The Cruze is very comfortable with plenty of headroom and great foot space to stretch out. I was concerned with the power needed to climb the hills but was pleasantly surprised when the Cruze really didn't have to strain much at all. I highly recommend the Cruze Turbo Diesel to anyone wanting to drive green.
2014 Chevy Cruze 2LT RS
I bought this car certified preowned with 24k on it. I have only had it for 3 months and now have close to 32k on her. Gas mileage is impeccable! I was driving 84 miles round trip to work 5 days a week and only having to fill up once! I love the control and the quality of this car. It's my first car I've bought on my own and I couldn't have made a better choice. I love the TPMS and the oil percentage. Take off and braking are awesome. Almost had an accident last week on the interstate and she went from 70 to 0 without locking the brakes! Overall I would recommend this car to anyone looking for something to commute in. Not to mention it is very fun to drive! And the heated leather seats are amazing when it's been a long day at work! Update: I've now had this car for close to a year and I'm up to 46k on the odometer, nothing but routine maintenance has been needed, and I have decided I will not be getting rid of it until I absolutely have to! This is my baby. A lot of bang for the buck I'd say! Only downside I've noticed is the acceleration being slower when the air is on but that's normal! I love this car and everything about it!

42 mpg average for 11,000 miles
I drive 54 miles round trip on a daily basic and am very happy with most aspects of this car. My drive consists of mixed driving and lots of different traffic flows. Right now with 11,000 miles on the car in 4 months I have little to complain about. The lifetime average with the car is 42 mpg. On trips where I can use the open road I get in the low 50's mph. The price of fuel here in Delaware is a little more than reg. gas but well below that of premium. My one and only problem with the service from my local dealer was that they did not carry the oil or oil filter for the car. Had to make a second appointment and return later for the oil change at about 6,000 miles. I highly recommend
Great Compact Car!
I recently traded my 2011 Camaro in for a 2014 Cruze. I was trying to find a car that could save me on gas. The Cruze was an easy pick for me, compared to other cars in its class. I got the black granite metallic color, it really shines in the sun light. I was looking at the Mazda 3 also when buying a new car. I preferred the drive quality on the Cruze, the Mazda 3 had a lot of road noise for my taste. I am actually liking the Cruze more than my Camaro.
Wonderful Car... with a few catches
I drive on average 44,000 miles a year. I am reimbursed by the mi, so low cost of ownership is big. I ended up with 87,000 on the odometer before I traded the car off. Over that time I replaced 2 fuel filters regular oil changes and one set of tires. The running costs were right at 9.5 cents/mi. My lifetime average is 40.4 mpg. That's city highway and high speed. I should say the trunk is good size and I typically have 200-300 pounds in the back. I have had averages as high as 55 mpg and never had a tank below 34 mpg. The tan interior is the color to get. The dash is covered in vinyl versus the course cloth on the black interior. The light and dark contrast looks GREAT. After almost 90k the interior still looks great, only complaint the tan picks up dye off of blue jeans but a light cleaning monthly and they maintain the like new look. DEF usage is minimal 5 gallon per 10,000 mi. Buying in the 2.5 gallon containers keeps cost down. Oil changes are a little pricey, $65. You can do your own oil change but you are only saving <$20 and not really worth how difficult it is. The fuel filter is about $50 but very easy to change yourself. THE CATCH: If you can’t tell I loved this car. I had planned to keep it indefinitely. The check engine light came on… The culprit was the DEF tank heater. The tank was on back order for some time. After 3 weeks with a loaner I finally asked about trading it in. I got a great deal and I’m still a Chevrolet owner.

