Used 2006 Volkswagen GTI Consumer Reviews
2006 - GTI 2.0T
This is a really nice car. It has a strong motor, is really responsive, and is well built. It only lacks in one area, the stereo isn't anything special, it's tinny and has no quality. Other than that this car is awesome.
Over 40? The GTI's still for you.
If you were old enough to own and drive an original GTI in '83 and think you're too old now and should drop more money on an Audi or the like, think again. This car is all grown up like you, but still retains its frugal blend of practicality, performance and sublimer. Sure the ad campaigns are geared for a younger demographic, but don't let that deter you from getting what you really want for such little money. After a terrible day at the office, at least you get to drive home!

Another GREAT GTI
Having owned/bought 19 new cars, and being many different brands, the last 3 were GTIs (1995 VR6, 1999.5 VR6, and 2006.5) and for a good reason. Not much compares with the GTIs as far as being true "driver's cars" and when condidering the price of Audi, BMW, & Mercedes, nothing compares. The new GTI is another great evolution over the last. I thought I could never go without the VR6, but the new 2.0 proved me wrong; it has more / great power & torque, better gas mileage & a cool exhaust note. I'm getting 29+ mpg (combined 85+mph California freeways & stop & go). The stereo sounds great and the leather/Top Sport Seats are the most comfortable seats I've ever sat in.
A car that is worth owning!
I owned an Audi TT 225 Q and I loved the car. However, after having owned a new GTI 2.0T, just like the Audi A3, I don't know why anyone would put forth the money for the Audi. The Audi, by comparison is cramped and expensive. When I purchased the TT, I didn't spring for the DSG transmission, but after having it in the VW, I never want another car without it. It shifts much faster than any manual I have ever owned. I loved the TT, but the new GTI is much more fun to drive and has a much lighter feel due to the electromechanical steering. This is an A3 for much less. It is definetely worth investigating. I agree with another reviewer here on this site, the stereo is cheap and not very good.
GTi Heaven
What a superb car! I have owned seven VWs and this one is the best ever! It delivers tremendous performance and handling. There is nothing out there that compares, especially at this price. Plus, VW only plans to sell 15,000 GTIs a year, so, it is a somewhat exclusive car as well. I smile every time I drive it and the deal with my dealer. Mine is a Black Package two car with leather and the 18" wheels - what a car!
