Chrysler Minivan Transmission Problems

  • 2000 Chrysler Grand Voyager Trans Problems

    Written by: osu1986 on Aug 28, 2010 2:29:05 PM

Last night, we came to a stop at a stop sign and it popped out of drive. A couple of secs later, it went back in on its own. This happened twice. We are afraid to drive it now as I work 20 miles from home. When we got home, I checked the trans fluid and it looked dirty but it did not smell bad. What do you think?

Grand Voyager EPA mpg incorrect on wwwfueleconomy.gov for Cash for Clunkers

  • Re: Grand Voyager/Caravan mpg wrong on wwwfueleconomy.gov for Cash for [xwe

xwesx--this is concernng the 6 cyl 3.3L engine FWD Grand Caravans from the yr 2000. All other 3.3 L FWD Gr Caras qualify because they are shown at 18 mpg. 3.8 L Gr Caras qualify because they have larger engines and tested at 18 mpg. The 1996-2000 minivans (within their engine sizes) are all twins of each other (except for minor tweaks in options, colors etc), being the "third generation." So ... Read More

www.fueleconomy.gov doesn't list the Grand Voyager/Grand Caravan separately from the Voyager/Caravan. This affects whether certain years, such as the 2000, would qualify for Cash for Clunkers. The website lists Voyagers/Caravans as having combined EPA mpg of 19, but the 2000 Grand Voyager/Grand Caravan is a twin of the 2000 Town and Country, and has a combined EPA mpg of 18, so it would qualify, if only the government and Chrysler would ... Tom 166. I have a 2007 Chrysler Town & Country van (similar to your Dodge van). Had software updated, low gear replaced, etc. Rides a little bit better but problem still there. Mechanics say there is nothing wrong per computer. No lights in van indicating anything wrong. I can feel the van shifting from one gear to the next. Service manager said to come back if the problem still exist. Unfortunately ... Read More

I have two Chrysler minivans, a 2000 T&C and a 2002 Voyager. The torque converter went bad on the T&C at 80,000 miles. Today the same thing happened to the Voyager (56,500 miles), which is currently in the shop under warranty for a transmission rebuild. Symptoms before torque converter failure (on both vans) were what you describe. Clunking for a while, which later developed into slipping, finally no forward or reverse. ... Read More

Hi there hoping someone can help me - chrysler grand voyager year 2000. I've been told I need to reset the electrical trip for the automatic door locking and the heated seats - all quit working after needing to disconnect the battery. The dealers in the UK charge crazy rates just for having a look. Thanks Lisa x

A Voyager is a nice vehicle but never had the "luxury" (or snob?) appeal of Town & Country just as Plymouth was never perceived to be an upscale sedan like Chrysler was for decades before the K cars were introduced.      When I looked at the 2002 Kia Sedona EX it appeared on the surface as luxurious and about the size of the 2002 Chrysler Voyager. However, a closer comparison showed that ... Read More

  • 2000 CHRYLER GRND VOYAGER TRANMISSION ISSUE

    Written by: good_van on Nov 26, 2004 7:02:19 PM

I bought a 2000 Chryler Grand Voyager SE in March, 2004 from a private party. The van was running well all these days except this winter when it started giving problems. I noticed a big sound from the bottom when I backed up the van in a cold morning. I warmed up for a few minutes and then it was OK. I started warming up the van for atleast 5 minutes ... Read More

Only one DC minivan has had transmission failure of the many owned by people I know. That was a 1996 T&C LXi used to tow a large trailer all the time and the transmission failed at 180,000 miles.      Meanwhile, 3 sisters in a family I know had purchased Ford Taurus. The 1990 Taurus transmission failed at just over 100,000 miles, the 1993 Taurus transmission failed at 115,000 miles and most recently ... Read More

  • Sales question

OK, I have a question..... I'm in the market; looking very seriously at D-C minivans. I've pretty much ruled-out 2000 vans (see previous post), but I am trying to keep the cost down. I'm waiting to see if D-C sweetens their incentives next week. I think so anyway. But, I have a question, and perhaps those of you who watch things mini van will be knowledgeable in this area. Especially dealer-related ... Read More

  • LOVE Chrysler vans!

Well I don't know of ANYBODY, personally, who have ever had to replace the transmission in their Chrysler minivan. I have owned 4, two 89 Grand voyagers, a 93 Caravan sport all with 3.0 and 4 speed autos and now a 2000 3.8 AWD. My brother owns a 96 Grand Voyager CDN model with the 3.8. My brother in law has had two, a 89 and a 90 Grand Caravan. And ... Read More

  • HELP! Need Plymouth GV Owner's Manual!

Written by: blacksmithn on Jan 27, 2001 6:24:30 AM

Help, please! I traded in my lemon of a 1997 Plymouth Grand Voyager and left the owner's manual in the car. I need the manual, because I'm suing DC in Small Claims for reimbursement of the $2000 I had to spend fixing the transmission. Copies are okay! I'll gladly reimburse cost of copying or postage. For those who're interested, here's my tale of woe-- bought a 97 GV brand new from ... Read More

  • The woes of a '91 GV

Written by: parkview on Dec 9, 2000 6:36:20 AM

We purchased a 91 Grand Voyager with 7000 miles on it in 1992. It had the largest V-6 engine available at that time and the automatic transmission. At about 40,000 miles, the transmission began to shift all by itself at highway speed, usually shifting down. I would be in cruise at 55 mph straight line, with no reason to shift. After several trips to the dealer and several stories about some ... Read More
