Happy owner
Was looking for a small SUV to replace an Audi Q5 to use around town. I drive an M5 and this is for my wife who loves it. It feels way more expensive then it’s fully optioned price if $49k. M Sport package is a game changer if you want something that is more BMW traditional then mainstream modern BMW. Uses tried and true drivetrain and is sharp in person. Highly recommended.

NOT the Ultimate Driving Machine
After owning 9 different BMW's, this is by far the worst car I have ever owned. The new IDrive 9 does not work. Despite the new touch screen being very dangerous, most of the system is poorly laid out and difficult to use. It's really an IT nightmare. Nice looking car that has been in the shop more than it's been in my garage. Suggest that market this as the Ultimate Driving Flop!

Save your sanity and money; buy a different car.
This is my 1st BMW (and 2nd German car -- the last was a Jetta) and will be my last. From the start, there have been issues, especially with the touchscreen; it's cumbersome and not even remotely user-friendly. There is no easy way to toggle from app to app without pressing buttons four+ times, which is quite annoying with the most basic features such as heating and cooling. Nothing is intuitive even though they claim it to be. With Sirius XM, you cannot save or delete stations and the "handy" next button near the gear shift only scrolls through each station, because (again) it won't let you save favorites. I have sat with two tech people for two hours each and they said, "I don't know why that is happening." Apparently that is considered good customer service. Additionally, some random Pandora stations are popping up, which I have never saved in my iPhone and cannot be deleted from my favorites screen(!!), which makes zero sense. Their response? "We don't know why that is happening." Again, terrific help. As another person noted, there is a lag with everything, whether turning the car on, accelerating, changing radio stations, rolling down the windows, and so forth. And to top this all off, the HomeLink garage function does not work and I have tried everything from watching YouTube videos, reading the owner's manual, and talking with a garage door person. It does nothing but blink that yellow/orange color and programs nothing. Even the remote start function is lousy as it doesn't let you set a predetermined temperature; it only acknowledges the setting for when you last shut off the car. Even my past two Hyundai's had programmable temperature choices with the remote start; how can a BMW not make that improvement? The car beeps with practically every movement except for the blindspot detection; it only flashes on the side mirror. How can that be called a safety feature and NOT have a warning sound? My Nissan's and Hyundai's had that functionality and a BMW doesn't? Last but not least, there is practically no interior storage (just look inside the center console if you want to get a good laugh). Overall car this is an embarrassment to the brand. Run, don't walk, from buying this car.

Loving it!
Wanted to get back to leasing but also wanted another BMW. This car replaced my 2015 BMW 328i (which I loved!). Loved the redesign job on this car both on the outside and inside. Comes extremely well equipped for the price- I only added the convenience package to mine. It’s much roomier than I expected and the engine and power are as expected from BMW. Definitely glad I made the switch.

Where'd all the money go exactly?
I had the displeasure of being "upgraded" to a base 2024 X1 while on a 2-week vacation to the Rockies, and all I can say is that it really made me appreciate my mid-spec Kia. The utter lack of luxury from this luxury-priced small SUV is simply staggering. It's been years since I've driven a BMW (a 3-series), but it's something I look back on fondly. That made my reentry into bimmer-land all the more shocking, as this thing is an embarrassment to Bavaria in every way, except perhaps its relatively planted/sporty feel on windy roads (plenty of those in Colorado). That being said, even that same confident sportiness is a double-edged sword in the X1, as the general ride quality suffers immensely for it; every minor bump, low speed or high, shudders through the suspension and into the well-bolstered-but-firm seats. Adding to the ride woes, the road noise is just abysmal -- I could even hear the sound difference passing over lane lines on the highway... Any bit of texture in the pavement and it's a sea of white noise in the cabin. Only good news there is that it covers up the lackluster soundsystem, which is mostly muddy/indistinct base, followed by middling mids and missing highs. One could probably adjust the EQ, but it's honestly bad enough I didn't bother. The rest of the vehicle is a mix of disappointment if not outright dysfunction. As others have noted, the wireless CarPlay/Android Auto constantly cuts out (tested with both my Pixel and wife's iPhone), reconnects, then cuts out, and on and on -- usually just when you need to go through a series of turns. The climate controls work, but they're hidden several taps deep in an on-screen menu; I thought my Niro's capacitive buttons were annoying, but this takes the cake. Not that it matters too much, as the heat was annoying in its own right: either not warm enough to notice or set to "sauna" mode. Add in other "little" issues like sluggish downshifts from the transmission, an auto start/stop that jerkily shutters the vehicle back to life several seconds after depressing the throttle, and a host of other small problems gets you to a user experience that verges on utter vexation day-to-day. Which is to say nothing of baffling oddities like the driving modes: it starts out sane enough with basic "sport" and "efficient" modes, but as you scroll further you get into things like "digital art" or "expressive" modes. The former literally just changes the base menu touchscreen background to a BMW-curated "art" screensaver (which you'd hardly ever see, except the CarPlay disconnects constantly, so maybe you will...), the latter I'll let the BMW owners manual cover: "Mode for impressive visualization and lively ambient lighting effects in the vehicle interior." Literally changes the LED strips -- that's it. Foolishly, I was hoping to find a "comfort" mode to soften the ride, but that's way more luxury than you can expect for $45K on a BMW. Finally, the lack of features for the money. I was astonished to learn that the vehicle I was driving listed at over $42K, no options checked. I wasn't expecting good value or anything with a BMW, but when I was test driving Toyotas, Hondas, and Kias this past year, nothing I sat in that broke $30K was devoid of adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, or the real luxuries, like adjustable lumbar support... The X1 **can** have any/all of those things, but only with a bevy of truly overpriced options checked ($250 for adjustable lumbar support -- not a joke). Good news is you get mirrors with little lamps that project the BMW log onto the ground by your feet (would love to know how much one of those costs to replace when someone smacks it on the street). Other "good" things are the auto lock/unlock when you have the key, and you know, when it works (often it doesn't). Mileage is decent for what it as (I average 30mpg), but given that it costs well more than a well-spec'd RAV4 Hybrid in AWD, it's still not impressive by any means. The standard heated seats and steering wheel are nice, but also sadly hidden behind the same annoying touchscreen interface as the climate control. Cargo space is "okay," but ultimately held less bags than the Camry I usually go with. It's just a truly underwhelming vehicle at an awful price. I hope it at least proves to be reliable for those who buy it...
