i bought this car thinking it was a gem, some of my family members had the same vehicle and it lasted a long time. i found one with a little rust and only 75k and snatched it up for 2500. 2 months afterwards it started idling really rough, eventually sputtering and stalling. mechanics said it was a mass airflow sensor. i replaced it and it ran fine for 4 days, then the same issue came back. it sounds like the idle bounces, and it has a whine in it. usually i call it a "death rattle" but i know this car has a lot of life left in it. any suggestions on what to look for as a far as repairs?

This is an amazingly reliable car. I purchased mine about 3 1/2 years ago with 150,000 on it, it now has over 195,000 and the only problems I've ever had were basic wear and tear (brakes, alternator, blower motor, etc.) While it doesn't have as much power as a Lamborghini, it still provides more than enough. Mileage is good, starts up every time, even at almost 200,000 miles. Not the easiest car to work on for the do-it-yourself person but not hard either. Headliner needed replacing when I bought it but it's a cheap problem.

I purchased this car because I wanted a good driving, good performing sedan. That's what I bought ten years ago and that's what I still have. I have driven this car countless times on long rode trips exceeding 600 miles, driven with six people in the car comfortably, and even loaded it up a few times to go to some good camp sites. It still blows out cold air from the AC, and can still pick up the speed when needed. The only problems I have had with the car have been minor electrical ones. The driver window will get stuck if rolled down all the way, headlight switch became loose once and could not operate the headlights, and the alternator has needed to be replaced twice.

I got this car with 58K miles on it & about 8 months ago, i started having problems w/ it. It started sputtering one day & stalled out, & since that day it has not been reliable. While i am driving, it will stall & sometimes it sputters too. I can throw it into neutral & start it back up with out even stopping. Sometimes it will do this the whole ride, & sometimes it will only do it once or twice. If i start it up & let it run for about 15 mins before i drive it, it won't stall at all. I've had up to date oil changes since i got it, it was in perfect condition when i got it. Since these problems, i had the spark plugs changed, had 2 mechanics look @ it and they don't see anything wrong.

It's terrible that GM is discontinuing the Oldsmobile brand. If GM would give the brand back it's distinction from Chevy, Oldsmobile would be around for another hundred years. My Cutlass Cierra S is reliable, comfortable and cheap to own. Lots of interior room for my dog, Max, too.

Bought the car for $1100.00 at 29K!!! Mint inside everything original. Power driver seat added a brand new CD Player. Needed a Rack & Pinion, oil pan, rear brakes & lines. My brother did the rack for $200.00 mechanics charge $1000.00+ parts! My brother also did the Brand new oil pan too for free. The car sat for a while before I got it. I found the original window sticker $14,995.00 and receits from 3 mo ago for belts wheel cylinders exaust and more over $2k in work+ new tires! Guess they diddnt want to finish the bigger jobs! my gain! I love the car and Im painting it soon! Has surface rust on doors and rear wells, also front wells but got brand new front fenders for $250 Love it!!!

Purchased at 99K, have over 160k now. Previous owner had factory remanufactured tranny put in at some point. Whoever did the work misadjusted the TV cable and it now shows in how the tranny shifts. Might need a new trans because of it, but it hasn't died yet. A bit of a grandma car, but it has been reliable. Alternator at ~120K easy to replace, and the rotors will slowly warp, contributing to the rattly dash. Accessories all function well no issues. Typical 24 mpg Seattle commuting, 28-30 highway.

Doors and fenders have rust problem (frequent touchup needed) and it needed a TPS (throttle position sensor), which was hard to diagnose. Mechanics thought it was fuel system problem for a long time. Otherwise, it's been a good car. Repairs so far: TPS, alternator, exhaust system, brakes. Not bad for 136,000 miles.