Waited years for this car to come out!!
I have been waiting years for for an American car company to make the cut, on a small diesel engine for a American can, Rumors have been permeating for the last 5 years in the diesel truck community for to be an American diesel powered car that we can afford to take to a shop if it needs repairs in the future because diesel engines last for a very long time and will out last the transmissions every 300k. You may not be a diesel fan like my self but even still there are many good reasons to go with this car. - Top of the line tech. - Great drivability and acceleration. - less harm to the environment than a gasser. - Seven hundred plus miles per tank. - Awesome (real) leather seats
Good car overall
I got this car in November 2016 with 56k on it. Fast forward to December 2017, it now has 79k on it. I’ve spent a lot of time with this car. Overall I do like the car but their are some things I don’t like. The drivers seat has a power slide feature but No power recline. I thought that was odd considering it’s an LTZ model (they have rectified this for the newer models). The fake leather doesn’t wear well. The drivers seat has some noticeable wear on it and it’s starting to develop small cracks but nothing major thankfully. I just have to be careful getting in and out of the seat. My bosses 2012 VW Jetta has 90k miles on it and the Fake leather in his car looks flawless still. Their are some cheap bits in the interior but it’s not too bad. Really the one thing that bothers me is the gearshift. It looks and feels cheap to me but I’m probably just too nitpicky. I really like the way the interior is laid out though. Everything is where you would expect it to be (Except for the power lock controls since this is a 2014 Cruze. They are in the center but were moved to the door in 2015) I like how the radio has actual volume and tuning knobs because a lot of cars are going away with that. I’m surprised that it doesn’t have dual zone climate control since this is the top of the line LTZ model. Even to this day, you can’t get this on any Cruze. Other cars in the class have this so it would be nice if the Cruze had it also. Mylink is pretty easy to use and straight to the point and once you pair your phone through Bluetooth, it’ll automatically connect in the future once you get in and get the car going. The back up camera is nice too but since it’s a 2014, it doesn’t have the trajectory lines on the screen. That issue was resolved in the 2015 models. It doesn’t bother me really. I’m used to it now. The backseat legroom isn’t as good as its competitors. It’s tolerable if the front seats aren’t pushed all the way back but if they are, legroom is nonexistent. The car actually drives really smooth. A lot smoother than I expected. It surprised me honestly. When you try to take off from a stop in the car, it’s almost like their is a delay by 2 to 3 seconds which means making left turns can be a challenge sometimes. My grandparents have a 2015 2lt with the same engine and theirs drives like this too. Once the car gets into the higher rpms, the speed is adequate. As far as reliability goes, it’s been pretty reliable for the most part. The only thing I’ve had to have done/replaced was an ignition coil and a battery both at the same time around 72k. I have a 5 year 100k powertrain Waranty and I thought it would have replaced the ignition coil for free at least but it didn’t. Replacing both of these items at the dealership was $527 with parts and labor. Oh well. Other than that, it’s been pretty reliable. No complaints there. And since it’s an LTZ, it has smart key access which is pretty useful. I don’t have to take the key out of my pocket for anything even when going to the trunk which it great. When I get out of the car and close the door, 8 seconds later, the car locks automatically. Overall, I give this car a 4 out of 5 stars because it meets my expectations for the most part. All of the gripes mentioned above about this car, I remind myself that no car is perfect and the end of the day, it’s still an Economy car and their is no escaping that which is completely understandable and I’m okay with it. Would I recommend this car to anybody? Yes. However I will say that if you are looking for a car with a lot of room, you might want to look elsewhere.

Solid build quality, safe and handles great. Great buy!
Purchased a 2014 Cruze LTZ about 7 months ago now. This is really an amazing car - much better than I would have expected from Chevy. I had one of these as a rental for about a week and was so impressed that I test drove a couple more and ended up buying one. The car has REALLY solid handling, it's very quiet on the highway and knowing I have 10 airbags around my family is awesome. The technology works incredibly well - from the automatic climate control (which turns the fan down when you make/answer calls!) to the voice recognition for phone/radio commands ("Play song X"!)and the great OnStar app with remote start/unlocking/panic button from your phone.
Impressive MPG
I was first interested in the car for its MPG and it hasn't disappointed me. Not only did I get 47+ on a 600-mile trip to LA and back (freeway, backed-up traffic and mountain passes), but the power is impressive. Set the cruise control at freeways speeds going uphill and it held its speed and didn't downshift (Grapevine or Cajon Pass). Definitely a sporty feel but it rides very nice and the leather seats are quite comfortable. Only complaint is MyLink system reset once then quit working another time for no apparent reason then started working again.
Diesel issues not covered under warranty
I've had my Diesel 14 Cruze for about 10K miles. It has never come up with any messages about regen. Suddenly the turbo stopped working and a message came on that said reduced power. It's still under the bumper to bumper warranty. I took it into a dealer and they said the particulate filter is clogged and it needed to go into regen. They are telling me they could't find anything wrong so, they are charging me $320 to put it through regen. If there wasn't a problem, why didn't it go through regen? What's the point of a factory warranty? I averaged 40 mpg. Based on diesel fuel being 10-20% more than gas, a gas car is almost the same efficiency, with a less complicated engine. Should have bought a Civic. Better resale, similar cost to drive, and probably wouldn't have been in the shop under warranty costing me $320.

A Cruize without cruise? How can that be?
I have had my Cruize for 2 years now and I have not had any trouble at all with it. It is dependable and reliable. Only issue I had was that I did not realize that they still made cars without cruise control. I bought mine and assumed that it had it but it did not.

Diesel Exhaust DPF issues
This '14' Cruze Diesel was purchased new in Feb. 2014, all highway miles, today it has 81,000 miles on it and has had the exhaust reburned 7 x's, manually by the garage, not once did the car display any reburn in process or do not stop until the reburn is completed, no messages (the reburn should be automatic). The dealer could not find anything wrong. it was covered under warranty on two of the reburns, the rest came out my pocket at $140.00 each, It has been to 3 different garages and each mechanic believes the car has never done a reburn on its own. The engineers have some work to do with respect to the exhaust DPF . As for gas mileage, ave. 43 GPM tank to tank, fuel filters cost $120.00 each, 2 installed so far, oil filters are $25.00, and oil is 8.00 quart, (low ash formula) all this plus labor, this is not the car to have if you do short runs of only drive 20 miles to work. it will not get hot enough to get good mileage. This extras cost makes the gas version a better choice. Update: the car has 128,000 on it . At 110,000 miles Chevy updated the software and it has not had an issue with the exhaust reburn, all is good , The ave. gas milage is 43 mpg, if you drive around 55 mph on the highways it will push 50 mpg. I will mention another item that I think is great, it still has the original brakes and rotors and they are not warped or worn out , my other cars warp at 36,000 and need to be replaced, I'm impressed

