I bought this car in March of 2006 in Anchorage for touring around the state, and we love this car. In 4 years, we performed the recommended maintenance and put fuel in it, with no issues! Driving around 55-60 mph on the highways around Anchorage, we averaged 47-50 mpg. When we shipped it to Seattle and then drove it back to Texas, we average 48 mpg at 75 mph and then 46 mpg at 80-85 mph (on I-10 through West Texas). I made it from Gilbert, AZ to Fort Stockton, TX on a single tank of fuel driving 80 mph most of the way!

I recently traded in my Volkswagen R32 for the brand new Jetta GLI in Nov mainly because of the fuel economy. I would say the GLI is worth every dime you pay for it. My brother owns an Audi A3. It is exactly like driving the A3 when you drive the GLI. Although I enjoy driving the R32 better than the GLI, I would highly recommand people get the 2006 GLI. It has great handling, acceleration, interior, seats and so forth.

From the radio & power window buttons peeling off to the worst designed tire jack I've seen, these cars are garbage. Volkswagen may make some sporty cars, but beyond the looks they are a big piece of crap. If you're looking for a reliable car keep looking but if you'd like to drive a hunk of junk buy a VW. Never again will I waste money on a German car.

I bought the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta GLI primarily because of the DSG transmission. This is our second car and my wife really does not want to deal with a manual trans. On the surface the DSG was a good compromise. However in reality there is no compromise. It is faster than a manual, gets better gas mileage and just as much fun (assuming your left leg doesn't mind acting as a support rather than operating the clutch). This transmission is what every transmission should be...a wonderful automatic with full and instantaneous control. The engine is wonderful too. The combination is fantasic. I bought the GLI because you could not get this combo from Audi in a sedan. The rest of the car is excellent as well.
