Trade-in time for 2003 Toyota Camry LE V6 we really liked except for a known Camry feature - choppy transmission. Put together a features list, studied sedans/SUVs over 18 months. It came down to test driving 3: 2008 Camry LE V6, 2007 Honda Accord V6, 2008 Ford Taurus SEL. After driving the Taurus there was no comparison. It blows away the Camry. Better price too! Camry handled very nice but research/Toyota service tells us that the transmission hasn't changed. Camry's small inside compared to Taurus. Taurus is actually competing with the Avalon which it also blows away! Camry interior is cheaper/less attractive than our 2003 was. Toyota; while you were sleeping - Taurus came along!

I purchased this brand new 2008 LE V6 at the end of 2008. Within a week the seat and steering wheel would vibrate when driving 65-75 on the highway 30 miles to get to work. Also had issues with the bluetooth. Brought in repeatedly. Eventually a TSB was sent out by Toyota regarding vibration/shudder after months of complaining, but it didn't completely resolve the issue. Toyota Rep insists it's the way Camry is designed. Had Honda's for 20 years, first toyota, incredibly disappointed. Do not feel safe. Also experience transmission hesitation as others.

Very good car—Toyota stands behind product

I acquired this car at 75k miles. It had already had the transmission and transaxle replaced by Toyota under warranty at 50k. Dash looked “distressed” looked bad and felt melty/sticky. Toyota replaced dash for free under “customer relations”. Engine began burning oil at 120k miles. About.a quart every 1000-1200 miles. Toyota did an oil consumption test, my car “failed” and the engine had pistons and piston rings replaced—at no cost to me. All else I have done to the car: not much, beyond routine brakes, fluid changes, tuneup. Replaced cruise control arm, about $100 bucks, part and labor. Replaced all four struts at 150k. Not cheap at $800 installed, but normal for a car with high miles with KYB brand struts. Pluses: it’s not a fancy car but decent looking style and shape-wise for an older car and extremely reliable. Radio/CD functions great—pretty good, great quality of sound and loud for a factory system. Seats and interior have held up very well. They are plain Jane and not upscale but okay enough looking. Pretty comfortable, fairly quiet, nice ride, smooth engine and transmission, except for a little bit of rough idle at stoplights. Replaced small leak power steering pump, and lower front end bushings, $300 parts and labor. Now I’m at 200k miles. Air conditioning has always blown very cold and well in very hot weather, heater works great, all controls accessories etc and power window power lock switches all work perfectly still. Gas mileage is pretty good— 30-32 mpg flying along at 80 mph, this thing cruises very well and comfortably for long trips. Seats are supportive, a tad on the firm side, but the 6 way electric adjustable driver’s seat helps change up sitting position which helps on long trips. Visibility out of car is good. Electric mirrors are good. 4 cylinder 2.4 engine is pretty peppy and is not a dog by any measure. It is responsive and compared to 4 cylinder cars of the 70’s and 80’s, really compares to the V6’s in 90’s Nissans and Camrys. Goes pretty well. Geared well with 5 speed transmission and pulls steep and long hills well In 4 gear up to 80 without undue pushing. Trunk space is very large. Toyota quality was a bit spotty with American built and assembled cars but, in my experience, Toyota stood behind my car. Probably part luck and good timing for me, as Toyota seemed to lag in implementing campaigns to fix known issues. But, I’m incredulous as a second owner, with a near 10 year old car, that they stood behind my car. I owned 2 4Runners and now a Toyota Sienna for my wife. We’ve owned Nissan product too. The only cars that may topple Toyota are Kias—if they last as long. We shall see!
