Best Car for the Price
I bought this car after my last lease (99 Z24 Cavalier) expired. I have driven tonns of cars in the past and really researched the market before I bought this car. Drives and performs like a dream and so far (knock on the wood) "Kein Problem!". Highly recommended for anyone looking for serious value for the money.
Paid off early & driving it till it dies
This was my first "new car." Beyond paying too much for it, the car eats oil on the order of 1qt every 3- 4k. "It's designed that way." is the best description multiple VW dealerships around the country say, and is echoed by the national reps even after putting synthetic in it from day one at the recommended intervals (10k). I add & monitor it every 3-4 times I fill up. After 150k it has a unique "drone" at the 3800 RPM. My repairs have been the standard wear items (brakes, timing belt, CV boot). The car requires unique VW tools to do some of the most basic jobs (like rear brakes). Several recall items - mostly electrical. Insurance and repairs are typically higher for VWs.

Mixed Emotions
I am approaching 30K on my 2001 GLX 5- speed and am sad to say that I won't own it long enough to reach 31K. I love the look and all the neat gadgets the Jetta has to offer-it truly is a fun car and I haven't seen any other has everything I could want and more. Pretty crummy that a cd player isn't standard on the top-of-the-line model. Unfortunately, the warranty is out and the problems are just increasing. The passenger driver side window went down and got stuck, the gas cover motor needed fixed and then replacing ($160), engine problem ($800+), driver side door not aligned properly, and the heat is no longer hot. For $25K, I expect my car to be reliable far past the 25K mile warranty.
white wolf
this is my first vee dub. love the german feel. i find myself driving with the windows down so i can listen to the turbo whistle. love the 1 touch windows and sunroof. the monsoon rocks. sounds better and louder then bose stereos ive heard and it was only a couple hundred upgrade. lots fo features for money. the whole wolfsburg package is great with the bbs wheels, sport seats, leather wheel and shifter. i dressed mine up with a spoiler, mud guards, tinted side marker and vw. chrome exhaust tips. in side i have the new vw aluminum dash kit. it personalizes it. i havent seen another white one in a year. after my lease is up ill buy another one
My service manager knows me by name
5 hrs.after pick up from dealer, sunroof motor quit. 1 month later strange creaking/groaning noise from front end Dealer found that "something" was missing in right strut Check engine light comes on at 11 months followed by speedo going nuts List is too long on "items" replaced by dealer. 1 month later, same issue again, This time, different items replaced, told that this will correct the issue. 7 days after picking up the car, my favorite light comes on again " check engine" Just dropped off the car today the service manager....tells me it is one of the oxygen sensors. This is my 6th Volkswagen, and my last.
