Fantastic out of the box for every day, but...
Absolutely gorgeous car. Fantastic out of the box for every day, but if you want to go fast the transmission isn't up to snuff. My 2009 Ralliart could go through the gears up or down, much faster than an S3??? My ralliart was tuned but even so, for a sub 50k luxury sedan the transmission was really the only disappointment. Downshifting takes a bit too long, enough where I sometimes blip 2 gears because I thought I did not hit the paddle hard enough. But really other than that, this is an amazing everyday vehicle. Don't bother racing or autocrossing unless you get a TCU tune.

CLA 45 AMG VS S3
I have actual electronic track times for my S3. 0 to 60 = 4.4 and 1/4 mile@ 12.9. Is this S3 a Bugatti Veyron 16.4 NO, but for the money its a great value. When we launch we all don't all do it exactly the same way. If anything I took it easy when I tested my S3 for the first time, as it only had 100 miles on it. The one thing I didn't notice which some have mentioned is a bit of turbo lag. None Here. The Mercedes CLA 45 AMG is a great car but its going to cost you 15Gs more to better the S3 times by only 0.3 0 to 60 and 0.3 in the 1/4. Top end on both cars is governed at 155mph. I would like to see them on the track.

Test Drive the S3 Hard, you will Love It
This is a high quality German engineered rocketship that other people see as a small sexy sedan. It’s more powerful and fun to drive then my 2001 911. Kicks a Jeep SRT’s ass, like it’s standing still. Can be driven conservitly as well. I would by this car again and again.

Sedan perfection!
This is a fun, practical, fast sporty and good liking vehicle. Always thrilled to drive it. Totally engaging and the best possible sedan for a driver anywhere near this price range.

Hard to find cars like this anymore - a pity!
Easy to drive, easy to own. I've got nearly 90k miles on my with very few complaints. I've modified mine quite a lot now but the base car still has all the goodness, and frankly so does the A3 Quattro with the s-line package. I just wish it was available with a manual transmission and without a sunroof that impinges for tall occupants. Pros - Fast (VERY fast with a few mods), fault free (safe) handling, easy to drive and looks good. Brakes surprisingly good even stock brakes on the race track. Cons - No homelink in a car this expensive? Seriously? No Manual trans, Some kind of annoying suspension rattle in the front that is common and hard to pin down. Doesn't affect driving but annoying. Common Vent director motor failure; not a huge deal to replace but annoying (center vents stopped working). Also as a racer, and despite many mods, handling is resolutely understeer at the limit unless you suddenly lift off - Not slow, but not a lot of joy at the race track unless you do minor mods and go drag racing instead of road racing, in which case its an easy 11 second car.