Blown engine, sensor hell, two DEF tanks
Don't buy. My car has 15k miles and I'm in arbitration with GM because it's been to the dealership five times in six months with check engine light problems nobody can fix. UPDATE We are at 26k miles and the check engine light issue has not been resolved. We are getting ready to enter court on lemon law enforcement. Update: The car went in for more sensors, o2 and nox, three more times. I ended up on the phone with Mobil oil accidentally trying to locate oil for the car. It's recommended to take a strange 5w30 diesel blend which is really hard to find. The gentleman at Mobil told me that the viscosity of that oil is why my car is having problems. We followed his advice and put it a blend of 5w40 and 5w30. By magic, the car is fixed and the check engine light has been off for the past 15K miles. Update: We still have this car and it’s still having issues with the sensors. There’s a second recall out for it. I’m waiting to fix it until right before. Update: the engine blew up at 100, 054 miles. Not under warranty. The sensors have never been fixed. The car has had two exhaust fluid tank replacements. I was not able to get rid of the car under lemon law because they kept fixing it and Illinois is a tough state. This car has been one of the worst things to ever come into my life. Just paid off this POS as it sits in the driveway. Soon I can junk it and put both of us out of our misery.

Great Car
Best car I've owned in a long time, I have been waiting for a reliable American diesel car. The VW reviews and horor stories make the Chevy Cruze a easy choice.
A great compact car! (Update)
This is an update to my previous review. So far, the Cruze is still a great compact car. I have no issues to report, neither mechanical nor cosmetic. On a trip along the shores of Lake Ontario (with terrain about as even as flat can be) at 60 mph, the fuel economy registered in the mid 50s! (This was on ethanol free gas). Upon refueling, the range showed 649 miles. This was the highest number I've seen so far, and not typical for the rest of the state, which is hilly to mountainous. Looking at the 2017 Cruze, it is quite apparent that Chevy has been making significant improvements... However, if you are looking for a used Cruze, a well taken care of 2014 model should still be a great car for, by now, a very modest price, and likely a very reasonable cost of ownership.

Great family car
I recently purchased the rainforest green Cruze LS 1.8L 6 speed automatic. The cars exterior and interior styling is very impressive. So far this car has been excellent, with mostly city driving we are averaging 26 mpg. The interior is user friendly and very nice for an entry level car. There is almost no road noise while driving under 50 mph. The handling is tight however on worn roads you will feel a little play in the steering. This is not a car you could put 4 adults in comfortably, but children fit just fine in the back. Chevy is definitely going in the right direction with their designs and driver friendly focus.
Nightmare
I purchased my 2914 Chevy cruise in 2017 I regret not researching more about the major problems these cars have that were manufactured between 2011 and 2017 It’s a major and costly defect. PCV & non-return valve on engine failure causing oil to spray out of valve cover intake manifold. The stop ball in valve malfunctions leading to a cascade of failures throughout the engine. I’ve had it in the shop for repair and it did it again 11 months later. Had it back to mechanic for repair and this week it happened again. I cannot afford these multi costly repairs plus the payments I am making on the car loan. Cannot imagine selling this lemon for what little I owe on it. Ready to hand it over to the lender so they can put it in auction to get less than I owe on it and eat the balance that is sure to remain. I’ll buy a $700 junker that will surely be more reliable than this 2014 Chevy cruise junk. Buyer beware! GM is fully aware of the defects and have yet to recall it.

I Really Do Like This Car
I am 6' 3" tall and 240 lbs, and this car feels roomy and comfortable to me, but the seats are too hard! The beam suspension is not as nice as independent suspension, but it handles well for a compact. Everything feels very solid and much higher quality than other compacts I have owned. One big issue for me is that when the doors are unlocked then so is the trunk and anyone on the street, or the valet, can open the trunk by just pressing a button on the lid. Also, there is no lock or latch on the gas lid. The premium pioneer stereo isn't that great. All of the sound seems to come out of the center speaker in the dash. My Bose SoundLink sounds better. Overall, I really like this car so far.
First Compact I've Ever Purchased
I never owned a compact before but after driving a Cruze on a recent business trip I knew it was time to buy one. I'm 6'0" and find the Cruze a comfortable car that has been delivering 30 MPG city/highway mileage. I always thought compacts would be noisy and have a cheap feel to them. I'm certainly very happy with the Cruze and the cost of less than $20K. Even my wife a staunch import fan really likes the Cruze. I would recommend this car to family and friends.
Great MPG with PEP!
My overall experience with the diesel Cruze is exceptionally good. The car was purchased with about 5k miles on it and it now has 59k miles. I drive around 2 1/2 hours a day in my commute (about 150-170) miles per day. The Cadillac and Tahoe both had to go to upgrade to a newer car and get better gas mileage. Overall (city and highway) is around 40mpg, but the highway mileage alone is about 50mpg. Of course for comfort, this car is no comparison to my Cadillac. That is not really a fair call. However, the pep and handling in this Cruze is incredible, at least for a small car that isn't a sports car. For comfort, I added some fancy seat padding for the lumbar and butt (highly rated stuff from online) and got some nice tires designed for a quiet ride. It works fine for me now. It is a quiet-ish ride (nothing distracting), and the interior is nice (not fancy). My cover for the mirror on the visor broke off about 50k miles. That is the only thing, though. It is certainly an upgrade from something like a Yugo. The car has been in one accident hitting large dog/wolf/coyote (whatever it was) that wiped out the radiator and grill in front. Some bit of work later, all is well and no problems continuing from it. It took the dealership some repeated trips to fix the reason the check engine light kept coming on afterwards, since the problem was diagnosed too simply in the beginning. This occurred in an Infinity a few years ago and they just kept replacing the catalytic converter until I suggested that might not be the actual problem and I am not picking up the car until they figure it out. It took almost two days for them to find the real problem. My opinion on the problems of the check engine light that others have might be from the same problem of not tracing back far enough in the chain of events. Dealerships---don't just fix the symptom, FIND THE PROBLEM! As far as overall happiness with the car, it is a definite YES! I would buy this car again. It will be one that I drive until the wheels fall off, then look for a deal on another newer one. Maybe in the meantime, Chevy will figure out how to make the seats a bit more comfy. UPDATE 02/03/2017: still love the the car! No additional problems have cropped up. Very reliable car. Update—4 years of ownership and I’d buy it all over again. Great, reliable car. Probably will have 300k miles before I get a new car.

