So good so far
Was looking for a newer car with good gas mileage. Choose the Sentra beacuse we have had several Nisson cars, one a '92 Stanza, that have been reliable. Average mileage so far (5550 miles) has been near 35 on long trips, including with A/C going.
Sentra Buyers go for the SE-R Spec V
Purchased my molton silver Nissan SE-R Spec V on Friday 01/23/04. I love this car !!! For those of you looking for a car in this price range, you owe it to yourself to atleast test drive this car. The more I drive it, the more I like it. Puts a grin on my face every time. Fun to drive.

great car for the price
This sentra 1.8S AT is great for the price. The front view is good but the rear needs some improvement. Anyway, I am happy with it so far. This is the best car you can buy with this amount of money. (even cheaper than Hyundai Elantra) Don't understand why so many people are so overcritical to it. What you expect with this price? A BWM?
nice
Very nimble driving ability (there's a reason for all those gears.) Good pickup from a dead stop; passing ability is superb. On clean, level pavement the handling is nice and tight. On uneven pavement the can go airborne very easily. The front end is very light. I'm not looking forward to driving in the snow. There is not enough traction to keep even a modest start from making the tires squeal. The premium sound package is tight and well tuned. It is not super-audiophile quality, but it is mostly clear and has a good range. The back seat is _very_ cramped - there is hardly any leg room.
Sentra..One Solid little car
Just bought the car on 9/18/04 and got a super deal. I checked out the Civic and Corolla. What is all the hype about the Civic and Corolla? Yes, they are both great reliable cars but so is the Sentra. Why does the Sentra always get the "bum" reviews. I read that Consumer Report does not "Recommend" the Sentra because it is below average in reliability. I find that very hard to believe. Where are they getting this information? A couple of my friends have Sentra's with nearly 100,000 miles on them and they have had little or no problems with them. The build quality on my Sentra is top notch, comparable to that of a Civic if possibly not better.
so much better than my cavalier
I really like all the standard features and the modern looking interior. I find that this loooks much better than other cars in its class.
let down
I owned a 1994 Sentra, drove it 10 years, great car. Bought a new 2004 Sentra1.8s. The quality has decreased in this model compared to my old Sentra. I've had to add power steering fluid since it was new and after switching from defrost to vent the AC stays on. Dealership is replacing part for power steering problem and they say Nissan is aware of the AC problem and haven't come up with a solution yet. In the meantime I am burning extra fuel. the AC will cut off after restarting the engine. I expected a little more fuel mileage but I am happy with the power and automatic transmission.
Poor Reliability
Owned a 93 Nissan Truck , greatest I have ever owned, purchased this 2004 based on my experience with Nissan - boy have I been disappointed, multiple mechanical issues, power steering went, brake master cylinder all by 70,000 miles - now my fuel pump is going - DO NOT PURCHASE
VERY GOOD CAR FOR THE MONEY
my wife and i brought the 2004 model used we both like the car very much but the only problem is the back seat i would like to see more room in the back seat .But overall we really like thecar for the price and looks for a compact car in it class .we could not afford the honda accord not at this time but we are please
OMG!!!!
Ok here ya go expensive performance at budget price, this car rocks and revs like a true performance sedan should, light nimble and ready for anything!!!
first sentra
I've had bad experiences with cars, and so far this is a winner. I love the way it handles, except they need to make the body a little heavier(those windy days watch out) im all over the road. The audio is good for manufactured speakers.
a lot of car for your money
Great speed when merging on to the freeway. Hold power when climing 30 percent grade hills. Fits 5 people comfortly. Body style is new and dinamic.
best car in the world!!!!!!!!!!
love it alot great ride
My Nissan
Great economy car with comfort!
Spec-V Wrap-up Review
Recently turned in my Spec-V for an Altima. The Spec-V was a very fun car to drive and was a performance bargain that could not be beat for a few years. Finicky handling, but fairly high limits once you were aquainted with the car. Good strong motor, brakes, and nice steering. The only real weak links were the shifter (sometimes) and torque steer. After a while though you do become accustomed to these quirks and the car never lost its charm. The car felt solid all the time I had it. The only big complaint I had was the ease with which the paint got chipped in the front. My other big complaint was that Nissan did not see this as normal wear and tried (but failed) to charge me for it.
I Love it!!!
I really enjoy driving my Nissan. I have decided to upgrade next year to a Brand New Altima. I am very happy with the overall service of the Nissan Family.
Good car for price/features
A good car for price to features. Replaced 1994.4 Limited edition 5spd with this one. Looks like old car has better fuel economy and back seat legroom! Recommend to anyone looking for a a good commute car OR First time buyer.
Great car
i love it...its pretty fun to drive.the interior is great...the acceleration is pretty good and so is the handling...i advise you that if u want a fast 4 cylinder for under 20 g's then this is the car for you....
Excellent Car
If you like a car that hugs the road and a car that turns with no problem and is a lighter wieght car then the Nissan Sentra SE-R is a excellent car and you don't have to go by my word but go to your local Nissan Dealership and ask them if you can test drive the Nissan Sentra SE-R. If you want to E- Mail please send it to PoliceHummer@aol.com.
