The stated MPG is 43 city/highway. I am getting anywhere from 33 mpg to 37 mpg. Very disappointing! Spoke with Toyota and they gave me a bunch of bs and basically I have to live with it. Other than disappointing mpg, the car suspension is very close to the ground resulting in scrapping the bottom of the carriage frequently. Putting those issues aside, the Avalon performs well and is a good looking car.

Terrible Front Seat for a 6'4" man

I'm 6'4" -- tall but not off the charts. I've purchased and still own two previous Avalons so just assumed this would work. The front seat is so bad that I can't drive it with out support cushions to undue the way the seat forces my front shoulders to roll forward. Then, when I use a cushion it puts me in a position that makes my head touch the moon roof, which I need to keep open (the ceiling cover part) so as not to be touching. More on the seat - when I first sit in it for a demo or a few minutes, it feels fine - nice 4 way lumbar adjusment etc. However if I drive for 30 minutes or so I begin to get a deep ache in my shoulders. So much so that if I drive for an hour I'll be sore the next day. Once I drove 90 minutes and the pain was such that I couldn't get to sleep with out advil. This is terrible ergonomic design - the car should have come with a warning. And, when I called the Toyota customer support line they just said I might need to buy (at my expense) a custom seat. On a $40K car one expects great comfort for the driver, or least acceptable. I've been a big Toyota fan for 20 years, and teach the toyota production system at work -but I'll have to reconsider going forward. (Having said this, the rest of the car is great - but this basic issue outweighs all else!

With great mpg and just super all around sedan this is the car for me. If you want a gas hog, buy a US brand.

A Joy To Drive

We have had this car for less then a week. The more I drive it the more I appreciate this car. The acceleration is excellent as is the handling as you glide over roads. It is comfortable and the large GPS screen is easy to see in both daylight and night time viewing. My only minor complaint is that the car is low to the ground and if you are tall your head hits the upper door frame getting in and out of the car.