Fantastic car, Chevrolet's corolla...
I have 2 of those, base LS1.8 and all option LTZ 1.4T. Bought brand new right before facelift. So far cars perform flawlessly. LS is 58k miles with average 32.27MPG and LTZ 32.25MPG, still on factory tires. Both cars just... drive. LS was upgraded with factory Cruise Control (new steering wheel to gain physical controls and reprogramming in ADI dealer) after long trip without it. LTZ has no upgrades done as it came with all options. Pretty much nothing breaks down, so far LTZ had replaced main crankshaft seal (warranty), sunroof glass (recall) and 4 batteries (biggest downside of all electronics installed and push button start); LS - EVAP purge valve (MIL on, car stalling on idle, $50, 10 min swap at home) and windshield washer pump (pump leaking, $25, 30 min at home as well, for someone with basic tools and minimum skill). Maintenance is normal, just fluids at onboard computer indications, LTZ got brakes done after 70k miles (new rotors front due to age and warping, all pads 30% was still left) and iridium spark plugs are replaced every 40k to prevent issues with ignition coil on both. LS factory battery got replaced after almost 7 years as car was cranking slow. The good: Both cars drive, from oil change to oil change, require nearly nothing, not even a bulb replacement. Small hiccups described above, but never got stranded or had major failure. Cars are comfy, quiet inside, have very precise steering, bit of a gokart feel. Perfect for a commute or even a bit longer trip. Large fuel tank gives 500+ miles range between the fill-ups. The bad: My 1.8 transmission has pretty noisy pump, but works well and the 1.4T has annoying slip when just taking off cold between 1st and 2nd gear, does not happen after couple hundred yards driven. Dealer does not see issue with either. Funny thing, both are the same type and model of transmission and both issues are my cars specific. Tires - LS is on 215/60R16 Firestone and so far I think I can make 65000 miles till replacement, ride is nice and soft on those tires, LTZ came with low profile Michelin 225/45R18 and ride quality suffers, but as well tires will last me 75000 miles, extra 10000 miles over Firestones. Support for navigation. Mine has ended, can't get address sent to my factory unit from phone anymore, can't get a map update. My newly built house will always be on 'not digitized map'. 1.8 is very smooth, but a bit noisy as it gets power from RPMs, most annoying is the vibration it is causing at low rpm to the exhaust system that starts resonating, but it's just the engine's quirk. 1.4T is nice and quiet, plenty of torque, but has significant turbo lag, which is getting very pronounced in ambient temperature over 75F. At 95F it's 2 cars in 1, at low RPM it's dull, it does not want to accelerate, lack of power, transmission tries to keep RPM down to save fuel, then once over 3000RPM, the daemon wakes up and car nearly peels off, it gets annoying when driving from light to light in city traffic and car does not want to keep up with traffic on low RPM and transmission starts looking for gears giving sort of a seesaw ride. At temperatures below 75F, difference is almost not noticeable and it's quite fun to zip around. That 2 sides of the 1.4T would make me think twice to buy another model powered by the same engine, but definitely I am convinced turbo engine is the way to go just in general. Conclusion: Would I buy again? Yes and... yes. It is a great looking car, even 7 years from new, looks still fresh and modern, everything works in the car, upkeep is at bare minimum of expenses, even when I personally can't stand to have that 'one thing always broken' and those cars don't give me one. Either model is great, regardless if it's LS with 1.8 or the luxurious LTZ with 1.4 turbo. Overall, both cars were excellent choice, issues free and just overall reliable rides. I would gladly recommend either. On that note I would avoid cheap used cars, as I have seen abused Cruze's with all kinds of costly issues, leaky heads, bad PCV, turbo issues and dead catalytic converters. Avoid those, best one's are sold in new car dealerships from trade-in deals, bad one's go to auction to be sold on internet or in shady 'great deal' dealers. Update: Shortly after writing review, the 1.4 LTZ started leaking oil, once engine was open, almost $3k of repairs were required to failed parts with trade in @$5k… needless to say, now it is replaced by 2021 Equinox. The 1.8 LS on other hand, needed tires @75k (yes, Firestones lasted 75k, not originally planned 65k) and replaced transmission fluid, at 82k it had A/C fail (new compressor and TSB done, beware it is pricey!!! @$1200) and typical issues started with vaccuum, new valve cover w/PCV installed, throttle body cleaned and resealed, faulty battery cable replaced (TSB) and new EVAP purge valve (3rd one!!!) with gas cap installed. @90k PM was done (new timing belt with pulleys, water pump, serpentine belt and routine 7500mi oil change ($1200 again). That concludes the maintenance on the car. Expenses added over the last 20k miles to be around $6k. Yes I traded the 1.4 LTZ for less than $3k in repair bills, but 1.8 LS did cost in unexpected bills only $1500 for the A/C and PCV issues, all other was expected PM investment - 90k PM, tires (Hankook this time), transmission flush. Right now using it daily as a commuter to work, I get great gas mileage, can trust it to go distance and keeping it to see how far it will go. 100k update: 2 minor issues came up, transmission became jerky (or was it transmission???) and 'tighten the gas cap'... well... what was perceived as tranny, was ignition coil ($80 and 10 min work; I bet ton of higher mileage complaints get misdiagnosed here, unfortunate bad diagnostic system to detect misfire in Chevy's), now it's super smooth again and low end power is back; gas cap warning, was a poor seal on EVAP valve... bit of silicone did the job. Oh, changed oil again... secret to engine's longevity...

