The stock compression spec on the 3 cylinder Metro is 195 psi. The MINIMUM factory limit is 165 psi. When the highest 2 cylinders have 120 psi and the remaining cylinder has 60 psi and the engine consumes a quart of oil every 75 miles and shoots vapor out the plug opening when cranked; this is not caused by burned valves. My oh my!!! Another Metro with a junk engine bought because the compression was never checked. WHEN WILL PEOPLE LEARN??? The stock compression on a 3 cylinder Metro is 195 PSI. Beginning in 1996; the 1.0 liter Metro was equipped with a crankshaft position sensor. This non adjustable device sends an electronic timing signal to the ignition system to control the ignition timing. So in this model, there is no way to adjust the timing. Save your money on the SeaFoam- it will make it worse, and it is only kerosene with some detergent in it. The oil is coming in to the air filter housing through your PCV valve, probably due to worn rings. It is also possible that it is worn valve guides. Or both. Ah the down side to owning a Geo! My mechanic sent me out in search of this part and junk yards seem to work best for the smaller components. Does any one have advise on who might have this part? My 1996 Metro window regulator failed at 125K. Well, it was a bar night, so I was probably more forceful than usual. Finding parts...if you're lucky enough to find them in a junkyard like I did. 1996 Geo Metro only fires one time on each try. Engine will fire one time each time the key is cycled. Will do it as long as I want to keep trying. I also had this problem with my 1996 Geo Metro and it only had about 76,000 miles on it. I ended up purchasing a NEW regulator off ebay. Just type in Geo Metro door regulator and you should be good to go. Crystal California

What state do you live in ? There are many still on the road, and an equal amount in junkyard and re-cycle shops. I have a 1995, a 1996,1997 and a roll over for spare parts(1996) Calif and Canadian emmissions may play into a issue with engine swap outs- as the exhausts systems are different. Suzuki made Suzuki SWIFT which is identical vehicle also. Good luck

I own a 1995,1996, 1997 (2) Geo Metro's...all have composite headlights. That is the clear plastic lenses, not sealed beams. OH, but you are so wrong! There is a special Califoria emmission manifold. How well I know. I have a 1997 Geo Metro with that exact manifold. BUT , I used a standard manifold, took it to a qualified exhaust shop, and had the pipe welded onto the exhaust end of the manifold. It is the only reasonable solution. I have replaced the clutch, an axle and now the tensioner for the timing belt. I have done this for other cars and it was a 8th the cost of this supposedly cheaper car.My none GM mechanical who is supposedly "honest" charged me $285 for a tensioner. Is this bogus...?
