Love my Audi A6

I just bought a new-to-me Audi A6, a 2018 model with 7,700 miles on it when I purchased it. It was in perfect condition when I bought it and after a thousand miles of driving, I'm very happy with my purchase. I pretty much love everything about the car and only have two minor complaints; (1) the interior compartment and storage space for miscellaneous thing seems a bit small to me an I wish the compartments were a bit bigger and (2) when you use Android Auto, your phone has to be connected to the car via a USB cable rather than connecting through bluetooth (like the native MMI system) which is somewhat inconvenient. Otherwise, I love the car and highly recommend it to others interested in a luxury sports sedan.

At 73,000 miles oil consumption shot up to 1 qt in 440 miles. Audi dealer no help, service advisor advised getting rid of the car as soon as possible. Any repairs would be very expensive and may not fix the problem. This is outrageous for an expensive, premium car. Also a shame because it still runs great, everything works and it looks good. I no longer own this car. Too bad. Update: now have 67,300 miles. At next service I will have inoperative driver’s seat heater and random-opening gas filler door fixed. Also, oil consumption has gotten bad, 1 quart every 1,000 to 1,500 miles. Dealer says Audi considers up to 1-quart/1,000 miles to be acceptable. Never had a modern car use oil like this. No apparent leaks, no smoking exhaust, so a mystery. Dealer says may be faulty PCV valve but replacement is $1,500 and no guarantee that would fix the problem. Bummer. Otherwise car performs well and feels solid as new. Appearance holding up well too. Update: just had 60,000 mile major service (about $1,000) — just routine expendable parts replacement. Original brakes still good. Everything still works as new, car looks great in and out. Now I like this Audi very much and intend to keep it a long time. Update: after 55K miles, no new problems and the car has been dead reliable. Normal maintenance and a set of tires have been the only expenses. Quality of materials is evident, as it still looks fresh and shows very little wear. Somewhat surprised at oil consumption, 1 quart every 8-9 K miles, but still within specs and the engine is an excellent performer. Car is holding up nicely. Update: car has proven reliable after 40k miles, everything still works and it has maintained its original performance and comfort. It still has the electronic peculiarities I dislike, but overall I’ve warmed up to this Audi. Several problems occurred upon delivery, like need to replace warped brake rotors, rep air vacuum leak, and splitting paint and rust along welded seam on roof. Also, problem with radio turning on by itself several times each time car is started - dealer cannot fix. Seats not very comfortable on long drives, despite being very adjustable. Brake feel is mushy and uncertain. Engine performance is excellent (3.0 L). Now there is a rattle somewhere in the underside that is annoying. I traded a 2008 A6 for this car, and although the ride and safety features have improved, I prefer the old one. Update: car has been reliable and performs well. However, the OE tires (Goodyears) started making noise at about 20k miles and needed to be replaced at 36k. And the over-abundance of electronic “features” is still annoying.

2017 A7 competition

I bought this after owning a 2014 A6, 4cyl. Premium plus. Not even in the same neighborhood this car versus my last. The styling is considerably nicer, S-line trim, red stitching on seat and steering wheel, red rotors. Yes it’s a sedan but it looks very different from a standard A6. I’ve had this car about 1 1/2 years, just 10k miles. Most miles on road trips, no snow. I’m in California. This is a great car for road trips, quiet, smooth, but the speed is there if you want it. Ok, not supposed to tell you this, took a road trip from LA to Phoenix last year, it’s will cruise quite nicely at 144mph, and gets there quite fast. The navigation is easy to use and works well. The heads up display is a nice touch at high speed driving, and shows destination navigation, doesn’t impede vision at all. And I got a combined 29.4 mpg to and from LA to Phoenix, at higher then posted speeds. And yes I was alone on a very long desolate stretch of road. It’s grips the road as though it’s glued to it. It’s exceedingly comfortable even on dynamic setting. Very minimal interior noise. Sound system is great, not exceptional. Plenty of room for four people to be comfortable. I haven’t had one issue, except it burned a quart of oil in the first 5k, and there’s no damn dipstick in the car. It’s on the MMI system. Other then that it’s been impeccable. If your looking for a car that’s well appointed, comfortable, exceptional options, fun to drive, in a used car and one becomes available I’d certainly consider this car. I plan on keeping this car at least another three years. Neither my last A6 or this one have had any mechanical issues at all. And no I don’t work for Audi I’m retired. It’s been three years, the car is the same as the day I bought it, zero mechanical issues. Not much to add except I still enjoy this car today as the day I bought it. I’ve looked at a new Audi A6, but not as impressed as much as this one. I’m religious with the servicing and take exception care of the interior and exterior. Four years in owning this car just hit 20k, obviously I don’t drive a great deal. The car has been serviced when required and all necessary servicing done each time. So far no issues at all, still rides great, all systems work as when it was purchased. I haven’t cared for the new models of the A-6, and the electric ones are quite steep in price. I plan on keeping this car until something goes wrong or I find a car I like as much as this one. The paint and interior are as nice as the day I bought it. It’s hard to beat this vehicle for the options, size, comfort, speed, and durability.

My 2018 A6 comapred to 2016 A6

The 2018 drives better. The ride and steering seems more connected. The car moves off from a stop quicker. Same suspension and 18" tires. The Apple Car Play and LED lights are an improvement. I now have driver assistance package with auto following cruise control, lane departure warning and auto collision avoidance. I am very pleased as I expected more of the same. S-line trim looks better too.

rear view camera (360) is soft low pixels with no adjustments. Stretched to fit a wider screen without the needed DPI. Cant make out a rear wall in low light. Very disappointed for a luxury auto to chintz on such a important safety feature.
