A Great Car, except ...

I bought my Grand Prix used from the original owner. It was loaded with sunroof and "heads-up" display on the windshield. I loved this car. It had 50,000 miles on it when I purchased it and it had 130K when I sold it. I never had any engine problems except that the intake manifold gasket was leaking due to a known issue caused by GM's Dexcool antifreeze. Coolant leaks are a common problem on GM models from that time period. It was going to cost me about $700 to have it repaired and the car is only valued at about $1500, so I decided to trade it in on a new vehicle. The car handles well and the 3.1 liter engine delivers plenty of horsepower.

I bought the car brand new and drove it for 4yrs and traded it with 50,000mi. Required nothing but regular maintenance. I loved the sporty look and feel of the car and was still able to cart the kids around! Only flaw was the winter handling, it wasn't the best in the snow. I traded it in for an SUV and lost that exciting feel when driving.

Most Fun To Drive Ever

This car is great. I've had it for 5 years; having to repair mainly minor problems. It is incredibly fun to drive. I did have to fix the lock in the back that would not work, the passenger side door which would not open from the outside, and the clock in which the numbers actually dissapeared.

Driving Enjoyment

This car has been a pleasure to own, other than alternator failure times three. I've heard similar stories from other Grand Prix owners. Perhaps Pontiac needs to address the electrical system. Having heads up (a/k/a eye Q) has spoiled me for any car that lacks that option. Upgrading the tires to Toyas much improved cornering and quieted the ride.

This car is a joy to own. I have 120,000 miles on mine and it still gets up and goes. The dash and controls are convieniently placed and the car has a generally sporty feel.

This car is the worst car I've ever owned and the problems are endless. After putting in over $5000 in repairs, so much still is broken. The interior is horrible from the seat having no padding to the whole front panel falling apart. Everything is rust and the muffler fell off and the rest of rotted. Fumes are in the car so the windows need to be kept opened at all times in which you'll end up having to please the window switch each year. Backseat and trunk leaks, no hot air even after having fixed 4 times. ABS light goes off and TCS messes up, low oil level light never turns off. The shifting is all messed up and everything rattles including the cheap audio system. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

I got the car from my mom with only 62,000 miles on it. In the 20 months I had it, I had to replace the drivers side door handle and lock, a/c compressor, radiator, H2O pump, drivers side window motor (which went out AGAIN a year later) and a tie rod PLUS normal maintenance (battery, tires, struts, brakes). But when the infamous intake manifold leak appeared, I realized I had spent $5000.00 ($250 a month) on this car and now it needed a repair that could be up to another $1k... I donated it and bought a new car. Other cons: the dash had a weird gooey black substance on it, the paint was faded and peeling, plastic body cladding panels falling off... it was a sad car.

I bought my car when it was 3 years old and it had 84000 miles on it and now it is at 114000 miles and it has not lost any pep what so ever. i love this car. my future plan is drop the 3800 Supercharged engine in it and put a few mods on it. hey this car got me into a national car club. i also plan on putting a high performance shifter with shift kit and new chip, msd ignotion, performance parts, exhaust, and i just added a cone air filter and the response time is alot better.

I just purchased this car from a friend. It was bought at an auction as it was stolen recovery. Little damage was done, but there are some little body imperfections that would cost about $200 to repair. I love the pick- up on it. I really wish the dual exhaust was true dual. I bought the car with 98000 miles on it and it runs beautifully. Just had the oil changed and a few belts replaced.

excellent go-power, very reliable, only problems are that the cd player stopped working at about 40000 mi, had it replaced and again stopped at about 100000 mi; and being 5'9" tall the head room is a little lacking (my 6' husband hates the lack of head room). Otherwise very good ride, great gas mileage, excellent power, and makes speeding up on curves a blast.

My car had 122k on it when I bought it and ran and looked brand new. I have the "Special Edition" package, which basically is the paint, wheels and sound system, and the stickers. The only problem I have ever had with any of my Grand Prix's has been alternators. I have put one in every GP I've owned (except this one, knock on wood). Other than that, it's a great ride. It's my sexy car!

Bought this car with 91k miles in excellent condition for only $2k. Mechanical quality is very good, however interior workmanship is very weak. All plastic parts are loose and tolerances appear to be plus or minus about an inch... definately not up to japanese standards. But good looking and cheap and seemingly reliable.

I bought the car a year and 6 months ago with 73,000. Been a good car. Runs fine, looks good and very happy. Rides wonderful and handles well. Most fun car i've ever owned and driven. However it just hit 94,000 and now i have to replace the main motor seal, Distributor plug seal, and a plentium gasket kit. I love the car until this. Now i'm not too sure on the quality of the 3.1 Still runs fine but will leak a quart or more every 3000. No warning at all. Just kinda happened. If you are looking at one have it looked over first!

I recently bought this car from my neighbors and it's my second car so far, and it's great, it needs some rust spots fixed up, but absolutely no major maintenance so far and the car has 167,000 miles on it.

When I first saw the car I fell in love with it. It had everything I wanted. A week after the purchase the transmission had to be replaced. I had many engine problems. I can't even count how many times I had it checked out. I probably spent over $6,000 in repairs in the 3 years I had it. I did have fun driving it though. I loved inside of the car. It had the leather seats, sunroof, cd player and the heads up display. The sad thing is that I had to trade it in because it needed a new engine. The oil was mixing with the antifreeze. I have not had it for 3 years but still wish I did. It made me feel young. I wish mine would have not had problems. I would love to be driving it today.

Bought this car new, now 10 years and 143,000 miles later, I am convinced this is the best car ever! So scared to purchase another car that I am so spoiled with this one. Very minimal issues, worst problem with the car was my accelerator cable snapped once on the interstate and I have to purchase plastic controls for the heat and air a couple of times a year.

My freinds like it more than I do. my little 3100 SFI puts out enough HP to get me where i want to go in style, but it doesnt quite feel like a shuttle launch. My evil plan is to drop a 3800 S/C L67 in this car. The 3200 lbs curb weight is light for this type of car (compared to a t-bird anywhoo) This is especially a great car if you love two-doors but hate feeling like you and your freinds are packed in like sardines.

My 96 Grand Prix Sedan LE was the best car I ever had. I loved it... It drove like a race car with the performance tires and had every gadget you could want. I loved that car.

I have 110,000 miles on my Pontiac GP SE Coupe. I purchased it new in '96 and the car has essnetially been trouble- free. However, it drinks more oil after about 60K. The car runs smooth and quiet, although it could use a bit more power (I have the 3.1 liter engine). I bought the car because of the style and the price. It looks a lot sportier than it really is.

My car currently has 99K on it and has been a jewel of a car. The only downfall was an intake gasket and my transmission at 98K went. However I run my car very hard and it has handled it extremely well. I'd reccommend it to anyone.

I recently got my moms old car and owned it for 4 months and 9 days and took several trips in it. I recently got into a car accident in the car and it saved my life. Because of how long the front is it prevented alot of injury. I got hit from the passenger side front and it took off the front of my car, but with the setup of the car and the seatbelt and airbags it saved my life. Great car to own. In my opinion best car to own.
