The Porsche Macan Electric isn't just a regular Macan with electric motors instead of a gas powertrain. It's a completely different SUV that rides on a different platform, has a different interior and boasts more advanced tech features. We drove the 2026 Porsche Macan on our test track and on real roads. Our Edmunds team conducts rigorous independent vehicle testing, driving 500,000 miles a year.

Driving experience

How does it drive? The Macan EV lineup offers varying degrees of performance from adequate to serious. At our test track, we tested the Macan 4, the sporty GTS and the potent Turbo. Acceleration from 0 to 60 mph ranged from 4.8 seconds for the Macan 4 to 3.1 seconds for the Macan Turbo, with the GTS falling in the middle. All electric Macans feel are easy to drive smoothly in city traffic. Unlike most other EVs, the Macan EV doesn't offer full one-pedal driving, meaning you can't come to a complete stop without using the brake pedal as you can on other EVs.

Whichever Macan you choose, it'll have better handling and braking abilities than many of its rivals. The Turbo we tested was fitted with optional high-performance summer tires, recorded a neck-stretching 1.01 g around our skidpad, and it had no issue keeping up with some serious sports cars on twisting backroads. The GTS was close behind, measuring 0.98 g.

The Macan's advanced driver aids are a bit of a letdown, however. Not only do many systems cost extra, but we found some to be overly sensitive to everyday occurrences. The forward collision warning, for example, activated in response to vehicles parked on the side of the road.

Comfort

How comfortable is it? Like many luxury EVs, the Macan prioritizes a quiet and comfortable cabin. With the synthetic EV soundtrack shut off, the interior borders on serene, no doubt helped by our test cars' optional insulated windows. It's easy to get into the front seats thanks to the Macan's relatively low ride height, and no matter which seats you order, they're plenty comfortable. Rear passengers will not be as happy. The door openings are large enough, but legroom is at a premium, making it difficult to slide in and get comfortable. Other SUVs in this class do not struggle with rear legroom like the Macan does, making these seats only really suitable for kids.

The Macan's climate control is a little less convoluted to use than the systems in other Porsches thanks to manually (not digitally) adjustable vents. The rest of the controls are fairly similar and straightforward. Our test vehicles had four-zone climate control, which includes the ability for the driver to shut off every other zone to maximize efficiency. The Eco mode struggled to cool the cabin on warm days, but the system otherwise works well.

In-cabin tech

How’s the tech? The Macan EV uses Porsche's most up-to-date interface. The navigation system works great, and it's cool how you can project directions through the available head-up display. The route planner is very useful on long-distance drives, allowing you to customize your level of charge as you go. You can also integrate your smartphone wirelessly through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. From wireless charging to four USB-C ports, there are ample charging opportunities.

Storage & cargo

How’s storage and cargo? With 19.1 cubic feet available under its hatch and an additional 3 cubes in reserve in the frunk, the electric Macan has space for most of your day-to-day hauling. But when compared to rivals like Tesla's Model Y, the Genesis GV70 Electrified and the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV, the Macan comes up a little short in overall capacity.

Interior storage is plentiful, although not much of it can be concealed from prying eyes. The door pockets are big enough for most drinks, and even backseat passengers will have some space for personal items.

The Macan Electric is rated to tow 5,500 pounds when properly equipped. That's exceeds the rating for the Ford Mustang Mach-E and the Model Y.

Is it a good value? While Porsche does give the buyer a lot of flexibility in choosing personalization options, there's no getting around the Macan EV's elevated price tag. Even if the interior is a little drab, at least the Macan backs up that price tag with excellent levels of fit and finish, both inside and out.

Warranty coverage is standard for a luxury brand, with four years/50,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper coverage and eight years/100,000 miles for the battery. Porsche includes four years/50,000 miles of roadside assistance as well as a year of complimentary 30-minute charging sessions at Electrify America stations.

Range/Efficiency/Charging

How are the range and efficiency? We've driven a handful of Macan Electrics in the Edmunds EV Range Test, and the results are fairly consistent. While they don't all overperform by the same amount, each Macan Electric we've tested has exceeded its EPA estimate. The Macan 4 drove 352 miles on a charge, exceeding its 308-mile estimate. The top-level Macan Turbo Electric drove 301 miles, slightly above its 288-mile estimate. The same is true for the GTS and 4S, too. As for efficiency, we measured 29 kWh/100 miles for the Macan 4 and 33 kWh/100 miles for the Turbo on our test route, both of which were more efficient than their EPA estimates.

Quick charging speed is another Macan advantage. In our independent Edmunds EV Charging Test, we saw even greater peak charging speeds of 285 kilowatts than what Porsche states (270 kW), with the Macan 4 replenishing 100 miles of range in just over eight minutes and the Macan Turbo and GTS needing less than 10 minutes to do the same. Road-tripping a Macan EV should be pretty easy thanks to its long range and quick charging.

X factor

The Macan EV inspires confidence in its driver for everyday situations as well as fun ones. Handling is crisp and intuitive and is balanced by just the right amount of power and traction to deliver genuine exhilaration. Its compact size, supple ride quality, and excellent range and efficiency numbers are only the icing on the cake. If performance is more important than range, the Turbo model delivers the kind of numbers you expect from the Porsche badge.

Yes, it is expensive, but this isn't a new thing for Porsches. Part of that expense comes from the ability to fully customize the electric Macan, and part of it comes down to just how well-rounded this electric SUV really is.

The 2026 Porsche Macan stands out for unusually deep market discounts, with buyers paying about $3,900 below MSRP on average even before incentives.

You can save about $3,900 total on a new Macan because there are no general customer rebates right now. Discounts are fairly consistent across trims, but the Electric trim looks strongest at roughly 5.6% off MSRP, versus about 3.1% on the GTS and Turbo Electric.

A new GTS model joins the Macan Electric lineup for 2026. The GTS takes performance up a notch from the 4S with more power (up to 563 hp), a sport-tuned adaptive air suspension, a torque vectoring all-wheel-drive system and an electronic limited-slip rear differential.
