2025 Toyota Grand Highlander Consumer Reviews

This is worst Toyota product of last decade plus
Well, after three recalls including one now that has even stopped production, the software remains a "blue screen of death" randomly, the hybrid battery is now on its third replacement and the check engine light is a daily companion. We were so happy with just getting one as they were impossible and we waited so long. During the wait we test drove four or five of the competitors and actually in hindsight should have bought either the Kia or the Pilot.

No Regrets!
Absolutely love my Grand Highlander. Just hit over 5000 miles and haven’t had any issues. It’s comfortable and has plenty of storage space, even with the 3rd row up. Only issue I have is getting the system to connect to the right phone based on who is in the car. Can’t get it to switch between the driver’s profiles. Sometimes you can have too much technology.

Cabin boom is real
Before purchasing a Grand Highlander, be sure to google "grand highlander cabin boom". This is an engineering defect (Toyota calls it a "characteristic") that results in a low frequency booming noise in your ears as you drive at low speeds. Similar to when one back window is open, but not exactly. It's worse. Like being inside a drum. Based on the posts on Reddit, cabin boom does not affect all GHs, and it's not limited to just a certain model or trim. So before purchasing you need to test drive like crazy the exact car you plan to take home. Test drive it on local roads going less than 20 - 25 mph. Unfortunately we didn't know about this problem until after purchase. Even though we reported the problem within hours, and took the car back to the dealership, and said we didn't want the car due to this issue, they only offered to buy the car back with depreciation. Buy with caution.
What happened to quality
After a year and a half with this vehicle, it's been back to the shop at least twice for various reasons it has three recalls still unresolved I continue to have issues with the drive shaft in the front wheels knocking which sounds like gears are slipping. They've replaced these axles once and within 30 days the noise came back. Not to mention it took over a year to get my spare key, still have unresolved issues with the LCD display and radio controls. I cannot get the back tailgate to open or close with the foot recognition switch. I feel like I'm doing a dance in front of the entire world trying to get the door to close when I have my hands full. Awful car don't recommend.

Raving Review
I bought the Grand highlander for its size. It doesn’t handle like a big car. Takes curves and hills fantastically. Just perfect to seat seven. All the technology is a bit much for me but I’m learning. I went with the Limited edition and so happy I did. The panoramic view around the the car while backing up is so helpful. I use it constantly. We love the panoramic sunroof, too. The only thing I would change is the front windows and windshield need more tint like the back windows.