With the exception of a bad ground on the fuel float and common power steering cooler line rotting out (easily Bypassed), this is an excellent and reliable vehicle. I bought this car with around 80K in late 2007 and currently driving strong at around 109K miles. Only minor mechanical maintenance repairs, the body is relatively clean for NY state salty winters and the engine never skips a beat. Starts easy every time and purrs like a kitten. with the 3.3v6, I get about 25mi/gal Highway. I am very pleased with this solid trooper and would suggest it to anyone. Like another poster said, great starter car or a very reliable and safe commuting vehicle.

This car is very reliable. It has 317,000 miles on the engine and it is still going strong. The only downside is that you have to warm it up before it will drive good. The air still blows cold, and the stereo sounds better that my newer cars.

Transmission is amazingly smooth. I do not feel any shift change when accelarating from 0-60. Bought it in 2003 when it was 60000 miles. Now it is 130000. I used as spare car.

I bought this car from a private seller and it had 80K miles on it. It now has 113K and it's still running great. Had to get a new battery, and a break line busted, and I have a ball bearing issue but all in all its been a great car. I only have to fill up my tank every 2 weeks which saves me tons of money. I plan on getting a new car soon, but will keep this one because it starts in very cold weather (-30 degrees!) and is very reliable!

Had the car for 4 years now and very happy with it. well worth the money, while rotating the tires i tore a lug bolt in half. also needed to replace the serpentine belt. the motors in the tape deck are shot, but other than that haven't had any problems. always starts up. I took it in for an oil change and the mechanics wowed over how clean the car was. I found a bird's nest under the hood after leaving it sit for a semester. Love this car.

Awesome car, my dad got it for me as my first car and it's been running strong ever since. Only had 2 problems and that was one break line had to be replaced and one coil pack had to be replaced also. I've drove it from Ohio to Alabama straight through, 2 round trips, its never given me any problems whatsoever and it only cost me around $95 in gas money, 1 way. But overall its a very reliable little car, cranks up every time and runs great. The brakes feel a little soggy and it has normal wear and tear of a 17 year old car, but I couldn't have asked for a better first car.

Bought this car new in 1993 and its still running with over 136,000 miles on it. The reliability has not been spectacular, but if it is well taken care of, it will serve you well. The V6 is just awesome. People don't expect it to be a fast car, but the engine is strong and the body is light, making it surprisingly quick. It will blow the doors off most of the 4 bangers on the road today. Various trim bits have fallen off and the dashboard rattles like crazy, but the car grows on you.

I bought my Oldsmobile Cutlass with 110,000 miles on the odometer, had a few major items replaced (alternator, harmonic balancer) but for the most part has been a good car for my needs.

My Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera rar runs and looks brand new. I have 4 kids and we all fit comfortablly. It runs and performs well above its years. If I was told a car 13 years old ran as good as new I would say they were lying but for this 1993 it cant be more true. It rides smoothly and quietly. It just goes and goes with very little maintance. This car will be in my family for many years to come.

This full size front wheel drive car that seats six is perfect for my large family and driving in snow. Handling is very sluggish and sloppy, but the engine is tremendous. Great power with remarkable economy. Nothing ever goes wrong with this car. I am dying for something more fun or more interesting, but this car just keeps running so well I can't get rid of it!

Other than (1) a right front brake early wear-out at 12,000 miles and (2) an AC leak (which my son fixed after the dealer failed to find it on three tries) my 1993 Olds Cutlass Ciera SL has been a great car for 12 years and 60,000 miles...and still is. A run through the car wash makes it look like new again as there is no signs of rust out so I fully expect to put at least another 60,000 miles on it.

I got this car when it had 121,000 miles on it and the only thing that has gone wrong with it is the electrical system. Overall it's been a great car to start out in. I love the 3300 V6 engine. If anyone is looking for a first car, or if parents are looking for a first car for their kids I would highly recommend this one.

My Olds now has 240000 miles and is still running like a champ. This car is absolutely amazing and I would recommend it to anyone - great starter car. It is reliable and safe.
