2 Years later and love her even more
This month has been 2 years since I purchased my WRX new. The car has been flawless. Always reliable and dependable. Best mpg i have gotten was 28 mpg mostly highway while having fun. I'm sure if i put the cruise control at 70 I could get another couple mpgs. Car is decently quick and handles like its on rails. I have never been so excited for turns in my life. Only complaint is the stock tune. It pulls hard to 4k rpm then dies till 5k rpm then picks up again. Next year i will modify the car. Full exhaust, intake and pro tune. Afterwards she will be a complete different animal. Just note when you mod your new WRX you will pass up the warranty on your engine. As long as your tuner is spot on, there's really nothing to worry about. One more thing, this car has held its value so well. I were to sell it now I would only lose 5% of what i paid. That's excellent since most cars lose 10-15% when you drive off the lot. Overall very happy with my WRX.

great car...has flaws like all cars
Have owned my 2017 Base WRX since new; now have 70k miles and have had absolutely no issues. I drive hard and aggressive, but at age 57 I do not abuse the car. This is my second WRX; my 2003 bugeye wagon carried me 279k...only replaced the clutch once. I have looked at many other cars (BMW 3 series, Cayman, Golf R, Civic R, etc) but keep coming back to the WRX because it's a great package and has a low cost of ownership. Great car for urban settings, twisty backroads, smooth dirt roads. Consistently get great highway mileage....32 MPG on recent SoCal to Utah trip...mostly at 80 MPH. Top end flattens-out at about 105 but it can be pushed to 120. Have only updated tires, replaced battery, and completed normal maintenance. The pros of current model: solid and responsive chassis; planted suspension; great brakes and steering...connected feel; seating position and visibility are great; pedal positions allow heel toe and left foot braking; torquey responsive engine...FA engine far smoother, quieter and drivable than old EJ. Cons: infotainment clunky; gear ratios..5 and 6 are too close to be meaningful; throttle hang (or some might say rev matching); road and wind noise (see below about tires). Things to consider: it is not an "off the line" car...don't drop the clutch or abuse it...engage the clutch clean; same for the shifter...don't jam the shifter into position...make your shifts clean; I opted for 17-inch rims for softer ride; replaced horrible stock Dunlop tires with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S...much quieter and no loss of performance; don't plan to modify...very hard to get the turbo/intake/exhaust plumbing and ECM mapping correct so don't bother; buy a new one or make sure you know the ownership of a used one.

The most unreliable car
Bought this car brand new subaru wrx 2017 3 months passed battery failed on me my thought was mehhh its fine not big issue then i literally jinx myself, 4 months later again battery failed, now its been year and couple months and 40,000 km on it and the clutch is totally gone premature dont you think and it gets better its not on warranty and guess what came out of my pocket yup thats right 1500. Fast forwarding to today the car has been having issue with ac unit and brakes just week later after its been at the shop . guess what i am done im already placing this car on sale and i will never step foot onto another subaru dealership ive had 7 cars in my life and this was by far the worst never ever ever had issues with my honda,VW,acura, nissan,BMW,lexus and toyota . so disappointed in this car, subaru warranty bs spin around
Junk!! Run run run!!!!
Do your research! Join forums and social media groups and read and listen to the issues people are having with these cars! It’s not a new issue either but yet Subaru fails to make an appropriate change to remedy it. 61,800 miles and engine is gone. Dealer quote of $10,800 for a used engine. That’s half of what the car is worth. What a joke! Subaru you got me once! Never again I just hope this helps someone make a decision to not buy one. I wish I’d had done more research before I bought it.