2014 Cruze 2LT RS 1.4 turbo 6A
8 years in and it's still humming along. Cam cover has been replaced twice. Has about 94k miles and seems to have started to use a little oil so that's something I'll be monitoring. Overall a decent car.

White lighting
I purchased new a lt1 with the technology, convience package, and sunroof. I was originally looking at the eco model but couldn't get a sunroof and was 1500 more. It's ben a while sense I have a manual transmission. I get what the window sticker says for mileage. Three carseats will fit in the back seat. The changes I would like would be available sunroof on the eco. A place for my cell phone in the center console and more leg room for my right leg so not resting so much on the center console. All in all verry pleased with this car. I am hoping it will last as long as my 1997 oldsmobile did. Up date 2018. Verry pleased with this little car. I run cooper snow tires in the winter months on the car and this does two things. The snow tire cut my mileage down 3 to 5 mpg but it also makes it go through and handle the ice and snow awesome. September 2018 update. I had my check engine light come on and it ran rough. I took it into the dealership thay replace a spark plug that had fouled out. Other than that I haven't had any issues. March 2019 45k miles and still doing great. I dont drive it as much now. Just to work and back. Family has grown so we use my wifes 2012 gmc acadia for big trips and weekends. October 2020 has 55k miles. I just did the math and I have gotten 35 mpg over the life of the car. August 2021 now have over 62k miles, still love driving it may need to get a new battery now, the car has sat for a week due to the plan-demic and has needed a jump to start. I still enjoy driving the car and now that sedans are hardly produced I don't plan and replace it anytime soon. February 2022 I have about 65k miles on my Cruze I still love my car. the Cruze is cheep to maintain and operate. February 2023 now have 75k miles on the car. Never did replace the battery just but a charger on it and no problem any more. I did replace a wheel baring that started to howl. Still a great car, and that’s good because no manufacturer makes a sedan I’d be interested in.

It takes eats my expectations in all aspects. This car has been 100 percent trouble free, recall free, and a great pleasure to drive everyday.living in Southern California San Diego area, there are lots of hills. even with the hills I'm getting around 40 miles per gallon combined city and I went with the Chevy Cruze d GM has not disappointed
Love my Cruze
Have had an excellent experience with my Cruze. Bought new in Hawaii at Cutter Chevy. My first "new" car in 16 years. Purchased as a commuter car with the intent of keeping it for 8 to 10 years. I chose the Chevy, 1st because I love the fuel economy of diesels and 2nd, I was excited that Chevy brought to the North American market a compact diesel sedan in over 25 years. I did a lot of research on the 2.0 diesel and test drove a few gas Cruzes. I liked the ride and feel of the gaser although the gas models lacked a little power. Not so in my diesel. This car has power and performance! It can get up and pass at 70 mph with ease. Now in California, and at over 16,000 miles, I still love my Cruze. It rides like a full sized car and is comfortable inside. Love the leather seats. I have realized an average in low to mid 40s mpg. My best has been 62 mpg at 70 mph with cruize control. I have had one issue that was resolved easily. Took to dealer, Cutter Chevy, Honolulu once for a bad sensor. Replaced under warranty, with loaner car for the day! No problems at all since. Changing oil is a pain though due to GM engineers locating the filter up against the passenger firewall. Now my wife and kids fight me to drive the Cruze. They like it better than our 2009 VW Jetta. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with my Cruze. If I had to, I'd buy another one! UPDATE 20170201 My 2014 Cruze is still going strong at 33,000 miles. No issues so far. I have to change the fuel filter soon according to the car's computer. The dealer says it will cost $120.00. That's a lot for a fuel filter!! Wix needs to start making Cruze fuel filters! Other than than the exobinent cost of the fuel filter, I still love my Cruze.

