1995 BMW M3 2dr Coupe

Review perspective: home
mechanic/enthusiast. VERY EASY car to
maintain if you DIY (note: dealer
maintenance = expensive). The '95 is
the one to get (if you can find one
with low enough miles) because it's OBD
I. After '95, it's OBD II (harder to
retrieve fault codes for, more
expensive to mod power-wise). Known
issues: poor waterpump (aftermarket =
better); RTABs, rear shocks & RSMs may
be worn after only 50k miles if owner
drove hard; thermostat may stick open;
radiator neck. The M is more solidly
built than the regular 3 series. An M3
in "fair" shape may indicate abuse. The
M division built this car for one
purpose, and it wasn't for grocery

Best Features

Styling, power is decent, handles exceptionally well. There is a large online community that deals with everything from maintenance to upgrading to detailing your E36. (We are not allowed to post links here, though.)

Worst Features

US model has 240 hp, down 40-60 hp from Euro version, depending on the book you read (!!!). Also, the stock headlights are poorly designed. Thank goodness for the aftermarket.
