Top pick for a fuel efficient AWD SUV
My wife and I purchased our new 2022 RAV 4 Prime model SE on March 7 th this year. We put nearly 2200 miles on it so far and only put in 14 gallons of gas. This is my wife's car and her commute is anywhere from 32-36 miles round trip. She drives her commute on 100 % electric and when she returns home she normally has anywhere from 2-10 miles of electric range left, depending on weather conditions and if she makes any small trips out of her normal commute. We have a level 2 charger in which it takes on 4.5 hours to fully charge from an empty battery. Now when running just on the gas motor once the battery is depleted MPG is anywhere from 38 MPG to 40+ mpg. The other day I drove 130 mile roundtrip down the coast of Oregon from via Highway 101 from the Astoria / Seaside Oregon area. I used 49 miles of electric range and when the gas motor kicked in when the battery was depleted I quickly reset the gauge to display MPG. When I returned home the dash MPG displayed 49.5 MPG. for those 80 miles or so. Speeds where 25-55 MPH as Hwy 101 goes through several small towns. Weather was fair with temps in the mid 50's or so. There is no SUV Plugin All Wheel Drive vehicle that weighs close to 4,500 lbs that is this efficient.

RAV4 Prime checks all the boxes
My retired lifestyle and driving style makes the RAV4 Prime the perfect vehicle for me. I often get 55-60 miles on a full charge. My daily driving around town puts me at 90-95% all electric. Hitting the open road in regular HV mode returns 38-40 mpg and no range anxiety! A full charge and full tank of gas can get me nearly a 600 mile range.

Love this Plug In Hybrid small SUV
So smooth, so quiet, so enjoyable. I have to say the many tech features will take time to fully understand and use but from the get go the car has been a joy to drive. I charge on 110 V after use an so far have not had to use any gas. 95% of my driving is within 30 miles of the house. One negative, as it is will all new cars, the headrests are really uncomfortable to me. They tilt my head forward at a very uncomfortable angle. I am below average height but I have heard that many others have issues with today's headrests. I use a back pillow to push myself about an inch forward in the seat and all is well.

Simply an amazing SUV
The Rav4 Prime is an excellent SUV! Not only is it a beautiful Vehicle it preforms just as well! They are extremely hard to find, they’re production numbers are very low and most of them are sold in the state of California. Between the battery shortage along with the chip shortage and low production it make it hard for the average consumer to buy one. The Rav4 Prime is smooth, powerful and very good on, reliability, MPG, comfort, passenger safety, sound system, and range just to mention a few things I really like about the rav! 42 miles all electric is awesome and if you don’t have a lead foot you can stretch this out to around 50 mpg depending on city or highway driving. I bought my Rav in October 2022 and have only filled my take one time! Can you believe that! I do however cycle the gas engine from time to time and use a fuel additive to preserve the fuel. Charge time with level two is four hours, level one is 12 hours if you use the Included Toyota 110 volt charger. I definitely recommend buying a level Two charger. You can find them on Amazon for less than $200.00 I really do not see any negative things with this vehicle, but if you want to find something negative and look hard enough I am sure some people will. I highly recommend the Mid sized SUV if you can find one buy! You will not be disappointed 😊🇺🇸👍🏻

Great plug-in range
I wanted to love this vehicle, and overall, it's quite the SUV. Size, handling, range, comfort, quality are all top-notch. But the heating system is inadequate and the electronics are way behind the competition. Our 2018 Mitsubishi phev is superior electronically; maybe because we have the SE model?
This review of the Prime is all wrong.
The front seats are extremely comfortable and supportive. If not for the seats I would not be able to drive over 500 miles without stopping. Car handles very well. Once on the rural road with 65mph speed limit I set the cruise with lane assist and in one spot there was a 90 degree fast turn with suggested speed of 35. Car took it at 65mh like it was nothing. Good thing I was the only one driving there. I think this Edmunds reviewer is [non-permissible content removed]. And he doesn't know how to drive. A regular old man on Youtube drove 0-60 at 5.5 seconds with the passenger. Car and Driver got it with 5.4 seconds. And this Edmunds [non-permissible content removed] only got 5.9. I don't think so. So far NONE of other PHEV can even touch RAV4 Prime. XSE already has enough feature not to get the Premium package. It has the highest electric range and the best mileage of ALL PHEVs. Especially for its size. Literally the best car Toyota makes. The fastest car Toyota makes. Supra is not made by Toyota. And with all that power it has the same mpg as the regular Hybrid with much less power.

