Lasted the Long...
My Saturn has never failed me, but as soon as it reached 80,000k, it began to "fall apart." It still runs, gets me where I'm going, but rattles and does not sound too well.
good first car
We have had this car for about 2 years now and it has been working good but we keep haveing to fix the timeing belt cause it wont stop make a scratchy noise and what i really hate is that the car says it allways about to over heat but it dosent but then when i turn the AC on then it gets reall hot and i live in Denver so in the summer it gets reall hot. but after all that it has been pritty relyable and good.
Not pleased
This car's alternator went out at 36,000 miles after the warranty was up. It went out again in 2000. The gears shift badly. Reverse gear is terrible. It gets awful gas mileage around town about 22mpg.
It was okay for my first car
I bought the car used with 111K on it. Was fine at first.Around 120K the motor block broke ( a so-called "rare" problem)leaving my altenator dangling, thanks to a ingenious mechanic I was able to drive the deamed "finished and undriveable" car again. The trannie was also going, the reverse was about to go and shifting was pretty jerky for an automatic. All this aside I loved my little saturn it did what I needed and I would have driven it till it died had it not been totaled.
Dead at 38,000 miles
My '93 Saturn SL2 quit at 38,000 miles. It would have cost $2500 for the dealer to rebuild the engine which was more than they would give me for the repaired car. The General Manager of the Saturn dealer I bought it from lectured me that the time element on the warranty was every bit as important as the mileage limitation. By that reasoning if you buy a Saturn with a 3 or 5 year warranty that's all you should expect to get out of the car. He also informed me that his service department was union and worked strictly on commission so he could not give me a break on the cost of the repair no matter how disappointing the car's performance because "it wouldn't be fair."