Cruze Diesel Problem Child
I did not see an option for diesel in the Edmund's drop down, so I selected a gas option just to write a review about my 2014 Cruze Diesel. I bought the car new in 2014. Within the first few thousand miles I had warranty work done. After about a year, the car has been in the shop constantly. The warranty work usually takes a week by the time the tech dows the diagnistics, parts are ordered, etc. Some of the same parts keep getting replced. As of now, my tags are expired (registration is paid) because the car will not pass Smog in CA because the engine light is on. Emission parts keep being replaced, and the light keeps comming on. The support for Chevy diesels is aweful, atleast for the Cruze in my area. The car has less than 30k miles. I am suposed to pick it up today, but they want me to drive it for 100 miles before they try to Smog it just to see if the engine light comes on again. I had to get a TOP from DMV.

Great Car for Price
I am already at 50k+ miles in 2.5 years and have had no issues with this car. It is a basic car - no frills. It drives smoothly and is both practical and aesthetically pleasing. My only complaint is that the interior materials are cheap. One mirror cover broke off already with basic use and the metallic coating on a door handle is peeling off already. The door locks are kind of weird (the only autolock button is on the dash) and the basic model lacks many modern features such as keyless entry/start-up or a back-up view camera. The USB connection can be finicky, and I had to have it replaced when it was new, but now it usually works as long as the USB cord is good quality. The backseats are a little cramped when people sit behind someone tallish (I am 5'7). I average around 35mpg, which is awesome. Sometimes I go 40m on 1 gallon. I only paid $15k for this car, so I am very pleased with it overall.

Too few mpg and too much sunshine I shout
Chevy electronics. Easy to pair phone to car. Infuriating trip computer that has never been close on mpg, distance to empty, gallons used. On star is good but I feel too expensive so I dropped it. Interior nice but leather seats are FIRM. Average around 32 mpg day to day use, have never come near 38 mpg rating. At 42000 miles transmission is getting dimwitted on shifts ( just want a slight speed increase, push on throttle, nothing, push, nothing, push then it's a 2 gear kickdown). Dealer says car showing no codes when I had checked. Rear seat room is good for small kids or SMALL adults. Real nightmare is sunroof failed in tilt open position. Will update when I find out what is wrong and how much financial pain it will cost. I dont think I will consider another GM vehicle if this sunroof problem turns into a financial black hole. Plus side tire wear is great, still have near 50% of original tread, premium Pioneer sound system is great. Update..cost 116.00 but dealer found crud jamming sunroof motor and cleaned it out. No longer park near trees with roof tilt open. This is NOT a performance car. RS package is dress up and nothing more. Trade value plummeted with new style release.

Cruze ECO was an excellent choice for me!
I leased a 2014 Cruze ECO last October. I love this car. Even though I drive city mostly and only live 10 miles from work I still average above 30 MPG. Any time I take a road trip I get over 40 MPG. The the steering feel and Mylink system. Awesome to play my Spotify app right through my phone to my car. Only drawbacks is the seats are a little uncomfortable for long drives. Other than that it is an awesome affordable car. Cool to get oil changes covered by Chevy as well.
RUN...don't walk...RUN AWAY FROM THIS JUNK
My wife wanted this car. Bought April, 2014. Now December, 2014. She loved the look of it and the sticker showed some good numbers for fuel consumption. The first 5000 miles or so got about 31 mpg steady. After that we are lucky to see 26. Same route and speed to work. The car accelerates on it's own. The rpm's rev all the way up and the car bucks away. You need to pay attention and hit that brake! Dealer says, "no problem found". There are interior gaskets and moldings coming off. Dealer shoved them back on and they are coming off again. Newest problem is the car keeps stalling and doesn't want to start. Have an appointment to bring it in again in two days, if it starts.
Best car EVER!
I purchased my 2014 Cruise Diesel through a Chevy dealer that had acquired it from GM as a Manufacturer vehicle. The previous owner claimed it had transmission problems & GM replaced it, tested it and gave me a 12 month, 12k mile bumper-to-bumper warranty. The car had 87k miles when I bought it and I've now driven 11k delightful miles. My driving is mostly rural highways at 55 mph and I average 42-46 mpg! My overall average for 11k miles is an impressive 43.5. My best 50 mile average is 51.7! Amazing! I check the actual mileage at every fill-up and the cars computer is very accurate. Having driven an SUV for the past 3 years I can give some pro's and con's. First, the ride quality and comfort is what I expected of a compact car- a bit more road feel, but above what I expected in the handling department. After several hours of driving the seats are a bit unforgiving, but overall comfortable. The noticeable lag on throttle response, due to turbo spin-up, is acceptable once you know to anticipate that. The extra 20 lbs of torque boost when the turbo does spins up is quite impressive! I did not expect the acceleration to make me grin like I still do! The ONLY negative is the outside temperature reads about 24 degrees low on the display. Under warranty. I had my local dealership look into it and I made 3 different trips as they replaced every component from the sensor to the gauge cluster - to no avail. UPDATE: 30 month ownership report. Have driven 60,000 miles in 30 months for a total now of 147,000 miles. A number of problems arose regarding the emissions systems. Thank you Federal government for saddling private vehicles with complicated & expensive equipment, while I watch semi after semi spew storm clouds of exhaust. Rant over. I still like the car. When replacing tires go with the Firestone FR710 low rolling resistance. I lost 3-4 MPG buying an inexpensive tire. The high compression engine helps with braking a lot. I still have 3/4 brake pads after 50k miles.

