Best car I’ve ever had
I bought this car, new, in 2009 and am still driving it 12 years later. The 6 cyl gives it a lot of responsive, quick pick-up. Everyone (except my husband who is 6’4” tall) who has ridden in front passenger seat or rear seat has found it to be comfortable. Doing only regular maintenance and scheduled replacements, I’ve had ZERO problems with this car any my goal is to keep it as my primary vehicle for 300k miles (1/2 way there now). I am glad it has the spare tire mounted on the outside of the rear hatch which gives lots of extra storage in the back where the spare tire on newer models is located. I also like that the rear hatch door opens to the side rather than up. I also appreciate that the back seat headrests do not block my view in the rearview mirror and that the rear window is full-sized. The only thing I would change would be to allow the front passenger seat to push back farther (for the aforementioned tall spouse). Otherwise this has been my favorite car of all that I’ve owned.
Love my 2nd RAV4 even more
I had a 1999 RAV4 that was bulletproof. I recently upgraded to a 2009 Sport V6 w/appearance package. The power of this V6 is amazing and yet fuel economy is not compromised. On a recent 500 mile round-trip I got almost 28 mpg. The 2009 is much more refined and significantly roomier than my old 1999 model. Rear-seat room is significantly improved, as is cargo room, and it is great for families with children and pets. The only disappointment for me is the ride. You feel every little bump, but I think that is specific to the sport model. And hey, it's an SUV after all, not a Cadillac.
Excellent reliability, some cost cutting evident
I purchased a 2009 Base 2.5L/AWD Rav4. First and foremost, I really like the Rav4. I have had it for about 10 months now and average between 25-28mpg (mostly highway driven). Interior is laid out well with great room for drivers and passengers. Rear passenger seats move fore and aft and recline. Sightlines are very good and all instruments are well laid out. Toyota revised the base engine for more horsepower/torque and smoother running and it is apparent. The engine is smooth and revs freely. Fuel economy is very good for a CUV. behind the rear seats provide ample storage with under floor storage bins and handy remore release levers to lower rear seats from the hatch.
Great little pocket rocket
Very good all around car. Good mileage, great acceleration with decent handling in all conditions. Creature comforts not luxurious but functional.

Quality transportation
My RAV4 has been solid transportation for nine years: easy to drive, easy to maintain - simply reliable. The test of its durability is I am about to turn it over to my grandson with confidence that it will be safe and reliable for him.
