I have owned multiple VW Models from GTI and currently own a 2017 Passat, 2013 CC and now the 2018 Tiguan. I gave the 2013 CC to my son as he got his license and to be honest the CC has a stage 2 tune and cannot be compared to the other cars. The 1.8T in the Passat has better performance than the 2.0T in the Tiguan, but the CC just seems to be built better and not sure whether it came from Germany is the reason rather than the plant in Tennessee. I do the like the space that the Tiguan has and great for carrying people and golf stuff and it rides very smooth. The computer is telling me that I need an oil change already in 12 days. Did VW switch to every 5000 miles instead of 10,000. I have always had great service from VW of Fort Myers and they take very good care of me and my cars and the plus with the Tiguan is the long warranty.

First SUV, a bit disappointed by material quality

This is our first SUV and wife fell in love with it on first sight. Wish we had had a chance to test drive the Mazda as I had originally planned. But after reading others' reviews I don't think we made a mistake choosing this over the Mazda (we own a 2017 Mazda 3 which I truly enjoy). We chose the base S model trim level. My only complaints: slow acceleration from a stop, but adequate power to pass. Cheap quality of the cloth material used on the seats (they, like our previous Mazda with similar material) which will stain pretty easily. But I can overlook that If I can find good quality seat covers when the time comes. Since this model comes with the 3rd row seats I can say it should only be used for kids or the family (small) dog; just not enough head or leg room back there. Biggest complaint: really a chore to move the manual seats, front or middle ones. Seems like the seats rails are oiled with tar. Overall: I am happy with it as a family car and since we will use it mostly on our long family vacation trips (1000 mi or more typically), this will fit nicely for comfort, roominess, economy, technology (Appleplay and Android Auto, etc) and safety. The coup d'etat was the 6yr/72000 mi. warranty which tipped the balance for the VW over the other SUVs that I considered.

Leased in Jan 2018 and I have had no real issues. Couple of minor recalls that were fixed in about an hour. Car is at 13,000 miles now. I keep the transmission in 'S' mode for faster shifts and acceleration. MPG is just ok, not great. Its crazy to read all these reviews about cars having so many issues. I honestly have none of these issues. If car can stay issues free I will be stepping up to an SE in 2021. UPDATE: 1/18/2020, Car is still going strong. No issues to date. Currently at 18k miles. Still looking foward to trading it in for an SE at the end of my lease. UPDATE 7/11/2020: So a couple of issues have happened. 1. Started getting a transmission warning light (Trans Emergency-Safe To Drive ⚠️) dealer said shift knob needs to be replaced?. 2. E brake switch has broken, needs to be replaced. 3. Black plastic bumper has come unclipped from rear drivers side. Dealer said they won’t fix. Taking car in this week to get repairs. Other than that no mechanical issues. Car is at 22,500 miles. Lease is up in Jan 2021, not sure if keeping it or moving on to Honda CR-V or Passport?

RUN Away From This Vehicle

The hesitation in acceleration from stop to go or in merging or changing lanes is scary and downright dangerous. Acceleration just does not happen for 2-3 seconds! I nearly got smashed by an 18 wheeler coming off an Interstate ramp because the Tiguan did not have the acceleration when I tried to accelerate. While you can turn off the "Start - Stop System" for energy conservation every time you start the vehicle, it gives little added go power. This switch should be called a "suicide switch". You leave it on you will die. This SUV just does not have any acceleration. A couple of good things I can say, it is roomy for a smaller SUV and when you reach highway speed, it handles pretty well. I have leased this for 4 years and have a miserable 3.5 years to go. It is such a disappointment.

Regret it every time I look at it.

I was such an idiot... I had a beautiful paid off - 2014 Nissan Maxima with 36K miles on it. For some reason I got a wild hair to trade towards the Tiguan. I hate myself for it now. Yeah, I got a great trade-in value towards the Tig - but what was the real cost? 1. It's not reliable - the motor has cut out while driving twice now. 2. You can make a quick turn or merge into traffic with any sort of confidence. The car has a terrible lag whether it be the motor or transmission - it's dangerous. 3. Recalls out the wahzoo! I've had 5 of the total 9 this model has had. 4. Washer Fluid! Yes, you heard me right! Washer fluid. I've owned the car for almost two years and I've put 23 or more jugs of washer fluid. I'll say this tho... I love how it looks and it's fairly comfortable. I've heard some people have had zero issues. I've also heard from plenty of folks who regret it as much as I do. I would tell you to steer clear but maybe you won't get a lemon.
