Wow...what more could I ask for??
I took delivery of my '04 SE 6sp manual last week...and have logged nearly 1000 miles so far. I am truly amazed by the silky smooth power delivery from this engine. It is so torquey that around town it easily works as a four speed..meaning that I shift 1-3-5- 6...the engine is so smooth...so silky..that there is no vibration at all...in fact I have frequent looked down at the tach to notice that I need to upshift. I love how this engine feels so refined and smooth in all RPM ranges.
2004 Nissan Maxima 3.5 SE 4dr Sedan
I am experiencing problems since the first month I bought the car. It started Bose speakers, fog light. Speakers, rorets, check engine, head light keep blowing off few times and now they are saying that the wiring harness needs to be replaced which costs almost 450. Tire problems, the car stays at the dealer place more than my home. Now I am having auto gear problem. I pay another 400 to get fixed mounts. Now they are saying that the transmission is going out and needs to be replaced.

Awsome, Outstanding Mid-Class Sedan
Great Vehicle, very reliable, fast enough, good braking response, cool interior, power everything, very comfort,
A bargain G35 and better!
Almost signed for a G35 after testing everything in or above this price class. The fresh styling sold me as well as the quality build and saving $2000 below Infiniti -they would not discount...Nissan dealer agreed to reasonable non-sticker price and went looking for the exact car I wanted...the 04 Maxima is king!
MAXDOUT
My 2004 Maxima now has 60,000 miles. This Maxima had alot of issues. Build quality should have been much much better. Performance holds this car together. But I would NOT buy this car used & I love Maximas.
Elite Edition Orange Maxima SE
Great car. Wasn't afraid at all to buy a 2004 with 112,000 one-owner miles. I plan to take it to 200,000+ in the next 5 years (mostly highway driving). Worse case scenario, I may spend $1,200 on an engine/tranny/or front end work in the next 5 years. That makes for some cheap driving. Don't be afraid of miles people - you can get a hell of a deal on a late model car with some miles so I'm more than happy that I can spend money for repairs if needed. So far, the car has been beyond excellent!
Great vehicle for the $
This is my second Maxima and I've owned this model for 3 yrs. Goodyear replaced the OE tires and outside of the basic maintenance, the car has given me no problems. Would recommend this particular Nissan to anyone.
Lots of power, no good on gas
What I like most about this car is its power and performance. 260 hp, this thing flies. It has performance tires for a reason. Do not like the interior, it looks cheapish Japanese style, like a cheap electronic calculator. The leather is nice, most of the trim great, but the gauges could seriously have benefited from a different designer. Gas consumption is NOT good, you'll notice pretty fast you're paying at the pump a lot. But overall, it's a nice sporty sedan.
Best car I've owned
I paid a high price for this fully appointed '04 Maxima with 100k miles in 2010 ($10,000) and, after driving it for 7 years, I can honestly say it was money well spent because it has been the best car I've ever owned. Comfortable, powerful, dependable, attractive and low maintenance. Couldn't ask for a nicer car! Approaching 200,000 miles now and the engine and tranny are still rock solid but the suspension needs work so I've purchased a 2010 Maxima.... Nice as the 2010 is, the 2004 still gets better gas mileage and has more spunk. Amazing car!

Best car I've had!
I'm getting another one. It's been perfect for me! Only your normal wear and tear repairs with over 140,000 miles. Great power and comfort ability. Best option by far is the heated steering wheel up here in the cold northern mornings.

DONT BUY A NISSAN MAXIMA
bought the car 3 months ago from dealership with 3 month warrenty car had no problems at all took it to a nissan machanick to check it out after driving the car for 3 months or 15000 miles the car started to experience severe jerking and transmission slipping.. the engine would not go more then 19 miles and the rpms would jump to large numbers and slip tne car starts kicking and doesnt drive i have the 2004 nissan maxima 3.5se model with 5 sp automatick transmission this car has been great until this point but 80xxx miles is reediculous for this type of money this was my 5TH AND LASTTTT MAXIMA I AM EVER BYING THESE MANUFACTURES RUINED THE GUD NAME OF NISSAN AND ARE NOT DOING ANYTHING TO REPA
Timing Chain
This 04 nissan maxima 3.5 SE is a stick and is quick for a 4door sedan but unfortunately the car has been a big disappointment. The car has had a least two recalls and the rear panel always rattled. I finally got nissan to put in additional padding to get the rattling to stop. The oil has to be changed often or the engine will run very noisy. The sun roof leaks and now after 28000 miles the timing chain has to be changed which is costing me around 2k I'm done with nissan never again JAC
Worse Investment of my life!
