I have owned the xse for 4 months now. I took the family down to South Carolina from up north. My child and her friend were very comfortable in the back seat captain chairs. Plenty of storage space with the 3rd row down.Loved the smooth ride, comfort and gas mileage was outstanding. This Suv looks great and rides great. I also own a Lincoln mkx. I loved the XSE so much, I drive it everyday and my wife drives the Lincoln. I highly recommend this vehicle for families.

“LOW” on”HIGH”lander 2024-Disappointed

2024 Toyota Highlander XLE 4dr SUV (2.4L 4cyl Turbo 8A)

Hey my name is Prabhakar, Just want to share disappointing experience I recently had with my dream car purchase Toyota Highlander-2024. I bought $50K car and sales team was in so hurry to close transaction before their deadline of Dec’23 and didn’t allow sufficient/peaceful time to tick checkbox of my list, I accept my big mistake here, I didn’t take test drive on highway to check car performance. Now, from Day1, new highlander 2024 having problems with excessive wind noise and “ unbearable” air pressure in cabin with speed 45+mph (unbearable with speed 70+mph). I had 2 test drive with technician and both of them agreed for wind noise and “ unbearable” air pressure in cabin, they requested me to drop car for 4 hrs. To my surprise, after completion of service, I was told this is normalcy and we didn’t find any issue. Topmost, they told Toyota rejected request and when I reached to Toyota, BEC told me dealer didn’t find any issue and that is reason Toyota rejected the case. Who is untruthful- can’t say 😂 My selling dealer service manager says this normalcy with toyota designed“Aerodynamics” and they don’t know where wind leak failing there super “ Aerodynamics”. I offered out of pocket fix if any too for 2 week old brand new car😂 I won’t recommend this car or at least have a full test drive and please go with trustworthy (who won’t lie) dealer. Toyota doesn’t care for their customers for sure so don’t go with fake pride and big brand name.

Poor engine

The 4-cylinder turbo engine in the 2023 Highlander XSE is very poor. There are dead spots in the acceleration unless you are very heavy on the gas pedal and then it can get a little unwieldy due to the torque steer. While many people can handle the torque steer there will be a large number who cannot. I would rate gas mileage as poor at 22 mpg around town (I am easy on the gas pedal but because of the dead zones in the car you end up having to give it a lot more gas to accelerate, which causes the turbo to kick in thus using more gas. My Kia Telluride gets better gas mileage at 25 mpg around town. The Kia is a bigger, nicer car than the Highlander. Bear in mind that a turbocharged engine will likely cost you more to maintain over time with some potentially costly repairs related to the turbo system. I also find the brakes to be rather so-so in the Highlander. The third seat is absolutely useless on the Highlander, except for maybe babies or very small toddlers and these children should not be in these seats. Lastly, the climate control auto setting leaves a lot to be desired as it does not kick the fan up high enough when you get in a hot car. On the plus side the seats are comfortable and there is adequate room in the front two rows unless you are over 6 feet tall (I am 5 feet 10 inches and have to put the driver's seat back as far as it will go). The Highlander handles just okay, and the ride is acceptable. Fit and finish is decent. Overall, there are much better cars out there for the same price.

Little issues add up!

Super annoying moon roof, the rattling is so bad we can’t ride with the screen open. It’s louder than the music! Dealership fixed it once now they “don’t know what to do”. The back hatch doesn’t want to close. When I hit the button it starts to come down and goes back up, I end up having to do it myself. I’ve had the car for a year and a half seems like every 6 months there is something new not wanting to work right. I would recommend this car for a family with one child, anymore than that it’s too small. There is no trunk space with the third row up. Once you have two kids and one has a friend there isn’t enough room. Also I’m 6’0 and there isn’t much room in the passenger seat. I went from a 2500 truck to this (my dream mom car) definitely regretting my decision.

Almost Perfect

I love the appearance, the general ride, and the technology of this SUV. If I had to find any flaw it would be the shifting pattern of the transmission. It does have an odd feel when applying pressure at hard acceleration. I don't think the engineers at Toyota expected me to drive this the same way I drive my Porsche so I adjust my accelerator pedal pressure and all is good. The tight third row does not register with me as it is something I may never use but if you do, it is not a place for adult to be for more than a couple of uncomfortable minutes. While I agree with many observations that the 6 cylinder was smooth as butter, the 4 cylinder is the future and does the job adequately. So, if you buy into the Toyota lure of Quality, Durability, and Reliability, I believe this to be a great choice.
