Poor quality
Bought a new 2023 Tacoma in July of 2023. When I got it home from the dealer, I noticed a smudge on the bottom of the rocker panel. When I rubbed it with a rag the paint came off on the rag. I checked the other side, and it did the same. The paint came off the full length of both rocker panels and the bottom of both front fenders. I took it back to the dealer and the cost to repaint the truck was $6,760.00, which Toyota agreed to pay. When I contacted Toyota about replacing the truck due to the excessive repairs, they said no, that's what your warranty is for. I wish this was the only issue but it's not. The transmission is constantly slipping. While cruising at lower rpms it will start slipping and jerking. While braking, just before coming to a stop the back of the truck starts bouncing. The truck is hard to keep going straight. I am constantly adjusting the steering wheel. No modern vehicle should feel like this. The white paint stains very easily. I have less than 2000 miles and there are already stains that will not wax out. My gas millage has dropped significantly. When new I was getting around 22 mpg, now it is 18. And last, the radio reception is very, very, bad. You have to be in the city that the radio station is in to get a good reception. I bought this truck because my last Tacoma, a 2007 that I bought new, was amazing. This one has been a huge disappointment and will be my last Toyota after buying four new Toyota's in the past. Update: the transmission slipping turned out to be a bad torque converter. The bouncing while braking was due to both rear drum brakes being warped. Speaking of brakes, while backing out of my garage, the brakes locked up and the truck would not move. It had to be put on a flatbed tow truck to get it to the dealer. They kept it for 11 days but never found the problem. The brakes just released on their own. So far, this truck has spent 29 days at the dealer for various issues, and it still has to have the new torque converter installed. The torque converter is on back order, that should tell you something.

Used 2019 Tacoma
Overall it’s what I hoped for and expected. However it seems a bit under-powered. Given that it’s a V6 I had expected more from it. Gas mileage is just what I expected, I’m averaging 22-24 in combined use.

Lemon Law
I traded a 2016 Tundra and purchased a 2023 Tacoma in San Antonio on October 13, 2023. Approximately four days later, with 166 miles on the odometer, I began having trouble. While driving on an interstate highway access road, about to take on-ramp to the main lanes, I pressed the gas pedal to accelerate. The truck lost power, RPMs dropped, I heard a warning beep, check engine light came on, and an error message displayed in center display. The error message read, “A malfunction in the electronic control of the engine, throttle, or automatic transmission has been detected. Contact your Toyota dealer in or der to have your vehicle inspected.” Engine was running very rough, misfiring, and would not accelerate past 25mph. After turning off the engine it started right back up and check engine light went out. I took my vehicle back to the dealer the next day. The technician could not recreate the problem and the issue was not resolved. On November 5, 2023 and November 22, 2023 the same problem occurred. During the November 22, 2023 occurrence, with 743 miles on the odometer, I turned off the engine and started it up, but this time it was running a rough, the check engine and TRAC Off light did not turn off. I returned to the dealer for repairs on November 24, 2023. I was told, the Toyota technician was able to recreate the problem several times and through multiple troubleshooting procedures has, to this date, not been able to repair my vehicle. My vehicle has been in the repair shop for 47 days and the dealer has been unable to correct the problem. I'm going through the Lemon Law procedures right now. I've had 6 Toyotas, two from this dealership. I was a loyal Toyota customer for 20 years, not anymore! Chevy here I come.

Great Looking Truck...But.
I recieved my new 2023 Tacoma on Dec 30, 2022 after waiting 5 months as it had to be ordered. I have had the truck now for 6 weeks and have to say I'm very dissapointed overall. I love the look of this truck, but after 6 weeks here are my grievences. #1 Engine and transmission don't seem right together, it doesnt seem to know which gear it wants to be in, very clunky to say the least. #2 Not as responsive as you would think for a small truck with a 3.5 Litre Engine. The most annoying issue is the cabin noise, The muffler sounds like its has a hole in it, very loud high pitch noise and vibration when accellerating, When on the Hwy it sounds like you have the back window open, its that loud!!! There is no sound proofing at all, just carpet on the metal. It just seems like driving a new 20 year old new vehicle. And lastly, the 3.5 Litre engine has a fairly loud and clicking tapping noise when idleing. It very well might be a great off road vehicle, but for everyday driving I don't recomend. I have 1500 kms on it now and will be looking to trade this in for something a little more up todate.

2023 Toyota Tacoma Transmission Problems
Bought a brand new Toyota Tacoma 2023 TRD Pro and the transmission failed after two days in the middle of busy intersection. It took close to a month for Toyota to deliver me a new transmission. There was no sense of urgency on Toyota's part to fix the problem. Luckily the dealership gave me a quality rental to use. I figured this would fall under the lemon law, but I got some nasty attorney type letter from Toyota basically saying it did not. Ok, then, what is Toyota going to do for the problem that they have created. I figure they should pay for an extended warranty and up to two months payments at the very least. If they believe in their product they shouldn't have to worry about funding an extended warranty protection plan. They offered one month payment and basically said nothing to make me feel confident in the product I bought or in Toyota as a Brand. I haven't posted a review of my experience in the hope that Toyota cared about their customers. I guess not. THINK TWICE ABOUT BUYING A TOYOTA TACOMA!!!! I hope others start sharing their experience with the Toyota transmission and customer service as I have here. If my post costs them one new vehicle sale it was worth it. My guess is that it will cost them many new Tacoma vehicle sales. I will look for other sites to post on. It is amazing what a back room customer service department can do to the brand of a vehicle. It should be about the customer.