Worse car I've ever owned. Paint is fading, chrome is chipping off the front grill, I've only owned this car for about 12 days, and already had to replace the clutch(which din't help with fading or going to the floor), water pump, radiator, hose, and head gasket. I had the car inspected 2nd day I had it and I was told it was flawless. Performance is poor, there's no such thing like fuel economy in this car, no oil leak but still have to add oil every week, replaced two rear tires already, one of the rims bent already...Do I need to say more? Worse car I've ever owned in my life. I wish I can take Nissan to court for these faulty factory defects
2004 Nissan Maxima
I am a loyal Nissan owner for over 12 yrs. 91' 240sx, 85 maxima, 2000 maxima, and now 2004 maxima 3.5 SL. I got this car fully loaded but w/ out navigation since I don't have a problem finding my way around town. This is the best overall maxima yet. Interior is roomy, plenty of trunk space, comfortable, sleek, and very modern comtemporary design overall. Bose systems is great! Acceleration is smooth w/ a quite comfortable ride. My wife loves it! Great family car and reliability is the best in it's class.
04Max - Great
Have Silver SE with Driver Preferred , VDC ,Sunroof ,mats and guards. What a great car. this is my 4th Max SE and is by far the best handling of them all. I will say that build quality is somewhat worse then my previous Maxima's. Minor Shimmy in steering , wheels ned to be balanced , small paint problem. Gas milage has been around 23.5 combined driving. My people look and like what they see. Very quiet running car.
Maximus
The Maxima had me at hello. After a test drive I had to have it. There are not that many four door sedans with power like this out on the streets these days. This car is appealing to all senses. The Driver performance package & 8 speaker Bose stereo(2 8 inch subs included) that can really get your heart pounding are well worth the extra beans. The Maxima clings to the road and excelerates with smooth powerfull force. This added to the fact that the new body style is one of the sweetest looking rides around, I would have to recomend this car to everyone. I could live in this car if I had to. Can you tell i love my Maxima!
04 Maxima worth the wait!
I have been researching this car since Nissan teased me with their mailings featuring the new body style. Like I told the salesman - he did not have to "sell" me the car. I wanted it the moment I sat in it.
A different Maxima
I previously owned a 1998 Maxima GSE, that I traded with 104,000 miles on it. The new Maxima is a different car in every way, power, performance, comfort. I can't say enough about it, I just drove it to Vegas last weekend, it performed flawlessly and what a blast to drive. The price is right.
MAXIMA FAN
THIS IS THE FOURTH MAXIMA I HAVED OWNED SINCE 2000 AND THE 04 IS BY FAR THE BEST EVER.THE SL IS SUCH A SMOOTH RIDE AND VERY ROOMY, YET POWER THAT RESPONDS LIKE A SPORTS CAR.FOR THE PRICE YOU CAN'T GO WRONG.
2004 Sl nightmares!
I purchased my 2004 SL in May of 2003 and have had problems ever since! Started with (1)swishing noise inside cabin = after 3 trips to dealer they finally replaced radiator, (2)steering wheel shaking = did many rotations, alignments, then all new brake job overhaul, (3)scrubbing noise up to 20 mph-biggest problem since Feb. 2005 = after 11 trips to 3 dif. dealers and dealing w/Nissan America (which is a joke), replaced rotors, wheel bearings, backing plate, yet the PROBLEM STILL EXISTS!, and finally (4) struts/mounts = just repaired. This was my 1st Nissan and I will never buy another. I'm cleaning it up now and plan to sell it THIS WEEKEND!
King of the midsize sedan
Simply marvelous, it handles and accelerates like a $50K car is supposed to and is comfortable at any speed. Interior design, comfort and amenities are of entry level luxury car standards. The 320watt 8 speaker Bose audio system is the best there is this side of $30K. Still, its not the greatest car ever, there are faster cars, more luxurious cars, more spacious, even better looking cars, and certainly more practical cars, but none with a better combination of all these attributes anywhere near the Maximas price range, and that's why the Max is king! Also why I traded my '03 3.2 Acura TL w/ 14800 mi.
