I previously drove a 2001 and 2002 C70 with 17 inch wheels. I lived in Kansas City and loved the way it handled in any type of weather. In Fall of 2006, I purchased a 2007 C70 and have had an expensive problem. My previous care was totaled and I needed a car fast. I had my heart set on the Volvo C70 and found one in San Diego (we now ... Read More
Hi, I just got a 2001 Volvo C70 convertible and had no issues for the first month or so. Went through car wash with no problems and I had no leaks until it started really rain around here! Now I have a leak on the passenger side. The glass window doesn't seem to 'seal' all the way (and I noticed a 'wind' sound while driving on the highway around 70mph on ... Read More
Local used car dealer (not a volvo dealer) has a '01 C 70 convertible on his lot. 46000 original miles, 1 owner, local car. Asking $14,000 for it. My quesiton is does anyone have an idea of what a timing belt job on that car might cost either at a Volvo dealership or a good independent mechanic? Car would be a summer toy for my wife. Never had a Volvo before, ... Read More
dmoniz, On the surface that seems high for a 2001, although it does have fairly low miles. I would get three reference points, if you haven't already: - price out the car on www.edmunds.com (need to know the options it's equipped with) - do the same at www.kbb.com (I forget which one is usually lower) - look at the C70's for sale on ebay motors - there are probably 30-40 C70's ... no problem... thank you.
Oh, my mistake! I keep missing the fact that this forum covers the 1st-gen C70 models, and is not just about the new (2006+) C70. My previous comment about rear-seat access was only relevant to the new C70. Sorry about providing misleading info.
thank you for your reply. when you say "switch" do you mean the lever on the right side of passenger chair or is there another switch that i've completely missed?? i guess i need to look at this car a little further! thank you again.
dahlia18, Yes, you have to hold down the switch on the top edge of the seat. I think this is basically a safety precaution, so that no one gets wedged in or squeezed by a seat that keeps moving on its own. It also lets the back seat passenger control the movement of the seat (moving back) until it is as far back as they can comfortably take it. (Even if ... Read More
thank you johnh7. i will look into that. one other question for you or anyone else that might know...my seats are automatic but when trying to move the passenger seat for people to get in/out of back, it seems like a hassle. my friend has an acura, and all he does is raise the arm on side and then it just takes off by itself. on mine, i've got to hold ... The sensor on one of the brakes may be bad and sending off a false signal. I experienced this on my old Audi A4.
I am a recent owner of a 2001 c70 and today while driving the car, I noticed that the instrument panel was displaying "disc" I tried to find it in the owners manual and I couldn't find anything. If anyone knows what this means, I would appreciate the feedback. It might just mean that I need new brakes?? But they were checked a few weeks ago and was told they looked ... Read More
I too have noticed that the rear brakes accumulate more dust than the front. I didn't think much of it, because before I bought the C70, I asked a friend who owned 2 previous volvos. He had the ?2001 C70, and now the XC90, and when asked what he thought about volvo and his cars, his only reply was the annoying accumulation of brake dust on his wheels. He didn't tell ... Read More
Me again - topless bison. Thanks for the comments on the windscreen and gasoline. I haven't plunked down the $$ yet for the windscreen, but likely will thanks to your feedback. :) And I've decided to compromise and put midrange gas in the C70 and have enjoyed good performance so far. OK, here's my question. My 2001 C70 HPT has no Volvo nameplate on the trunk. Does anyone know if there ... Read More
my 1998 volvo c70 is a nightmare. it is my very first automobile and i leased it from a used car lot in 2001 with 60k miles on it. since then ive put 25k miles on it and had nothing but problems with it. the service engine light has been on since i got the car, noone has been able to turn it off (i didnt take it to a volvo ... Schuhc...and anyone else thinking about this. First off, don't worry....I'm definitely not buying anything yet until I get this mystery solved. Here's what I just found out: I drove my car down to the dealership this afternoon. I must have had 5 or 6 guys looking at it from parts,service,sales..even the manager. Nobody gave me a straight answer as to the name of the wood AND why I had it. We ... Read More
I have a 2001 C70 coupe 31,000 miles/nautic blue/tan interior/sunroof/dolby surround 3 CD player/5 speed manual that I just love. It's leased and the lease is expiring in May 2004. I don't really like much out there right now and I really love my car. The only problem I've had was that when I went throug the car wash water leaked through the passenger side door seal. The dealer fixed it ... Read More
Am looking at used C70 Convertibles, specifically 2000 and 2001. Any words of wisdom besides checking service records, etc? I know Volvos have a high life expectancy. Should I consider a C70 with 70K in miles? Thanks
