Chevy Corvette Z06 vs. Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Coupe: The Edmunds U-Drags Battle
Two V8-powered flagships go head-to-head
The Chevy Corvette Z06 and Mercedes-AMG GT 63 are not natural rivals. One is a front-engine grand tourer and the other is a mid-engine supercar. But both have V8s that are fantastic in their own ways, both cost well over $100,000 — even though the AMG is in excess of $60,000 pricier as tested — and both promise oohs and aahs at your local cars and coffee.
But we just have to know, has German engineering trumped the longtime American blue-collar hero? On paper, it's the Corvette's race to lose. It weighs 500 pounds less and makes more top-end grunt (670 hp vs. 577 hp). It also uses a snappy dual-clutch automatic transmission, whereas the AMG makes do with a more conventional automatic. That said, the AMG powers back with far more torque (590 lb-ft vs. 460 lb-ft) and all-wheel-drive traction that should see it sprint away from the line much more quickly than the rear-wheel-drive Z06.
So which car has what it takes to win? There's only one way to find out — check out our video below to see how it all shakes out.