I am going to approach this review differently. This is the third Tacoma for me. I loved all of them!! I purchased the 4cyl in all 3 beginning in 2005. Dependability was my most important choice. 381,000 miles on the 2005; 225,000 miles on the 2013 and now I own a 2023. The best was the 2005. Literally, I never had to replace anything:transmission, alternator, etc. And even the AC was working perfectly!!!! Most of the reviews here are V6, 4WD. I Use my Tacoma for light duty, plywood, light materials and in that regard my trucks have NEVER failed me left me stranded. However, the V6 offroad is a bit different in comparison. My main objective is reliability. I always service the vehicle every 5000 miles and that's what's the difference for what I expect. Offloading is a different horse.

my first Tacoma / very impressed
From the moment I test drove the Tacoma I was sold .it's so quiet / smooth / and very comfortable . I drive normal so I get a consistent 24-27 mpg . I chose the basics because all I need is a quality drive train and the Tacoma delivers it less all the bells and whistles I don't care for. reminds me of my once Dodge Dakota 5.2l that I put 289k on and it's still on the road / different owner with nearly 400 k on it . at 68 I switched to Toyota and i'm loving it .

Love it for everything it isn't!
Almost at 5,000km on my 2023 SR5 Trail Edition and love it so far. If you want a big, luxurious, plush road hog of a truck, the Tacoma isn't for you. While Toyota has done a great job of ironing out many of the wrinkles, the Tacoma still has an unmistakable rawness baked into its DNA, and that is exactly what makes it incredibly endearing to its many fans. It makes no apologies because it doesn't need to. Its more modest power output is because Toyota understands the impact that strength-energy curves have on durability. It feels 'underpowered' because the transmission is programmed for economy, which is also why it 'hunts' at times, but use ECT or S-mode and let it rev and it isn’t exactly a slouch. The transmission programming and power-band definitely make for a different driving experience, however I am not looking for sports car performance in a mid-sized truck and I have to accept that Toyota engineers probably know a little more than I do about these kinds of things. Some slight adjustments to my driving style and it works great. When measured against a more advanced set of performance metrics than outright luxury and/or marketing nonsense like horsepower ratings and 0-60 times, the Tacoma is somewhat genius in its simplicity. I used to own a 2006 4Runner that was an amazing all-around vehicle, but the driving dynamics bug got to me and I went back to BMW, getting an incredibly powerful modified X5 diesel, but at the end of the day it was simply too needy from a maintenance and repair standpoint and I couldn’t wait to get back into a Toyota truck. I found that the SR5 Trail Edition best reflects the essence of a Toyota truck, equipped in a manner that lends it a more adventurous prowess not found in the base SR5, but without the gadgets and gimmickry of the TRD models. It has everything I want and need from the factory, with none of things that I don’t. Cloth interior, non-LED lights, no electronic brake-booster trickery and void of obnoxious decals/branding. Timeless good looks. It is compact, so it is easy to maneuver and never a burden on city streets and in parking lots – it also fits in my garage, which was important to me. Many would consider the cabin to be tight, but for two of us and a dog it is comfortable without being too much. There is no denying the BOF construction with leaf springs/live axle, however ride quality is impressive overall and it surfs the infrastructural decay of the city streets with ease whenever we have to venture into the closest metropolis – something it does without a single squeak or rattle from the vehicle. This thing is well built. The Tacoma certainly isn’t for everyone, but for those that value the virtues of a simple old-school truck, I don’t think it can be beat. And the Gen 3 Tacoma may be the last of its kind – as amazing as the Gen 4 appears to be, it is definitely taking the Tacoma into a modern new world, which is why I decided to jump on a 2023 – it is both the perfect blend of new and old, and in its most refined state being at the end of its lifecycle. Do recommend – if you appreciate nostalgia and durability, there is no other.
Great truck , had for 2600 miles. No complaints
Great ride. Power. Comfort (not easy for short passenger to get in ; put some nerf bars on; same short person says they wish the front passenger seat a little longer on the thighs ). Mpg has been in the predicted range. Very capable on rugged logging roads Shifting is fine and not the gear hunting some report Ample inside storage , bins under and behind the rear seats Is a wireless charger works but I put items in there instead Road noise not bad (not silent like a luxury car) Toyota connect service works well. Unlock. Lock. Remote start. Note the remote start can be done via app or the fob with a lock lock , lock hold. Not something I’d use much but nice to have I think the 3rd generation is done quite well. I had a base 2011 4x4 4 cyl regular cab from 2010 to 2015. It had zero problems and so far expect the the same for my 2023 trd off-road.

Toyota paint sucks
Purchased new in April 2023. Shortly after my purchase while washing my new Toyota I noticed what appeared to be trash in the paint on the passenger door. Decided to take a closer look at the paint and noticed almost my entire Toyota has more than 20 of these bad places in the paint. Looks to me like it has been repainted and was a terrible job. Contacted Hoover Toyota in Hoover Alabama where I purchased. And have been told by their preferred collision center it will need to be completely repainted. Have spoken with Southeast Toyota and was told they are sorry and they would give me $1500 but I was stuck with the truck. This sucks!!!
