I just purchased a 1990 VW GTI, and I would like to know if any body can tell me some descent mods I can perform to add more horse power and speed. The car is in good shape with no major mechanical issues. It has a 1.8 litre 8v engine and is the sport model.
My personal preference are for car that aren't stuffed full of extra weight. A VW-specialty. There are some great German cars, but VW doesn't make any of them. (Audi excluded) If you haven't noticed, pretty much all cars are laden down pretty heavily: my VW Sirocco weighed 2300lbs, but I wouldn't want to have an accident in it...by today's standards, its a thin tin can. Compared to the SI or any Honda except the passport. There is no mainstream publication or source that would place the VW reliability above Hondas. And as far as resale you've got to be kidding. But no point going over that again.
