Used 2000 Volkswagen Jetta Consumer Reviews
Euro Flair w/o Japanese Reliability
My black vr6 jetta glx 5 speed manual was one of the best-looking and performing vehicles in its class for year 2000. It was quick and stylish inside and out. I couldn't go home without it after a few test rides. Who would want to drive back home in a 20 year old rusted-out Toyota pick-up w/ nearly 300k miles on it after test driving the glx? It certainly had that European flair for awhile. Of course I would have opted for an IS300 or G35 had they been on the market in 2000.
Poor reliablity
I purchased my Jetta used with 26000 miles on it in 2002. Within 6 weeks of owning, I had a repair bill of $600+ at the dealrship. Honestly this car has been a service nightmare, the most recent recall of the brake light switch required 3 trips within a 10 day period before it was operational. The first time it was taken in, I had to return it the next day as it lost all horsepower while driving. Needless to say, they told me they had no control over the part after it past testing. It has been the biggest headache of a car. steer clear unless you enjoy visiting the dealership on a monthly basis.

Utterly reliable
My third Jetta is a bitt heavier & slower-handling than the last 2 (only a bit). There's a little more "looseness" in the front end. But it's cost me NOTHING to run - no mechanical problems EVER.
The Perfect Car
This car, I dont know where to start, I have enjoyed this car! On a scale from one to ten (ten best) I would rate it a 10.1! I have a 2000 GLS TDI 5-spd, when it comes time to trade (if I ever do) it will definitely be another Jetta! What can I say 50MPG cant beat it! It has 17,139 miles and not a single problem!
never again
I bought this car new, thinking I was getting a solid, reliable car. It looks good, handles well, and is fun to drive -- but it has so many problems, overall it has been one big frustration. Something breaks, I put the car on probation (and go look at Toyotas) it runs well for a while and then something breaks again. So far -- vents, latch on the center armrest & cupholders have broken (twice), glove box door fell off. Both driver & passenger windows have fallen & won't go up. Mass airflow meter, brake switch light have been replaced. Brakes locked. Check emissions light is ALWAYS on. And that's for starters. Service at local VW dealers is abysmal.
