Engine nearly blew up

sold the vehicle back to the dealer today. Had an episode where my teenage son was driving the car and then the engine stalled, and then when it restarted there was smoke everywhere. My son was smart enough to pull the vehicle to the side and call the Fire department. We had it towed to a local dealership where it sat for three weeks while we had to go back and forth between Nissan and the dealership while everyone denied any responsibility. Nissan refused to do anything other than replace the engine. We waited and waited, and then found out that the car needed a part that was on back order and was not available in the US so begrudgingly the dealership bought it back (at a loss to us) I will never buy a Nissan again. This was the first time based on Consumer Reports and we can't recommend this car to anyone. There were other issues that I won't go into here. There are many other options.

Don’t buy!

I bought a Nissan Rogue on September 11th, 2024 and took position on the 12th. I drove it to work and within eight hours after the display screen was blank. That’s when all hell broke loose. In the beginning they tried fixing it, turns out there was no fix, the dealer and Nissan Corporation knew that. I left the vehicle and kept checking on it almost every day and they didn’t provide me with an answer because they didn’t have any. I was devastated, I was given the number for Nissan Corporation and they said they were not the one to contact. Hillside Nissan should take care of this. I tried changing the vehicle also tried getting a totally different model and they kept telling me there has to be a recall. I said from the beginning this would fall under the lemon law. They finally decided to change the vehicle but it would cost me 5000.00 because of depreciation and because there was no insensitive on the Kicks my interest rate would be 7.99%. I told the manager all that he told me didn’t make sense, I told him I was overwhelmed with grief the car is a lemon. I don’t want to go through with this car buying anymore. That’s when I said I have had enough. I took off the insurance, turn the plates in at the DMV. Now my credit is going to be ruined. Am calling Nissan finance and the credit bureaus to find answers because they at the dealership refuse to give me any credible answers after three weeks.

Brand New Car - Old Problems and Reliability Issue

Manny, 06/20/2025
2025 Nissan Rogue S 4dr SUV (1.5L 3cyl Turbo CVT)

I brought in my 2018 nissan altima to Los Angeles dealership for engine /transmission fix in March. Repair status as of June - still in shop due to parts delay I was given a loaner vehicle - 2025 Nissan Rogue. 3 month plus month driving experience of brand new 2025 Nissan Rogue with 300 miles. Pros - Very quiet ride. Great fuel economy for an SUV Cons: consistent transmission slippage. Vehicle stalls and doesn't accelerate at times after coming to a stop. The rpm revs past 4-5k at times but car doesn't move. 2-3 times a week when it happens. I'll have to pull over to side of road, put on hazard lights. turn off engine and turn on car again - praying that the engine/transmission system works. The car is a liability, even as a loaner vehicle. Was looking to upgrade to a Nissan SUV for family but this driving experience has changed my mind completely. Transmission slipping on the freeway has been a dangerous experience. Unsure when Nissan will finish car repair. Stuck with Rogue for the foreseeable future.

Best compact SUV for ride / comfort / quietness

2024 Nissan Rogue Platinum 4dr SUV AWD (1.5L 3cyl Turbo CVT)

Preferred not to lease another Nissan after leasing a 2017 and then 2020 Rogue. I initially planned to upgrade to a luxury SUV so I test drove BMW X5 /X3 / GLC / GV70 / A5 and all had some negative traits : lack of physical controls / hard seats / cheap interior / stiff ride...etc. I then decided to test drive a 2024 Rogue Platinum while I was in for service and was surprised at how comfortable and quiet it was. I recalled test driving a 2021 Rogue after the redesign and found it to be noisier than the 2024. A little known fact is that Nissan added active noise cancelling in 2022 and that explains why the road noise is so low. I actually found the BMW X5 with 21 inch summer performance tires to be only slightly quieter to my ear on a test drive.I ended up leasing a 24 Platinum for 2 years and so far am very happy with it, especially the low interest rate lease promo. I would never own one long term due to the complex variable compression 3 cylinder. Unfortunately because of all the electronic features on modern vehicles no new vehicle is immune to annoying problems and leasing is going to be the most logical solution for new car buyers as complexity drives up the cost of repairs