Car great until end of warranty and then.........
Here is all you need to know-after the warranty expired all of the following happened in rapid succession: Fuel pump needed replaced, water pump needed replacement, coolant hoses leaking constantly, thermostat replaced three times, oil pan leaking, coolant reservoir cracked needing replacement, intake manifold replaced, cracked head. In applying the words of an old SNL skit orginally referencing Derek Jeter, to this car- The Chevy Cruze sucks in three separate and distinct ways. 1. So hard 2. So long 3. All the time.

UPDATE:Gone and Couldn’t Wait to See It Go !!
UPDATE: 9/14/2019 This Car is Long Gone. Went to the repair shop, it was there for 2 weeks. Supposedly everything was fixed. Get it back. Leave for work, breaks down a mile from the house. DONE WITH IT !!! Run far, far away from purchasing a diesel! Update: 7/2018. Traded. Check engine light ON again. No one knows what the codes mean. So done with this car. Has shut down twice while driving to work. Update: 3/2018. This car has been in recall 4 times. In the shop over 7 times for check engine light issues. Last time some sort of heater burned out in the diesel tank. In the shop 5 days for that repair. Still regret this purchase and it was a total rip off finance wise. It all sounds good on paper until you get the payments. Did a lot of research on the 2014 turbo diesel. Purchased the car in April 2105. With less than 4000 miles on it, the check engine light comes on. To the dealer we go and 6 hrs later, they can't figure out the problem. The mechanics couldn't figure out the error code. Supposedly they had to call tech support and reset the electronics on the car. Now, the gas info doesn't read correctly. And it's still not fixed. A full tank read out tells me I can get 400 miles to a tank of diesel. I have managed to get over 50 miles to a gallon and it's a 15.6 gallon tank. The seats are low to the floor. The driver seat is power and will rise up but no lumbar support. Long drives get uncomfortable. We bought this vehicle because of the MPG and we travel often. The trunk space is so-so. It will hold 2 large suitcases and some smaller bags. The interior could be better. The sunvisors do not go far enough over to the middle to block out the sun. It does have rattles that you can hear and can't find. The stereo system sucks. It has a very "tinny" sound. I have tried adjusting it manually and per music style and it still sounds bad. The back up camera is handy. It beeps while backing up and if anything is coming from either side of the vehicle. The outside mirrors have a car icon that flashes to let you know there is a vehicle in your blind spot. It does have road noise and the car sits low to the ground. Hitting bumps and dodging potholes can be rough. UPDATE: 3/2016. This vehicle has been serviced a total of 3 times. The check engine light has been on 4 times, serviced for 3. Driving home, the car dies down to almost zero power. Warning light states the car will be shutting down due to reduced power. Thank goodness we were able to coast down hill to make it home. Called the dealer who referred us to the Chevrolet Roadside assistance. We had to find a wrecker service that would haul the car to the dealer. Due to the fact that the original dealer ( that is located 40 miles away) couldn't be more helpful , we changed to our local Chevy dealership. They were able to pinpoint the problem, fuel sensors needed replaced. Car is in then shop for 5 days. Parts have to be ordered. I am still not impressed with this vehicle. Car doesn't have 10,000 miles on it and it's been in for repair 3 times. #4 will result in me being a very unhappy customer and the dealership will be getting this car back. Unless Chevrolet has made some great upgrades for the 2015-16 models, I would steer clear of the diesel model of the Cruze. Mileage hasn't been the same since the whole system was reset. UPDATE: 9/2016. Ready to trade this car. Factory tinted windows are no help in our 100 degree temps in the summer. Takes forever for the air conditioner to cool the car. Paint isn't as durable as my older vehicle. Even after doing research before purchasing this car, it's not all it's cracked up to be. Update: 3/12/2017 Regret buying this car. 2 more times dealing with check engine light. Some sort of emissions issue. Car is very uncomfortable on long trips. Had the front emblem replaced, it looked like it had been in the car for years. Right visor mirror snapped off. I flipped it up and it snapped off. There have been 2 recalls, both dealing with the diesel system. Unless they have made some great improvements, walk away from buying this car.

Reluctant Cruze owner
I must confess that the Cruze was not my first choice. I came to the Chevy dealership looking at the malibu, but things quickly begin to fall apart on the deal. So I had to regroup and the salesman introduce the cruze as an possibility. First, the deal was right, secondly, after the test drive I was surprised at how it performed and how it looked to the eye. Needles to say I am a cruze owner and looking for this car and driver relationship to last.
What moron forgot the spare tire?
No spare, no jack, a can of fix-a-leak "good luck" once you fill the tire with that fix-a-flat the tire and rim become one. Sure you need room for the "DEF" tank but there sure is enough room for a donut and tool kit. Another thing , try to find the correct wheel. The diesel wheel is different from the regular gasoline cruze due to the larger calipers. Other then that the Chevrolet Cruze is a damn good car...

