Hope you fixed it but if you didn't.... The problem may be in two places. The first and easiet is the manifold located on the left side facing the engine. It is located to the right of the black box. One line goes through the firewall, one goes down, and one goes across the top of the engine. In my case, mine was badly worn on the down part and the ... Read More
Cant do a pic, as I would have to remove the upper air filter cover, and air intake, which requires what I mentioned before, just to take a pic. Snap up the 2 clasps for the air filter, loosen the 2 hose clamps, unplug the 2 electrical connectors, and remove this assembly. The broken end of this plastic vacuum line, runs over top of the rad hose, and underneath, what you ... Read More
Thanks for your reply. Can you give me a little more info on what I am feeling around for? A pic would be great.
Sorry about long reply. Have been away from puter, for awhile. The other end goes off to your right, under the air intake, and across the top of the engine, on the driver's side. You almost have to reach inside there and feel around for it. I found loosening the 2 air intake clamps, unplugging the connectors, and removing the intake, made it easier to repair the line.
Thanks for your reply. I do see a broken vacuum line as you describe but where is it connected too?? Their is a couple lines coming through the fire wall and the broken one is attached to like a 90 degree ell but where is the other end???
I can tell you exactly what the problem is, as I have fixed this on, 3 seperate work vans. It's a broken plastic vacuum line. If you lift the hood, and look just above the alternator, you should find it. I just usually get a 12" piece of 1/8" rubber vacuum hose, from Napa, break out the brittle section of plastic, and use the rubber line, to rejoin.
No matter which position I set my air control knob air only comes out the defrost vent of wind shield. Also when I move air control knob to MAX A/C blower motor does not increase speed. Hope someone can give me some help on this issue and maybe someone has a vacuum diagram they could email me.
Lemmer, Can you email me a copy of the vacuum system that you have for the GMC 2000 Safari? jjrudy65@aol.com
I have a 2000 GMC Safari and I have searched a very long time to find a vacuum diagram for my vehicle. I found one that was close but had a few extra parts my vehicle did not have. My local transmission specialst tells me that ALL GM van transmissions run hot. Especially within the Safari/Astro design - that doesn't reflect the wind very well (compared to today's smaller mini-vans). He recommends ATF aux cooler (LPD Design) be installed in all Safari / Astro vans - even non-towing vans. For example, Hayden 678 or 679 LPD design. re: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HDA-678/ If wondering, I installed Hayden 679 in my prev AWD Safari ... Read More
lines to the radiator are to hot to touch, could this be a result of a plugged line , if so how would you go about unplugging the line

i have recently changed my trans. and just drove it 300 miles 2 day ago everything went smooth then today drove home it seemed ok but when i popped my hood i had tranni fluid all over place took it to car wash came home and cant get it to leak it still has plenty of fluid in it but wont leak any ideas
Need help 2000 GMC Safari Steering wheel has locked up and Ignition key will not turn to start engin. How do I unlock.I believethe answer is in owners manual which I lost in a breakin last year. Any sugestions.
I had this same problem. I ended up changing the coil and the ignition module and it fixed the problem. As soon as it was damp outside if wouldn't start. I hope this will fix yours.
I would check for a bent exhaust pipe, my wife caught my tail pipe backing out of my driveway in all that snow and tore it off. If it had bent it,it would not have run right or at all. If you have fire intermittently at the distributor it also could be a bad wire on the coil that's not getting a good connection. I just replaced one on my motor ... Read More
Sounds like you have spent a lot of time and money. Have you put any "dry gas" in it? Moisture / dampness could be the problem. Good luck.

My 2000 GMC Safari had the same problem, The dealer replaced the Crank Sensor and found wires in the bundle that had heated up and fused themselves together. However, after over $1500 in money paid to the dealer, when they restored the spark, they found that that the Autozone Spark plug wires, when sprayed with a water mist while the motor was running, lit up like a christmas tree. Thanks for your concern.... For your records, there's a known problem with the ABS system on the Astro/Safari vans. There's an official TSB but NO recall. Still amazes me why no formal recall. Im having trouble removing fuel lines for GMC Safari pass. Van Yr.2000 do i need a certin tool or equipment.
I purchased my second GMC Safari Van, July of 2004. At the time, it only had 54,000 miles on it. A few weeks after I began driving it, I could not get it to shift into "park". I was told the bolts on the transmission were loose, and had it fixed. At 97,000 miles, I made a 1000 mile trip, to check on my 91 yr. old Mother who was not ... Read More

I have a similar problem with my 2000 Chevy Astro van. What I found to be the problem was a broken door jam switch on my sliding door. It's the spring loaded plastic thing that the door pushes in when you close the sliding door. Hopefully, your problem won't be any more complex than this. Whatever the outcome, keep us posted. These are great vans. Mine has 134,000 miles on it. ... Read More
You might want to check the main wiring bulkhead that sits behind the battery on the firewall, the main ignition wire is in this and it pulls so much power it sometimes melts and gets a bad connection where it plugs in the firewall for the fuse box. I have a 1998 GMC Safari that lost oil pressure on the burlington skyway bridge in ontario (probably the worst place in Ontario to break down!) Hello, My 2000 GMC Safari is very difficult to start. If it is jumped or if the battery charger is on it, it starts easily. It starts best usually if you just bump the starter. I have a 2000 gmc safari. Every once in awhile, it goes crazy and the compass will show us going in "C". This does not change as we change our direction. Also, even when it is warm out, sometimes the temp shows as "ICE". It happens infrequently, but when it decides to act up, it is like that for a few days. Does anyone know what could be wrong?
I've fixed this problem before by fixing a vacuum line on the intake manifold that goes to your ac.
I just bought a 2000 GMC Safari,I have replace the Engine oil as well transmition flush, now i feel while the transmition is shifting it's like stop for a second and after that is shifting. Anybody has an Advise. Tanks.
Thank you but I had it replaced & rerouted a while back. When that small vacuum line got brittle with engine heat & age, it just disintegrated in many pieces. Splicing was not an option in my case.
under the front hood remove the air box and u can see the small hard vacuum line where it has been damaged. One inch of rubber hose can connect the ends and a/c will return to blowing out every vent.
Hi, tmiddleton, Try asking the folks in our Maintenance & Repair Forum -- there are two discussions there -- Maintenance & Repair Costs and Fuel Systems Maintenance/Repair that might be helpful.
I have no experience with Pep Boys but it sounded like one of those chain stores that employs high pressure sales reps. From what you've described, I won't let them touch my van with a ten foot pole. I believe the main cause for your cut-out is either no fuel or no spark but not a combination of both. If your fuel filter is not badly plugged, which can be tested ... Read More
Hi, today my Safari just cut out on me while I was driving. I towed it to Pep Boys and they said that I have no fuel pressure and not enough sparks. There're lots of discussions on this subject on recent posts. What eharston posted is correct except that the entire job can be done from under the hood. It is a bigger job to remove the dog house than the actual repair. I found it out the hard way. You don't want to mess around with it.
I just fixed this same problem on my 2000 Astro last night. The vent system is vacuum operated and a vacuum leak will cause the symptom you have described. The most common cause on the Astro/Safari is a cracked vacuum line that runs across the top of the motor towards the front. The vacuum line is exposed to high heat continually and gets brittle and begins to crack in numerous places. ... Read More
My air-conditioning quit blowing out into the cab low to high in Max A/C, A/C, or vent mode. Defroster works (blows cold air). Rear A/C works (I understand they are two different systems).
