A friend of mine was driving towards a stoplight and the brake pedal went to the floor on his 1996 Buick Century. Pumping gave only partial rear braking. He hobbled to my house (during which the brakes worked normally the whole way). We pulled the driver side tire and discovered that the fibrous finely woven tube cover (fiberglass?) to the extremely thin and fragile wire to ABS sensor looked burnt. Cutting ... Read More

If Diesel engine, do not do this, or check approval for use if new diesel engine. May not be approved for rotary or diesel engines. Check owner manual first. Check it out first! I just want to say that we switched to all synthetic oil, and cannot believe the difference in the mileage and overall performance of our car (1996 Century.) I believe this applies to all vehicles, except diesels and ... Read More

Hi! I bought a 1996 Buick Century awhile back. Had 77,000 miles on it when I purchased it. Has a 3.1L V6 in it, and it's got most all the options you could get (less leather seats/cd player/aluminum wheels) This being the first front wheel drive, fuel injected car I've ever owned, I'm very pleased with this car. It rides good, handles well and that V6 churns out more ponies than ... Read More

I just checked out the sticker on a new 2001 Century and realized there is no longer a Special model. From 1992 to 1996 it was a basic Century, about $1000 cheaper than a Custom, with more limited options. They could take the Century Custom, lose power windows and locks, give it a plain AM-FM radio, use thinner carpet, cheaper tires, maybe the 2.4L 4-cylinder, and have a $17,000 Century to ... I am new to Edmunds and while reviewing topics I saw alot of comments about the Century that I totally disagree with. Granted every has different likes and dislikes and every vehicle made is not always the same even if they are the same model. I just purchased my Father-in-laws 1996 Buick Century (a deal I could not refuse). It is in perfect shape with only 55K miles. He wanted a ... Read More