Great car
Well worth the money
Sometimes she likes me...
My sentra likes me...sometimes. Other times the car starts, then rumbles, then all the lights on the dash come on and it turns off. Three mechanics tell me nothing is wrong. It only does it when it feels like it and I don't seem to be able to find any correlation between the times it chooses to do that and the times it doesn't. I know two other people who own the same style and model year nissan and one who owns a 2006 Sentra 1.8s...and all of our cars do the exact same thing. Time for a recall?? Other than that and all the road noise, I love it...really, I do.
I love my sentra
I have had other makes and models of cars, I prefer the Sentra to all the other cars I have owned. I have not had any trouble with my car. It drives great and will take off with out the long wait to warm up like some cars I have owned. It did not cost an arm and a leg. It gets great gas mileage.
reliable wheels
Now 35K....not one problem.....have 2001 with 107K......replaced only an idler pulley and two belts.....toal repairs....$45.00......they are slow but you know you'll get where you are going
I was very happy with the Car
I loved the size of the Car (easy to park) could use tighter turn radius for it's size. Ride, Performance and Quietness are perfect, although using the passing gear would create a slight burnt rubber smell and not a great sounding stereo system. Overall, though, I liked the car and I'm thinking about buying one.
Needs to be more sturdy
I loved my Sentra when I first got it a couple years ago. We are military so we are constantly making long trips to see family on leave days and we got around 50 mpg. My husband had a wreck in the car last week and it totalled the Sentra but left the other vehicle hardly untouched.
Lemon
60,000 miles and transmission howls, car is hard to start, exhaust system falling apart, air conditioning vents not working properly, struts going bad, loud popping noise from motor mount area, brake rotor warped (and this is a cold climate) and car makes allot of road noise. This is the worst car I ever had and I have owned over two dozen cars. I will never buy another "MADE IN MEXICO" car in my life.
my mistake
I was happy with my 89 Nissan therefore bought a 2004. I find it very noisy in city driving. Also a very hard ride in so much as every crack, bump, etc. is felt. I am very disappointed with the mileage I get per gallon. I do not get what is listed. I average 175 miles a full tank which equals 12 gallons. I wish I had researched but didn't have the time.
NOT SURE..
I JUST PURCHASED THE 2004 SENTRA 2.5 S AND AFTER A TRIP TO FLORIDA, I FOUND THE FLAWS. 1.) THE SEATS ARE UNCOMFORTABLE AFTER A COUPLE OF HOURS; SERIOUSLY NEED LUMBAR SUPPORT. 2.) THE GAS MILEAGE IS SHAKY. 3.) THE HANDLING SHOULD BE TIGHTER AT HIGHER SPEEDS. 4.) THE STEREO SYSTEM: NEED SPEAKERS THAT CAN ACTUALLY HANDLE THE OUTPUT OF THE DECK. ALTHOUGH HEADS WERE ROCKING TO MY SOUNDS! 5.) FOG LIGHTS SHOULD BE STANDARD ON THE 2.5 S MODELS THAT HAVE THE REAR SPOILER AND SUNROOF, I MEAN, WHY STOP THERE? 6.) OH YEAH, THE TIRES NEED TO BE A TAD BIT WIDER CONSIDERING THE CAR HAS SOME KICK TO IT.
fourth Nissan
this is my fourth Nissan, as a retired older professional woman I like the reliability and little or no repairs needed on this vehicle.I would appreciate a little more room in the car, the 2004 model is definitely smaller. I love the price.
varoom
I own a 2004 SERSpecV and it is one the best cars that I have ever owned. There is one problem I have with it though and that would be that I cannot find any aftermarket parts for it. Such as I would like to put a body kit on it and cannot find one anywhere. I have checked with local car clubs and even tried online. Maybe in a few years they will have them out. Other than that the car handles, drives, and looks great. It seems like I get a compliment on it everyday no matter where I am going. Jaime 27
My Nissan Experience
This is my first time having a brand new car. I was kind of scared when I choose the car that I bought, but then when i test drive it. I was totally amaze with its performance. Now, I can't wait to upgrade more power and looks on it.
Solid Car
Great fuel mileage, and great reliability, have not had a single problem with it. The car is responsive, but on the highways an extra oof is needed.
Nissan Sentra 2004
A couple of times the car would just not start after it would sit in the garage for a week or so after a vacation. There was a constant squeaky noise which the Nissan service guys could not figure out, then later on it turned out that the crank shaft (or whatever) was loose. Had to replace belt a few times. I was very disappointed because of these problems, because they all happened within the first 33,000 miles of usage of the car.
Big bang for small wallet
I wanted to have a bigger engine compact car with loaded options and found Sentra as my choice. It had almost everything what I wanted. Don't we want to pass big truck soon as we can when it splashes all the dirty water or sludges ? I do and , boy..., my new Sntra did a great job when I press my pedal to pass ugly big truck in a second. I couldn't do that with my old car. My only complaint is some cheapy looking interior and poor ergonomic designe such as rear seat, audio control. The performance of 2.5 einge is great, less driving and road noise than other competetors.