Tried Nissan over Honda - Big Mistake
The looks of the Maxima attracted me, and most of the reviews were postive, so I made a leap of faith and purchased a Nissan for the 1st time. What a mistake. Except for its good looks, this car rides like a truck, the wheels vibrate at unacceptable levels between 50 and 60 mph and dealer won't fix (this is "normal" for this car), and has tremendous torque steering issues when accelerating from a stop. Also the gas mileage is less than expected 22 on the highway, and I average 72 mph, and you can't park this thing in a tight spot, bacause you need more turning space than a HUMMER. Anyone want to trade for an Accord? Sorry Honda, but I will be back!
You get what you pay for and sometimes more
I've owned prestigious German cars ever since I could drive. I am now 43 years old and tried something different when I got the Nissan Maxima.I love it, It has been a great car all around. For the money that I saved by not buying the German car it makes alot of sense. It has great performance and styling all of its own. I would refer anyone who wants a car.
Great Car!!!!
In forty years of driving, one of the best cars I have every diven or owned. Handling, comfort, acceleration, you name it.
$30,000 for this?
The suspension is horrible. The front shock has been replaced as has the front strut, yet you still feel every crack in the road. The radio has to be turned up the noise level is so high. The drivers side power window has been repaired twice and it still goes up very slow. My avg. gas mileage runs around 18-20 mpg. I have to reset the clock every 4-6 weeks because it runs fast. The display screen that shows the radio station and time etc. had to be removed because it was cloudy and hampered viewing the settings. The lights do not adequately light the road, they seem to be misaligned, but I am told they are not. I keep checking to see if my lights are on and I have 20/20 vision.
Best performance for the money.
I drove the acura TL-type S and it could not compete. This thing is phenominal. It drives like a sports car with the comfort of a sedan and the ourstanding reliability that is synonumus with Nissan. And much cheaper than type-S. Nothing out there competes with it.
DESIGNED JUST 4 ME
WE DROVE A G35,SAAB9.3,IS300,ACCORD,JAG AN OWN A PASSAT GLX AND THIS CAR BEATS THEM ALL.FLORIDA IS HOT,FLAT & SUNNY. OUR MAX SE LOVES THE FAST CROSS/STATE ROADS, THE ENGINE EASILY DRIFTS INTO THE 130s, WHILE THE 18"WHEELS FELL GLUED DOWN. THE TRUNK FITS OUR SCUBA GEAR AND OUR FRIENDS LOVE THE BACK SEAT. THE AC IS FROSTY EVEN IN THE MID 90s.I'M 52 AND THE JOYFUL EXPERIENCE AND VALUE IS UNBEATABLE. ITS A 30K"Z"FOR FOUR AND A LOVE, SECOND ONLY TO MY WIFE.
2004 Maxima
FUUUUN FUUUUN. Looked for a "man" car. Only one out there. This is truly a sports car with four doors.
Bad Max
This is my 3rd Maxima and this 2004 is just great. I have had both men/women stop and ask what year is the car and how do I like it. The only thing I can say is that the car is "Great". Nissan really did out do their selfs making this model and should they keep up they will have a great edge on the car market. This is my (7) new car and (3) have been Maxima's, as long as Nissan makes a great car I will purchase one.
We love it
This is a fun car with a lot of power. It definately is a head-turner. It is nice not to see tooo many on the road, so it still seems to have its aura. This is my first Nissan (Black on Black), We turned in our leased BMW 328 and this car is very comparable in my opinion on all levels.
2004 Maxima
So far I absolutely love this car. It handles like a charm and has plenty of power and room.
To the Max
After five years in a Volvo, it's a true pleasure to be back in a Maxima. Everywhere I go someone is looking at and complementing this car. I continue to be suprised at the available performance when I need to use the accelerator. After driving the SE model and the Infinity G35 sedan I selected the SL for it's quietluxurious ride and standard features. With the 320 w Bose audio system playing my favorite CD I become lost in the spacious cabin and the idea of "Road Rage" is a thing of the past. Several switches located on the dash and in the center console could be relocated to allow the operator to see them.
Lovin every mile!!
Elite package with VDC.Great car, yet I haven't fully broken her in just yet.I've got about 400 miles left.I fell in love the moment I sat in it.Design, performace, and luxury! Definately no regrets!I just love the reaction I get when I drive by.
Prepare for the looks!
1st off, kudos to Pomoco Nissan of Hampton VA. From start to finsh, they provided me with a GREAT buying experience! My SE has the Elite Package, with Burnt Orange Leather! Beautiful!! My buddy with a S430 borrowed it for a couple of hours, and said "I got, more looks in your Max then I do in my Benz"! He's not happy.LOL! I live in a resort city, and while cruising the strip, nearly every other car had a comment! And it's quick!
