I have rationalized not getting a 3 series since test driving one before purchasing a TL a number of years ago. Instantly after driving the TL and 3 back to back I knew the 3 was a better car but I feared long term reliability. The TL didn't last long and was traded off and years went by before finding a clean 328xi auto with 88k on the odometer. I recognize that it will be far more expensive to repair than used accords that I was comparing but once you drive one it all seems worth it. These are solidly built cars not overly contaminated with gadgets or cup holders. One really starts to enjoy driving, which I haven't done for many years. The more you DIY the feasible owning seems.

Just over 1000 miles so far. This car wants to go without hesitation. Solid, connected to the road. A joy to drive. Almost as much fun to drive as my S2000.

I have had this car for two weeks now and absolutely love it. This car is solid, smooth, fast and of extremely high build quality. Handling is so stable and accurate. I have had two previous 3 series and this one blows them away. Its not a slow car, but its not a racer either. Put it in drive sport mode and it feels as fast as my G35 coupe I traded it in for. I do think it could use about 15 to 20 more ft/lbs of torque though. My past experience with BMWs is that they get much faster as they break in. The 2007 model has 15 more HP and ft/lbs torque than the 2006 model.

i won't drive another car after having had a Volvo and then a Saab. This IS driving. Super fun car but with the safety of size.

Many things shoppers should know about a 3 series BMW before purchasing one. All my adult like I have wanted a BMW, so last year I purchased a used one 2007 238xi. I have had many problems with this vehicle since I purchased it, and it has costed me over $2,000.00. I have had two recalls on this BMW, and the dealer told me that they do not know how to repair the recalls. I was told that as soon as they find a solution they would let me know. I have waiting for about six months and they have not call me yet. Gas mileage on this vehicle is very poor. Things that I had to have repaired is : Oil pan gaskets,windshield washer neck filler replaced, broken gas meter replaced ,transfer case motor replaced, radiator sensor replaced,and the replacement of the gas tank. I have purchased over ten used vehicles in my life time, this BMW is the worst car that I have ever owned. I have told family and friends not to purchase a BMW, its one of the worst cars on the market. I plan to get rid of my BMW ASAP.