Purchase 2014 Cruz Diesel in 2014. Five months after purchase the check engine light came on, I thought this was odd. Well, I have had my car service 10 times. Spoke with GM about the problem but have not received support. Please reconsider before you buy.Maybe all the Chevy Cruz Diesels are not alike but I ended up with a bad one. I have had a Chevrolet car before with no issues.

Run from this car
I’ve owned a 2014 Chevy Cruze for 4 years. The first 2 years were great but it is all downhill from there. My sister purchased her Chevy Cruze just 2 months before me and it’s almost like the car is wired to have issues on a timeline. Every issue she has had (which are many), I have experience almost exactly 2 months later. This car has been nothing but a source of stress and a place to throw away money for the last 2 years. In recent months, it seems the check engine light is on more often than not. One might assume it is the same issue which does not get fixed but that person would be wrong. Each check engine code is for a different, unrelated issue. At this point, I am struggling to simply get the check engine light off long enough to trade it in. This is not a car built to last more than a couple of years - seriously, you won’t even get it paid off before you get tired of throwing your money into it. On top of that, any issue under warranty, requiring the dealership to fix it, has been even more of a headache. Every Chevy dealer I’ve been to with a warranty issue has given me the run around, holding my car hostage for weeks while they “wait for parts.” Well, makes sense they don’t have the parts when every 2014 Cruze has the same issue at the same time. But on top of the long waits for warranty issues to he resolved, Chevy service departments have been rude or non-communicative at best. Do not buy a Chevy Cruze. I would recommend staying away from Chevy all together but I do not have first hand experience with any other model so maybe that isn’t fair. Either way, do not buy this car. Do not buy this car. Do not buy this car. I cannot say it enough. You will regret buying this car.

20K and Counting
Purchased in July 2013 and just turner 21,000 miles. I'm 6'2", 205 lbs. and ergonomics are outstanding: seats, leg room, convenient controls, short throws on manual transmission. Suspension is excellent for low priced sedan. Decent performance in 3rd - 6th. Excellent gas mileage. Generally 33 - 35 mpg in mixed driving (70 - 30 highway vs. city). Can squeak out 40 on 4 lanes with cruise set at 60 - 62. However, prefer to cruise 75 - 80. Cabin is quiet; little road or wind noise.
It's The Best "C" car out there
Totally average, it looks like a Honda or a Toyota but for half the cost. Drives very well, cornering with stock tires is excellent, and getting in and out of the vehicle is a snap. The problem is in the false fuel economy reports for this car. The average is nowhere near 30 miles per gallon, it's about 24. In the city, the computer constantly showed about 16.5 miles per gallon. For a four cylinder???? How is this possible! I didn't get on it very much, just your average driver, and I could not get above 17 miles per gallon. The EPA fuel economy estimates are WAY off. On the freeway, it's advertised as getting 36 MPG or better, but in REALITY (there's that word again), I was getting about 28 miles per gallon. For a four cylinder car, this is supposed to be an economy car, it is totally inexcusable. What I really disliked about my Cruze was the rapid devaluation; the value was going down by the week much faster than my payments, so that if I would have kept it, I would have paid $32,000 for a car that would be worth only $3,500 at the end of the payments. Totally unacceptable. I had to get rid of it. And being as this is a first car for many new, young car buyers, the insurance costs were much higher than normal--right up there with the Camaro and Ford Mustang. Ownership costs for this average car are ridiculous. But it was fun to drive and had a very quiet ride with a great stereo system.

Losing sleep, what did I do?!
I just bought a 2014 Chevy Cruze LT last night from a licensed wholesale guy. It has 109,000 miles and looked and felt like a nice little car to teach my 15 and 16 year old kids to drive. We spent a lot of time checking it out and scanning for codes using the little meter. It drive well. The engine seemed a bit noisy with ticking but I was reassured it had something to do with fuel injection. After we decided to purchase it, I drove it over an hour and the ticking sounds seems to be louder and more obnoxious. We parked in a parking lot checking out some of the features and it was dark, right before turning off the ignition I noticed the lights dim. I’ve now been reading reviews like crazy, losing sleep over it being described as a “death trap” and many people experiencing total loss of power while driving on freeways etc. We live off a 70 MPH freeway. Having mechanical issues from the get go and reading everyone’s horror stories is making me feel really sick right now. I guess I’m stuck paying the “Stupid Tax” and will be out a little bit of money but I’m getting rid of this car ASAP and NOT letting my kids drive it. Super upsetting.
A gorgeous car bad resale value
The value of the car dropped $10,000 in less than a year it's terrible because the rental car industry is flooded with them that's why they are devaluated. they are worth more than market value they do not hold value

I would not recommend
I have a 2014 Chevy Cruze LT. I bought it in 2017 and have had nothing but problems with this car. Between the air flow performance, the engine itself, the coils, the sensors, the stabilitrak, everything! This car is a money pit and I would not recommend it to anyone. You fix one problem just to have another in two weeks. If you don’t mind throwing money into a car to fix it, go for it. They’re nice cars to look at; it drives smooth when there isn’t any problems. MPG is great, so is the speakers in the car.
