I just can't say enough about this vehicle. The ride is comfortable, the gas consumption is low for the size of the vehicle and the amenities abound in the Limited version.

Nearly Perfect Vehicle

Everything you could want in an SUV with decent gas mileage. I'm currently averaging just over 24 miles per gallon through about 4500 miles of mixed driving. Gas mileage on short (5 minutes or less) trips is disappointing while the engine is warming up. Best gas mileage is obtained in 30 to 40 mile per hour driving and stop and go traffic.

I've been trying to get this car over a year in California. I bought it in Reno, NV--only a 2 month wait. Pros: Much better mileage than my Sequoia! I get about 25 hwy/31 city--but I drive 80-85 mph. Great design, but would like more hybrid-specific markings/colors. Great power and acceleration. Smooth, tight driving compared to most SUVs--doesn't feel like a boat. Fun to drive, always watching power meter to improve my driving. Helping environment. Cons: Need better stereo=IPOD/satellite radio. Want to roll down rear hatch window--major bummer! No rear heat/air controls. Need Distance to Empty data! No telescoping steering wheel adjustment. Not allowed in commuter lane!

We bought the Highlander Hybrid at the end of September 2005 and now have 5000 miles on it. Rides like a car, incredible power, very roomy, and environmentally friendly. As noted in other reviews, the gas mileage is not quite what is advertised, because most people who buy an SUV are not using it in real city driving. The gas engine kicks in very quickly when accelerating. Real world mileage is 24- 26 mpg combined, likely less if most of your driving is on the highway at 70 mph and more if you are in a true bumper-to-bumper city. This model is in such demand that you must pay full sticker. Our dealer wanted $2700 for the DVD navigation system, we passed.