THE NISSAN REVIEW
THE CAR IS PRETTY FAST FOR A SENNTRA IS FASTER THAT WHAT I EXPECTED. HANDILING IS ALSO ABOVE AVERAGE. NOT TO MENITION IT CAN BE JUST AS GOOD OR BETTER THAT THE HONDA SI/
Best value
This car has very good engine performance, although the mileage is not spectacular. The tilt steering is a joke; I am 6'2", and I have to push the seat all the way back to drive; not much legroom up front. Seats are comfortable, the sound system is good; the steering could use improvement at highway speeds (seems like an effort to steer straight; could be the Bridgstone tires). Excellent standard equipment for the price (ABS, 4 wheel disc brake, front and side airbags). Great all around car.
Pretty Good Car
I enjoy it allot, seriously
Dealers warranty wont be as good suppose
Sentra 04 1.8S automatic, first came with water in the tank and begin to have problem with less than 1/4 tank so dealers told to fill more than 1/2 tank until evaporated the problem gome after 2 month, then the front shock absorbers are not good with the car 1400 miles milleage on it they replace after 2 month of been order. now is running very well no other problems report.
great car
faster than other in same categorie
Great
I went from 1988 Nissan 5-speed down to earth car to 2004 automatic heaven. The Sentra has grown up. I wanted a car that was a little bigger than the one I had but was as great as the old one. Looks like Nissan knew exactly what I wanted. I can't beleive this is a Sentra. I hated giving up my old car, but I am very pleased with my choice. I love my 10 day old car.
A dream to Mod
I bought the car in on Jan 16, 2004 and traded in a 2002 SE-R Automatic. I took all my mods off the 02 and had them put on the 04 at delivery. (Stillen Cat back exhaust, Nismo CAI, Nismo Header, Nismo Cams) The mods are endless on the web. The car is now a few steps ahead of the SI or such. You really do not need to mod the car if you want to go fast but it sure is fun to do.
Spec V
This is my second Spec V and I love it. The exterior styling is better on the 02 and 03 but the performance is great. I don't really race but it certainly has plenty of get up and go either on the street or the highway.
This Car is well worth it.
The car is very good in 99% of all the areas. I had never even considered a Nissan because of past ones that I have seen or ridden in. I was looking for a Sport Compact and decided to stop into my local Nissan dealership just out of curiousity. I looked at the Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V and immediately started to like what I saw. I then proceeded to take it on a test drive, and I was completely sold. It is extremely fun to drive and has alot of potential for sport compact enthusiasts and aftermarket products.
Awesome
SO great, I highly recommend for any new drivers like m!
Never Again
I way overpaid for a 2004 in 2005, my fault for being in a hurry. Car only had 10500 on it. Have replaced the serpentine belt and both drive belts, the front brakes. The interior looked good when I bought it but the old stains the dealer tried to hide came back - like did they spill a gallon of coffee in the back seat or what? I hold my breath every time I drive it and cannot wait to get a new car.
average car with few problems
head gasket went @ 127k miles. cd stop working @ 80k miles. The back seat door handle keep falling out. The cat. convector been replace twice, first under 36k miles warranty, second times @80k miles replaced from nissan recall.Other than those problem, the car works good. It get 33 mpg on highway. The battery, head light & ac still original. The clutch was replace @ 110k miles have to tow the car to transmission shop. But i was teaching my daughter the stick shift. Overall i think still a good car.
Advice from an X-Hyundai owner
The 2004 Nissan Sentra 1.8 S is everything a small family needs. It has a extremely stylish exterior and a roomy and modern interior. For the price it is the best buy. Also, Nissan has one of the highest resale values. It far surpasses it's competitors with standard features and price. If you are looking for a foreign car at great price I suggest checking out your local Nissan Dealer and taking a Sentra 1.8S for a ride. You will be impressed!!!
Good car for the money
I purchased my Sentra brand new in Jan of 2004 and had it till December of 2007 when it was totalled. I put on 130,000 miles within that period and I am very satisfied with the car. I didn't spend any money on the car besides the usual oil changes and brakes. I only had one problem wiht the car during the period I owned it. When the car was started cold in the morning, it would start on the first try but if I was to start the car later on, it would take any where from 2-3 tries for it to start. This problem started within a year of owning the car and worsened as time passed. This was not a big deal because all I had to do was turn the key again and the card would start.
WHITESENTRA
STEARING IS NOT VERY SMOOTH. SEATS ARE NOT VERY COMFORTABLE AN ARM REST WOULD BE HELPFUL. CENTRAL CONSOLE IS VERYSMALL SO YOUR ARE UNABLE TO USE IT AS AN ARMREST. I FEEL LIKE I AM IN AN UNCOMFORTABLE BED WITH NO POSITION THAT IS COMFORTABLE. FREEWAY DRIVING IS QUIT NOISEY,NOT AS QUIET AS MY SISTERS COROLLA.
Has some issues but not too bad
Very common problems that will cost you a lot of dough...crank sensor problem, evaporation valve problems... Those are the main 2 I know. other than that I like my sentra, but don't know if i'd buy another nissan based on the massive number of Nissan owners complaining of these two problems, which I call defects.
