Ugh.
This is my first, and last, VW. I've had it less than a year (bought at 24,000 miles) and have had the following problems: oxygen sensor, brake switch, engine light will not go off and the driver's side window mechanism had to be replaced.
VERY Disappointed
I was so psyched to have gotten a Jetta. It looks cool, has a snappy pick up, and a great stereo. But I was disappointed. The random play on multiple disc changer never worked, manual seat backs difficult to adjust, handle for the glove box fell off, driver's door inside handle peeling, back seat drink holder broke second time used. Have had nothing but trouble since warranty expire. Both window lifts broke and the locks are still messed up from the shotty repair. The engine light continues to go on and off at random. And it's currently in for repairs of unknown origin. Terrible, terrible service. Can't wait to dump it and get something reliable!

Worst Car I've Owned (and I had a Fiero)
DO NOT BUY VW!! I have had 9 separate serious mechanical problems. Check Engine light, Mass Air Flow, Power Steering, Air Bag, Rear Windows do not function, Rear Brakes worn out at 30K (front brakes still good at 82K), etc. Interior Materials are cheap and break easily, CD Changer reads "CD ERROR" most of the time with new discs, Gas filler door will not close... More problems but only 700 characters to explain...
Love VW but it is not Reliable
This car was great until it hit 60,000 miles. The O2 sensor, vaccuum hose, turbo valve, strut mounts (poor design as they always break) all needed replacement and the check engine light is still on! We also replaced the window regulators but VW was nice enough to offer a good faith warranty. The locks don't always work on every door and the temp gauge works when it wants to. Overall this car is a headache but I love driving it when it works. The engine is awesome... too bad the quality of the car stinks and it is not reliable! I am not sure if I would buy a VW again.
Clutch Goes At 29000 miles?
Ok i have had my Jetta for 3 months now and i have had to pay 1500 to get my clutch and fly-Wheel replaced and I asked a friend that restores love bugs and he said that it has a hydrolic clutch that is damn neer impossible to beun out yet VW says it was all my faut. But last wed some trick rearended me and pushed my Jetta under a pickup truck totaling the jetta which i guess ended the saga of that car. The two things good about the car is the proformance and the car held its ground in the accident other than the fact that the air-bags didnt go off.
