I am the original owner of a 2015 WRX. I have run synthetic oil and high octane gas in it since day one. This past Monday night, headed out on a business trip, the engine had a total failure. I lost all power and barely made it to the side of the road. The car has 100,00 miles on it and has been maintained. Under the wrong circumstances, this could have been more than engine failure, but lives could have been lost. I have owned the car for 4 years with 1 year left of financing. The repair estimate is $11,000. There is something wrong with this model and I would be very careful letting a loved one behind the wheel.

I have had my 2015 Subaru Premium manual version for over 62K miles since purchasing it new in October 2014. The cars handling and engine performance is outstanding, well above its price range. The direct injected twin scroll 2.0 liter turbocharged engine is a real winner. In both areas it well exceeds 30K sporty car expectations. Subaru's excellent all wheel drive system gives the driver an excellent four season vehicle. As of late 2015, Consumer reports likes the Subaru all wheel drive best of all tested wheel drive system in the snow. Subaru puts most of its money into the cars outstanding engine and drive train which I agree with. Cars interior is improved significantly over past edition. Audio quality with with mid level audio option is much improved. It is no longer a very sporty car with an econobox interior and fits with the cars price class overall. Exterior and interior paint can use additional improvement but Subaru customer service has provided outstanding help and remuneration on these problems. Subaru paid for a strut and air conditioner even though the car was out of warranty for those parts. In the case of the strut just over 36K. In the case of the air conditioner, last year when I reported the problem with my knowledge of manufacturer advisory to its dealers repair departments of higher than normal problems in that area leading to new air conditioner now being used in later WRXs.. If you any problems with the car that are not significantly your fault, my experience is that Subaru customer service will be fair and do its best to correct the problem and make you whole. No major personal expenses on the car yet. Gas mileage is somewhat below average for a sporty compact car with low 20s mph in mixed driving. However, car can be driven with pure premium or a mixture of premium and regular with an octane of at least 91 with no noticeable fall off in performance to me. I always use a top tier brand of gas so lots engine cleaners in the gas. In October, it will be six years of ownership and I have been very happy with it and Subaru's backing of its product.

I have to get a new car due to having my 3rd baby and i'm SAD. I have not have any problems with my car.. just basic maintenance. Really solid car.

Bought this car, base WRX, in April 2015 when my 2008 Kia Spectra was totaled in a fender bender at 5 mph. The Spectra was only totaled because of the crumple hood safety feature. After the accident, the Spectra was drive able, but had high mileage. I slid under the bumper of the higher sitting SUV at an on ramp when everyone stopped quickly. (My Spectra had an issue with the engine racing for no reason and I'd have to push in the clutch to keep from running into other cars, and then turn the car off). I wanted a WRX for years, but was out of my price range. Boss gave me a raise to get a new car, and insurance gave me $4k for the Kia. I went out and bought the WRX! I did a test drive and got scared at first from the turbo boost and lag. (remember the Kia engine racing....?) I was using the Edmunds buyer's service to find good deals, and get the up front price promise. After the test drive of the first WRX, I found a second through Edmunds with a free upgrade to the STI exhaust. I called the first dealer, where I test drove, and asked if they could get the second WRX on their lot and I would do the deal? The answer was yes, and I bought the second WRX for about $26,500. I put $6k down and financed for 60 months. I drive over 20k per year and this is the second silver/light color car I've owned (first was the Spectra). Wow I don't know if it's the light color, but with both cars, other cars keep running into the back of me! (like how I lost the Kia, but I hit a black SUV). WRX is a great car, sturdy and dependable. Issues: the battery died at 2 years at about 36k miles, I replaced. Of course it comes with summer ties....why wouldn't it? I replaced the OEM summer tires (with Continental DWS) at about 10k in Dec 2015 before a big 2' snow in Balt, and then after digging out I drove through the snowy streets to BWI airport to fly to Vienna, Austria. In Vienna, I showed them my WRX and the 2' of snow...Vienna had no snow. In the summer of 2017, we drove to N. Carolina to watch the total solar eclipse, and on the way home we had over 15 hrs of bumper to bumper traffic. After hours of traffic, (I was using my cruise control to save my clutch leg by increasing and decreasing the cruise setting with the little switch) my check engine light came on and the cruise control symbol lit up! I freaked and pulled into a gas station to check the engine but found no problems. I just had to drive without the cruise control the rest of the way home. After being turned off and sitting overnight, the check engine light went off, and the cruise control worked again Yea! Over the next 2 years if I over used it in traffic or slick roads, the check engine would light up with the cruise control symbol and I would lose cruise control. Recently the lights have stayed off and I use cruise control, but turn off in heavy traffic. I did my first oil change at 9k miles with the recommended Subaru specified oil and filter from the dealer (cost about $60). Second oil change was not until 30k because after the first oil change at 9k my gas mileage dropped from 30 mpg to about 26 mpg. Once the oil gained mileage and age, the gas mileage went back up to 30+ mpg. My friend speculated that as the oil loses viscosity the gas mileage increases? Maybe with synthetic, but I always thought the reason to have an oil pressure gauge was to watch for the oil pressure decrease as the oil breaks down? Maybe the gauges were just to watch for leaks? I drive north to the Poconoes almost every weekend, and during the week I commute from Baltimore to DC, horrible commute and traffic. Since my 30k oil change, I have not changed the oil, and I can get up to 40 mpg as measured by the automated system, (it reads 10% high) on highway, which equals 36 mpg measured by dividing miles by gallons of gas (manual system?). Driving the streets of Balt I get about 24 mpg. To maintain the higher gas mileage, I change the oil filter (extremely easy on this car!! Maybe the best feature of all?) about every 10k and top off with new Subaru synthetic or Castrol syntec. I want to do a full oil change again before 100,000 miles coming up soon. Ok the clutch is still original. About 18 months ago we went to a Ravens football game, and had to park in someone's yard. I thought I could hop over the curb, but my rear tires where both up against the curb. I gave too much gas and we smelled the clutch burning (as people have mentioned in earlier reviews). I thought the clutch was toast but its ok (went through 6 clutches in an '84 Horizon over 12 yrs). My first Continental DWS's lasted about 72,000 miles! before I blew one out at 80 mph when I quickly had to steer off an exit ramp on 81 north-south of Scranton, PA. The DWS's worked great, and I was smelling burning rubber going up a hill and I thought it was trucks but was me. Stopped, put donut on and drove 200 miles home. Popped on OEM summer tire until I bought a new set of DWS. At 72k tires still read DW! DryWetSnow. Never been in shop. Update: March 20222. A little over 130,000 miles now. Everything is good. Not commuting since covid. Drive in city mileage 24.5 mpg. Highway mpg over 35.
