Thought I would miss my Lexus

Teena, 08/12/2019
2017 Nissan Murano Platinum 4dr SUV AWD (3.5L 6cyl CVT)

Drove Lexus for 20 years. AC went out in my 2010 ES350 and dealer wanted $3k to replace. I traded it on a 2017 Murano Platinum Midnight Edition - used. I've only had the Murano a week but I must say, I haven't missed my Lexus! The ride is very good and I really like the interior. The seats are the most comfortable I've experienced. The center console did have a couple scratches and I'd read other reviews saying the material does scratch easily. The CVT transmission is new to me but the car performs smoothly and I don't miss the shifting sensation. Love the styling and safety features. I found the Navigation and Blue Tooth features very intuitive and easy to use.

Reliable, and good gas mileage for a heavy AWD SUV. The only negative is the somewhat restricted vision due to the posts and shape of the hood.

Leaky AW drivetrain

Shortly after the Murano warranty expired the drive train developed a leak. The local dealer Wallace stated Nissan would likely help fix the problem, but then charged $2600 repair with no nelp from Nissan. They did provide a loaner for a week.

Nissan has delivered with the Murano Platinum. Cooled seats are great. 27.5 MPG on recent trip. Seats are the best I've seen. Infiniti is pricing itself out of my price range---NISSAN fills the gap with no issues.

More than I expected

In 2017, when my Sentra was totaled due to excess water getting in it from hurricane Harvey, I rented a 2017 Murano. I hated having to give it back and for the next 4 years I secretly wanted to own one. I went to my local Nissan dealership a couple of weeks ago and looked through their used inventory to see if they had one and how much they went for. They had one. I had not intended to buy a car that day, but I ended up trading my 2017 Sentra in fir the 2017 Murano. It’s a huge step up in luxury. It rides so smoothly and is very roomy. The display screen is at least twice the size of what I had in the Sentra and it has many more features. My payment went up, but I know I have a car now that I will want to keep for the long haul. I look forward to getting in it and driving it.

This car has all the bells & whistles! I especially enjoy the interior design with the large sun roof & heated leather seats & the Bluetooth features for music! So far I absolutely have nothing bad to say about this SUV.

Gracie Continues

I named my Murano Gracie when I purchased her in September 2017. She is still going strong! We have driven her 1/2 across the country without an issues at all and she has 132,000 miles on her. I love the ability to pull out quickly when I need to without fear that she will let me down. The interior stills looks great as well as the outside. In 2019 I purchased Michelin tires and have nearly put 96,000 miles on them. Gracie is a dream. Sure the new cars look nice but I like no car payment and having a reliable vehicle.

Nissan does NOT stand behind their products

I'm a longtime owner of Nissan vehicles dating back 15 years when I bought a Quest, then a Rogue and now a 2017 Murano SV that I have had since 2019. This past Saturday (9/7/24), my transmission blew. The car started right up, but as soon as you put it in gear and applied gas, it did nothing. Nissan is known for installing CVT transmissions in most of their vehicles. CVT transmissions are unreliable and VERY expensive to repair. My vehicle only has 85,938 miles on it. I contacted Nissan USA and filled out a form online as well. They were good at getting back to me but that's the ONLY good thing they did. I was instructed to take my Murano to a Nissan dealership, so I had it towed from my local automotive repair shop to Rosen Nissan in Milwaukee, WI. Nissan wanted Rosen to do a diagnostic test on the vehicle, so I gave Rosen the go ahead. The next day, Nissan called me back like they said they would and asked if I had heard back from Rosen to which I replied "No". They said they would contact them and call me back the next day (9/11/24). Yesterday, on 9/11/24, Nissan's Consumer Affairs division called me to tell me that they are NOT offering the Goodwill warranty to me. They told me that I had a warranty, but it expired on December 9th, 2021. Apparently, the warranty only last 4 years?? They told me that because my vehicle is a Canadian vehicle (hold the phone...what???), that it voids the warranty and that if I had only been a few months outside of the warranty, they would have offered me covered, but it's 33 months later and there's nothing they can do. Unbeknownst to me, my vehicle was exported to the US from Canada. I purchased my vehicle from Lenz Trucks in Fond du Lac, and no one ever mentioned to me that this car originated in Canada. I had no idea this was a thing, but when that happens, the warranty gets voided, and they don't have to cover sh#t!! BEWARE of Nissan and their antics. I'm now going to be out thousands of dollars for a new transmission. The dealership quoted me at $7-8K for a transmission and another shop quoted me at $5,800. I loved my car, but I will NEVER buy another Nissan EVER again. I have several friends and family members who purchased Nissans and now they will never go back with Nissan either because of my experience with this whole mess. If there is anything you can take away from my experience, it's: 1. When purchasing a vehicle (new or used), find out it's country of origin and if that affects the warranty. 2. Stay away from CVT transmissions. There's a class action lawsuit against Nissan for their older vehicles that have CVT transmissions that have failed. Nissan continues to use these types of transmissions in their vehicles despite the lawsuit. The most recent Nissan to have a CVT transmission is the 2024 Nissan Kicks. There are other auto makers that also use this transmission so do your homework first when purchasing a vehicle.

Almost 140,000 miles and still drives great. Regular oil and transmission services is the key. Interior is still in great shape as well. Great road trip car the zero gravity seats never get old.