Still The Best Most Economical Suv Ever
I have had my 'prime' for over 3 years and during that time I drove 38,000 miles. My cost is still about $1.90 per charge to go 44 miles. My old V6 Rav got about 22 mpg winter and 24 mpg summer average. That's 2 gallons of gas or about $7.00 to go 44 miles. In the past 3 years I have used about 4 gallons per month. I am saving over 65% on fuel with the charging cost included. The hi tech in this vehicle is outstanding, the power amazing, the ride is excellent, the seats are very comfortable and it is very quiet! Over 3 years and 2 issues. First a minor adjustment with a computer paid for by the dealer and second a replaced charger at no charge. I highly recommend this car. It is fun and a pleasure to drive every day. I understand the 2025 may be redesigned. I can’t wait to see it. They are making the best SUV even better. I will be buying my 5th Rav 4!!

2023 RAV4 Prime 18 month review
I've had the 23 R4 Prime SE for over 18 months with close to 19K miles No problems at all and overall get 55 "mpg" (combined real world gas and electric mileage). I use a grounded 110 outlet in my driveway and charge overnight at approx. 10 1/2 hours for a full charge. I drive efficiently, but the 302 horsepower is very handy/impressive when passing or merging. The Prime is very practical with quite a few thoughtful features. We are senior citizens, so getting in and out is easy as well as using the car seat for our grandchild. There is always a learning curve if this is your first PHEV as there are a few drive modes. The Prime Facebook Group can be quite helpful. I drive in EV for local trips and HV on highways over 38 miles per hour. I estimate 40% local and the rest highway. If you drive 75% or more on highways then a PHEV is less practical. With a full tank of gas and regular charging there is over 600 miles of range. Overall I have no complaints about the handling. The steering is a little light but an SUV is not a sports car. If you value efficiency and your driving/lifestyle fits what this car has to offer, I'm sure you would be pleased. Toyota quality control is good.. I recommend the R4 Prime (plugin) without hesitation. UPDATE: My wife are I are very pleased with our R4 Prime. A full charge takes about 10.5 hours with a range of about 43miles all electric in local driving. You can also create charging schedules easily with vehicle software. We live in a suburb of NYC and all of my local driving is electric only. We do longer trips 2-3 times per week so about 60% of our driving is in Hybrid rather than EV mode. I gas up around every 5-6 weeks and charge approx. 3X per week. The vehicle feels very solid on the road and takes bumps well. It corners fine for an SUV, has a small turning radius and is very quick. Passing on the highway is both easy and fun. Driving locally in all electric mode is quiet and pleasant. I think the breaks are fine and the less luxurious SE version has excellent safety features. Most importantly, it is well made and reliable. Toyota does a good job with hybrid and PHEV vehicles as compared to other manufacturers . We are seniors with a young grandchild so getting in and out and using the car seat is a snap. Using the infotainment system for 2 drivers can be a challenge so sometimes we plug in an iphone via usb. Also there is somewhat of a learning curve, but with the push of 1 button the software will decide the most efficient driving mode (hybrid or electric). Given our driving style and easy access to charging I would recommend the RAV4 Prime without hesitation.

So far so good !
This is our second RAV4 Hybrid but this one is a Prime. Very very quick and smooth. Luxury car ride and I’m talking frost heaves here. I can charge it at home and work and not use any gas all week.

The best car I have ever driven.....
and I have owned a lot of Toyota cars. I just bought my a month ago from Longo for MSRP. It is very quiet inside. The only time I hear the engine is when engine is cold. But once it warms up even in HV mode unless I look at the board I have no idea the engine is running. Inside the car there are plenty of buttons to control everything without digging in to the screen for hidden menus. I get a great gas mileage. 46mpg on freeway in heavy stop and go traffic. After driving a month I still have couple of hundred miles to go. Car is very comfortable unlike Tesla Model Y I was comparing it to. Total range is 600 miles but I will probably get more. Car drives great and takes corners like a sport car because of the low center of gravity. What I really like is that I can drive in HV while gas is relatively cheap at $4 per gallon. Or plug it in and drive in EV mode if gas goes up again. I can easily drive 400 miles before stopping unlike in any EV which has to stop every 150 miles for a charge. What a waste of time. 2 minutes and the tank is full. I did not buy this car to save environment because it is all [non-permissible content removed] invented by environmentalists to get paid. I bought it for the great range that will allow me to travel in remote places where are no gas stations nearby.
