I've had 6 different Mercedes cars including new, this is my first "S" Class. I've been chasing a phantom ASR issue with this car since day one. Very high service costs, even at an independent and brutally bad gas mileage (<12) make this car better suited for the demo derby.

I've always had a Honda or Toyota so I didn't think I'd fall for another model, but I love this Mercedes. Although it is 17 years old, you would never know it. The appearance is timeless!

Still rides and looks brand new. Very nice ride . Low score is fuel mileage. Only gets 10-16 mpg. Transmission slips between first and 2nd. Has 200k on it. Great auto for 16 years old.

Bought it used from a dealer with 35,000 miles. I've been happy with the thing since we started. Keep V rated tires on it for intended performance. Now it cost about $2,000/yr in maintenance, but that's cheaper than a new one. The power is great and handling supurb.

To pay $19k for a car that was over 60k and get over 5 yrs and 100k - with about $5k total in maintenence is a good deal. Still runs like a champ at 184,500 miles - you gotta take care of it.

WOW - What a completely thrilling
driver. This little car packs a most
excellent punch. I am absolutely
satisfied with the handling of the
vehicle, almost like a sports car.
With 140,000 on the clock the vehicle
is as tight as most new vehicles. All
round excellent vehicle, great for
road trips ... very comfy.

I bought this car with 77K miles on it
after my 1986 300E was hit from behind
at 45 MPH by a Ford Explorer ( lady
picking up toy on passenger side floor
for child in car seat) The 300 folded
nicely and after a year of PT I bought
the 400. I have very much enjoyed the
car. The only issues that really was
bad is the wiring harness on the engine
was a little to "enviromentally
friendly" and literally started
breaking down in operation. It was a 1K
replacement with replacement and the
90K mile service. Make sure this was
already done if you buy one - or ask
for a discount because it NEEDS to be
done now!

This is basically a 300E with the power
of a V-8. When driving at 80mph on the
freeway, the engine is only at 2400 rpm's.
It moves and handles well.