Just looking through edmunds own overviews - New for 1999: This year, buyers of both coupe and convertible models will enjoy standard interior enhancements that include a leather steering wheel, redesigned interior light switches, 130-mph speed limiter, front fender turn indicators and red walnut dash trim in place of last year's black wood. A new 17-inch alloy wheel option is available in 1999 for both coupes and convertibles. The coupe also ... Read More
No Volvo loaners? My father has a 2001 C70 and he ALWAYS gets a Volvo as a loaner car. What is up with the dealership you are taking it to? Not good! Also, I am an auto broker and I just got a 99 Volvo C70 LPT Conv. here for sale. 30K miles, Dark Blue/Silver/Blue Top and we want $31,995 for the vehicle. We are in Southern California. Obi
You'd need a head-check to buy a new one and a fix-up list if you bought second hand after reading this: "Volvo promises action after German breakdown survey Volvo's reputation for producing reliable cars has been hit by a survey of a 1.6 million breakdowns. The report, which documents cars which broke down on German motorways last year, places Volvo in fourth position for having the most breakdowns. The only cars ... Read More
I started with a S40 T-4 manual (200 hp - HPT). It was a fantastic car. Then we had 2 babies and we needed something bigger and got a 99 S70 (HPT). What a car. So much fun for a daddy. Reliable, secure and fast. Than I met C70 T-5 (HPT). It was as sexy as it could be. After a test drive I decided to get it and kept our ... Read More
The wind noise with the top up is almost unbearable especially at speeds over 40 mph.. I've had it checked twice by the dealer and he tells me that it's a "design problem" and nothing can be done. My gut is that it's a problem with my car as opposed to all of the convertibles. Has anyone had a similar experience?
Sorry... but no, the Coupe far exceeds the Convertible for handling, with a stiffer body shell, there is far less scuttle. The two can't be compared on winding roads ( not that there are many of those in the Memphis area!) Have Volvo deleted the LPT model for 2001? Seems strange, although their whole Marketing/pricing policy for C70s seems to be up the Suwanee... My 2000 Coupe is loaded, deliverd from ... Read More
Haven't owned a Volvo for 25+ years but am now considering the C70 convertible -- hate to give up the Miata but really need more than 2 seats and a little more comfort wouldn't hurt....found a 2000 C70 HPT convertible with just about every available option and just over 1700 miles. Dealer's wife's car who now drives the 2001 version...Don't need all the options and wouldn't get them if I were ... Read More
Does anyone know anything about production problems with the Volvo C70 Convertible for 2001. I have heard that a dispute between Volvo (which builds the bottom of the car) and another vendor (which builds the top of the car) has held up production. Very few are available for delivery in 2000. There are usually quality problems associated with such a dispute. Any insights?
Do you know what new changes are in store for the 2001 C70, convertible? Or where I might find out? The new pricing and specs aren't up yet at the Volovo site. I'm trying to decide if I should just wait for the 2001, you mentioned earlier that the price was a little lower. Thanks so much for all your wise and generous wisdom. Pinky
Hi, Does anyone know how long I will have to wait for a 2001 Volvo C70 HP coupe. Thanks in advance, Erik
Hi. I'm new to the list and very impressed with the knowledge and civility of the participants having just reviewed the postings about the Volvo C70 since the beginning of this year. Unless my wife surprises me when we compare the C70 to the Saab 9-5 on the road I expect we'll be C70 owners sometime soon. The car will be used mostly for 2-3 hour highway cruises, but will definitely ... Read More
Hi, Does anyone know whether Volvo offers the Navigation equipement with the 2001 C70 coupe. I remember reading a magazine article saying that you can get the navigation equipement but you can't have the Pro Logic system as the Navigation LCd is placed where the center speaker is. Thanks
Earlier today I dropped by a local dealer and they actually had some information on the 2001 C70. According to the sales person: 1. No LT coupe in 2001 - only HT. 2. No price increase on HT coupe or LT/HT convertibles. 3. 2001's will be on their lot by the end of July. I drove the LT convertible for the first time and I was mildly impressed. I was surprised ... This has been a common complaint amongst the salesmen at our dealership. They think the answer is to balance the tires. What we've finally concluded is that these cars are sitting for too long on the lot and are actually flat-spotting the tires. So many times we will have to put a new set of tires on a brand new car. Don't let a salesman tell you it's normal, because it's ... Read More
dolamite, It seems we have similar tastes. I have been salivating over the C70 since its inception. For me the only obstacle is cost. Currently I drive a 97 Maxima SE. It is a very quick car, but I am also yearning for something a bit more stylish. I am also considering the new 2001 Acura CL-S. I suggest you look at it, and take it out for a spin. I ... Read More
