2025 Porsche 911 Carrera S Splits the Difference With 473 HP
It's only available with an automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive — for now
Happy new year; here's another 2025 Porsche 911 variant. Slotting between the base 911 Carrera and electrified 911 Carrera GTS, but also ever so slightly above the 911 Carrera T, is the new 911 Carrera S. Available as either a coupe or convertible, the 911 Carrera S comes with a non-hybrid turbocharged flat-six engine, rear-wheel drive (though we expect all-wheel drive to be added later) and a nearly $150,000 price tag.
In the Carrera S, the 911's 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six engine makes 473 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque, enough to propel the rear-wheel-drive coupe to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds. Of course, in our testing, Porsche's sports cars always tend to be quicker than the manufacturer's estimates, so this could very well be a sub-3-second car — a realm reserved for the supercar-rivaling 911 Turbo not too long ago.

Porsche will only sell the Carrera S with an eight-speed automatic transmission: the company's lovely PDK dual-clutch gearbox. We don't expect Porsche to offer a manual transmission with this 911 variant, leaving that row-your-own option for the less powerful (but arguably more special) Carrera T.
All Carrera S models come standard with performance goodies like upgraded brakes (borrowed from the outgoing Carrera GTS), staggered 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels, and Porsche's torque-vectoring tech, which manages power delivery across the rear axle. You can add ceramic composite brakes, if you wish, as well as a sport suspension. In typical Porsche fashion, there are eleventy billion personalization options from which to choose.
Like all 911s, the new Carrera S isn't cheap, with prices for the coupe starting at $148,395, including $1,995 for destination. If you want the convertible, that'll be $161,595. And don't worry, if this still isn't the perfect 911 spec for you, there will be many, many more coming in due time, no doubt.
