Thanks for your concern.... For your records, there's a known problem with the ABS system on the Astro/Safari vans. There's an official TSB but NO recall. Still amazes me why no formal recall. For details.... Bottom line is... Defector sensor (which needs to be replaced) or the existing sensor is too "rusted up" to work properly... ----------------- .... Basically, dirty sensor mounting surfaces cause the signal to drop out at low ... Read More
Hi Smithy from Pittsburgh here. Photographer and musician. I drive a 2000 Astro. It's been to the Grand Canyon,Up Mt Washington in NH, Here's my oldest son taking it up our hill Recently my Darling Daughter put me in charge of repairs on her 2002 venture.
I bought a 2000 awd Astro 2 years back. Good handling in Pennsylvania weather but have problems with ABS brake system. Pull ABS fuse and brakes work well. A mechanic said it was a sensor problem but I just had a similar problem with my 2002 Chevy Blazer and they replaced the computer board. I think I'd suggest looking at something else. When mfg. don't correct problems year after year or ... Read More

Got my wife the 2002 Venture and we love it. Like all Chevy products, you get a lot of car for not much money. Although it doesn't have the HP of say a Honda Odyssey, it's lighter and more agile, so it can more than hold it's own. Plus, it came with a ton of features (drivers' and pass. sliding doors), auto pass sliding door, On-Star, CD player, etc. We will ... Read More

I've purchased my first Astro -- a 2002 model. It's a Pewter LS with trailer package (including the 3.73 rear end), front and rear air/heat, dutch doors, keyless entry, cassette/radio/cd, etc. List -- $28,100, purchase price $20,400. It was used slightly by the administration for the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics (2200 miles on vehicle). It's in excellent/new shape. I've been evaluating vans now for over a year, and currently own ... Read More
I just bought a 2002 AWD Astro. This is my second Astro, and I feel that "Bang for the Buck" they're hard to beat. I'm real happy with the 02, especially the ride. I do have one complaint though. I am having trouble with a carpet defect as you'll find in my postings in "Chevrolet Van Owners: Problems and Solutions", and also in the "Dealer and Service Experiences" discussions. THANKS for ... Late last or early this year POPULAR SCIENCE magazine ran a 5 year automotive preview. It indicated that a redesign for the Astro / Safari is due for the 2002 or 2003 model year. Since the vans are based largely on the mechanicals of the Chevy S-10 pickup, it seems likely that you'll see a new S-10 before a new Astro / Safari.
