12 craptiva ltz sport fleet
Bought it on impulse, never again. Had 34k miles on it when purchased. Within 6 months had to replace the rear axle boots (than god for extended warranty). It's overall been a decent car. 4 years into it, shift button broke. I have had it 8 years, 160k on it. Apparently it should have died 80k ago according to my mechanic. 2 years ago it started throwing codes. The ignition would lock up, literally, lock my key in it and unlock the car and not start for 20 minutes then decide to start. Dealership could not figure out why or what was wrong, had it 6 weeks and they couldn't figure it out. I plug in a code reader, cylinder 2 misfire. Smells like rotten eggs. Catalytic converter? They said no it could be a sensor but it's not throwing codes. CYLINDER TWO MISFIRE........ROTTEN EGG SMELL.........but nothing is wrong. I now cannot drive at night because my car is a literal disco show as my lights flash and the car idles hard. Service traction control, service stabilitrak both come on. Check engine light comes om, sometimes flashes. Mechanic said it's a valve but won't repair because there's no aftermarket motor available, so he doesn't want to take a chance. Oh, battery needs replaced every 2 years on the spot to the day. I did just replace brakes for the first time since buying this car. Switched all brake lights, reverse lights and blinkers to led lights as they kept blowing out every other day.

This car was just what I needed when I needed it
I had a bad experience with a Hyundai Sport, and I was forced into looking for a new car. This is what was available at the time. I loved the heated seats, the rain sense windshield wipers and all the bells and whistles this car had. However, the first 4 months I had it, the transmission had issues. Being only 4 months into the ownership, the dealership i got it from, helped me out and fixed it, plus I had a warranty. I had 77K on it, so I knew things were going to start going down hill. Plus I travel to work 30 minutes, so I put a LOT of mileage on the car per week. This is a good SUV, but it also had its faults.

Junk 2012 Chevy Captiva
First bought used @ 50,000. After 2 or 3 months found a light out on right rear. Removed all insulating foam etc but could not access. Due to a recall ask dealer. Said have to remove bumper to access! Did, but found wire was bad. Then the recall, reset the cruse to work @ 1 mph increments instead of 2. Lasted short time & back like it was. Then shifter locked in park. Had to disc battery & leave hood up until fixed. This took 3 new ones. Luckily mentioned to mech friend, told me he could fix, took 5 min. & no more lock ups. THEN @ 104,500 miles it dropped a valve, ruined engine. Cheap China steel I guess. We liked the ride, size, handling etc. but I’d never recommend with all the trouble. We feel cheated as expected it to run 2-300,000 & many more years.
2012 FLEET CAPTIVA SPORT
After 8 years and over 123k miles, the old Subaru Forester needed significant repairs. Needed a roomy SUV, not a subcompact. Found the Chevy Captiva at Hertz car sales; 33k.After 36K, car would lose power for no reason; check engine light came on. While waiting for appt. with Chevy dealer, car then stalled while idling-had to have it towed.Needed oxygen sensor and fuel injector-no longer covered by warranty.Ran sluggish after repairs.Took to mechanic friend - changed transmission + brake fluid.Found transmission fluid to be black, needed new cap; found a worn cracked bolt to shock absorber. Don't know what else he did, but it runs like silk now. (chevy did suggest changing fluids at time) Update: This update is posted Aug. 2016. The Captiva has been traded in, in October 2015. The car had less than 63,000 miles. After doing above repairs, the car ran well for about a year; it then lost power and stalled again. Had it towed to the mechanic. I cannot, at this time remember exactly what he said was wrong, but it amounted to some element that controlled the fuel injector. He also felt the transmission needed work as the car would periodically surge. Since I drive alone at night; he suggested I cut my losses, trade in the car for a subcompact. Went to the Nissan dealer, got a decent trade in, and am now driving a new Versa Note.
